I just moved a piece of fine furniture into my kitchen. When was the last time you ordered a piece of furniture and got something * MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL* than what you were expecting? That was my experience with ordering a pantry from Modern Bungalow. It took a few months to arrive, because Amish master craftsmen took the time to build an absolutely stunning piece of furniture, from carefully chosen pieces of gorgeous maple wood. If the pantry were small enough to fit on a dresser, I'd call it a jewelry box; it's that beautiful. The pantry is amply-sized. Using traditional hand-tooled and mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques, the pantry is meticulously constructed. The substantially deep shelves, which I have already loaded with giant heavy canned goods (like San Marzano tomatoes, for making my famous pasta sauce), and bottles of imported vinegars and California's finest olive oils, not to mention a cartload of baking supplies, provide ample storage for any manner of pantry goods, and the hardware used for the pantry doors is substantial enough to keep them from ever sagging. I highly recommend this company. Their customer service is superior. I try to buy "Made in America" every chance I can. I received two quarter sawn oak pieces that were visibly high quality and well made. I would rather pay more and get quality American Made furniture than something off a boat from China or Sweden that has to be assembled and falls apart in 5 years. My experience at Modern Bungalow was very different than the experiences described in some of the negative reviews. The staff greeted my wife and me warmly when we walked in and they were pleasant and helpful throughout our visit. My friend who has visited this store a couple of times every year for the past 7 or 8 years said that his experiences were the same as mine. The store is filled with high quality craftsman furniture, artwork, lamps, clocks, rugs, etc. The prices mostly seem to be comparable to other stores that sell the same quality of merchandise. This is a fantastic craftsman style furnishings store. Real, American made solid wood furniture not imported particleboard. Look at the tables with fold out leaves. Truly heirloom prices that would last generations. The owner was working when we we there and we had a great conversation about their history and experiences. We really like the stuff in this place and bought here a couple of times, but the prices are so very high compared to other similar retailers we've visited for similar items. The bigger problem is the attitude of their staff. One time we came in to buy a couple of lights and few other items (over $1500 worth of stuff as I recall) and when we got there, the staff seemed to take one look at us and figured we weren't worth their trouble and kept talking to themselves, ignoring us. In fact, it wasn't until I walked up and said "Hi. We're here to spend money if you wouldn't mind helping us?" that they could even be bothered to go through the motions of taking our order and money, although clearly still acting as if dealing with us was an inconvenience. Clearly this place either doesn't WANT to stay in business or only wants a certain type of clientele. No problem, we now take our money elsewhere. read more

I was surprised to see negative reviews of this amazing store. I recently bought some beautiful house number tiles and an oak frame from Modern Bungalow. The staff was professional and helpful and the selection is impressive. I disagree with the prices being "Very High" and that there are "other similar retailers" that have "similar items" in the Denver Metro area. This is a unique store which sells true replicas of craftsman era items rather then modern mass produced interpretations of the style. Anyone who has a bungalow should give them a visit for inspiration. The prices are a reflection of the fact that the only way to replicate Craftsman era items is to make them out of the same materials and use the same techniques that they used.. Real quality is something that cant be faked. Most of the shop it is way out of my price range, but I feel lucky to have this resource available to me right here in Denver. We have been shopping at Modern Bungalow since they opened, and have literally spent tens of thousands of dollars in the store. We are extremely selective about where we shop (local only!!), and will not compromise on the quality or value of the products we choose to purchase. We also will not support a business that does not respect and acknowledge their customers and staff, and appreciate that the customer chooses to spend their money with them. The quality of the furnishings that are featured at Modern Bungalow is unmatched in Denver. Clearly, one could save a few percent by possibly buying at Stickley, or maybe finding something that is reasonably close to what Arts & Crafts furnishings MIGHT look like, but that is not what Modern Bungalow is all about. MB is extremely selective about the authenticity and quality of anything they bring into the store, at whatever price level is available. You only have to pay for quality once, and that is the key point when shopping for good furnishings that are expected to last. I have found the staff and owners at Modern Bungalow to always be appreciative and flexible, even with custom or 'one-off' requests. I have never experienced myself or anyone else in the store ever being ignored or talked down to, and to the contrary, I find it a comforting and welcoming place to visit, even if a purchase is not being made. In fact, I was in there recently and another couple was in there, who were talking about how it was so great to go there because it was like a museum and they were looking at fine art - the staff were enthusiastic about them being there, and even encouraged them to just browse and enjoy - no pressure applied whatsoever... Just following up on a comment I made in 2012. We still love this store. Although the original owners have sold and have relocated to another state, they wisely left the business in the hands of professionals. The new owners are friendly and have taken the time to learn their new business. The store looks beautiful and fresh and they stay in contact with timely emails about products and events. We always find some treasure for our home in Maryland whenever we are in Denver whether it be pottery, tiles, prints, etc. Just love it when our friends and neighbors back home comment on our purchases, saying, "you have so many really beautiful and interesting things in your home...we never see things like this in stores around here!" I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer. They really have a beautiful, top of the line store and if you need some fine unique furnishings for your historic bungalow in the Denver area, this is the place to come to. HOWEVER . . . I could definitely do without the snotty attitude from the self-important sales girls. I spent $200+ in here the other day and they treated me like I didn't exist. To top it off, she didn't even bother to bag my items. So I had to walk out of there in a juggling act. Don't expect for anything to be decently priced in here either. Its really expensive, which I don't mind, its very high quality stuff, so you get what you pay for. But it seems like every time I go in there, its just all the same stuff I saw the last time. All and all I just would like to see a little more genuine hustle from the staff as opposed to the "you're so lucky to be in my store right now" attitude. What Modern Bungalow really needs is some healthy competition because right now, they are the best and only . . . and they know it. read more

I joined Yelp just to write this review...I'm so surprised to see the previous posts about the attitude of the staff -- my experience has been the polar opposite: nothing but great customer service. I live in CA, and found them online. I ordered a light, but it was broken when I received it. They quickly shipped me a mailing label so I didn't have to pay for the return shipping (they were having a free shipping promo, one of the reasons I used them instead of a more local dealer), and shipped out a new light. Unfortunately, this one didn't survive shipping, either (although both were very well packed -- UPS was at fault). Again, no problem at all with the return shipping and a full refund (I decided the light just wasn't sturdy enough in design). Because of this positive experience (when it really could have been a nightmare), I recently placed another order. This is not only a business with a fantastic array of craftsman furnishings, it is a small business with real integrity. They have won my business! read more

We bought a beautiful wood and leather chair that was donated by Modern Bungalow at an auction to support our kids' school. We were able to customize the leather with hundreds of colors to choose from, and the color we selected ended up looking AMAZING. The chair is so gorgeous and well-made. We will treasure it for many years. And the customer service of everyone at the store was top-notch. Even though we weren't even "real customers", we were treated so kindly. Lots of communication regarding the chair's customization and delivery. Everything was on-time and perfectly handled. The next time I need anything for my house, I am stopping here first! read more

We have loved this store ever since we found it more than a decade ago. The previous owners were super nice. Kate even gifted us with a pair of brass bunnies when our grandtwins were born. We always stopped by the place when we drove in from KS. The new owners, Matt and Danielle, are quite capable and also friendly. We are so glad the shop did not close when Kate and Ed moved out of state. There used to be a framed print hanging in the store that said "When you buy quality, you only cry once." So true. The items we have purchased there can be handed down to future generations...tables, rugs, tiles, framed prints, lamps, numerous metal figures of frogs, bears, rabbits, dogs, children (all that put a smile on your face), clocks, wall outlet plates, table covers, pottery, coasters, door mats, outside address numbers. If you love the arts and crafts movement and the Mission style, it is a dream shop. It is also a great place to buy a gift that is unique. When our neighbors moved in, we took them there. We absolutely loved this place. It's like Disneyland for anyone who loves Craftsman/Mission style decor. We just bought a new house and needed to add a few pieces. Matt couldn't have been more helpful. He helped us pick out the style, stain, leather, etc. He made what could have been an overwhelming experience so simple. Most people walk into a store like this and they like to look for a while and not have someone looking over their shoulder at all times. That includes me and my wife. Reading some of the reviews, I have a hard time believing their story, as all of their people there including the owners are very friendly and extremely helpful. They are certainly not "snotty". We have been there three times in the last month and spent an increasing amount of money every time. They are helpful and very friendly. Also, you will not find a better selection of high quality Arts and Crafts furnishings and décor anywhere. And to the person that complained about the prices, you get what you pay for..........or the sign in the store says: "When you buy quality, you only cry once." Maybe they should go shop at AFW instead, they have nice veneer stuff there that will fit your price range. All I can tell you is, the décor and quality is fantastic and all of the people working there are great, especially Kate, one of the owners. She went out of her way to make a really nice chair a Christmas surprise for my wife when we walked in there a week before Christmas. The chair had a big bow and greeting on it for my wife. Having bought a condo in Denver, I was interested in furnishing it in the Arts & Crafts period. I discovered this beautiful boutique furniture store while searching for Amish furniture, & spent many hours just looking around the store, perusing the catalogues & talking to the excellent staff. We purchased an Amish dining table, 2 leather arm chairs, and several area rugs for our oak wood floors. The quality is superb. They have an excellent delivery service. Matt was incredibly easy to work with; and when there were problems and delays with the artist who made our chairs, Matt had us choose replacement chairs with no additional cost to us. They were very accommodating in storing our items until we were back in Denver ( this is not our primary residence). I have never worked with a retailer who truly put customer service first. I will certainly return to purchase accessories such as stained glass lamps or accents like vases. read more

This store is warm, welcoming, and attractive, featuring a variety of furniture and home accent pieces. It is convenienctly located in the University Hills area with plenty of parking. Best of all is the knowledgeable and helpful staff. They made 2 trips to my house and served as go-between with the manufacturere of a chair I didn't even buy there. Talk about customer service!
