To be honest, I know how to use my computer, but I am definitely not technically adept. I was in the middle of creating a blurb book when my computer started making noises that I was sure indicated it was going to blow. After hiding behind the door for a few minutes, I snuck forward, and tried to access my pictures. Nothing worked, and this ticking/clicking noise continued. I called Urban I-T, Inc. and got Nate on the phone. He told me that the computer was not a bomb, but that my hard drive was potentially irretrievable and that I should stop using it incase of further damage. He was busy that day but came over the next and assessed the situation. My hard drive was not completely shot, but it was definitely close to death. I have had a service contract with Urban IT for over 4 years and I must say that the service has been outstanding! My accounting firm, based in Woodland Hills, has 3 network servers - data, email, and telephone - plus 14 PCs. Most of the PCs are hard-wired but a few use a wireless connection. When my email server crashed, Urban It promptly showed up to deal with this emergency. They signed me up with a web-based Exchange system and were able to restore my email services fairly quickly. Urban It then repaired the email server and are currently using it as a local backup for my data, in addition to a backup in the cloud. I am grateful for their service. Oh man. These guys are fantastic. I was referred to them by a family friend when I was going into college, initially for advice on what kind of computer to get. They helped me decide between a Mac or a PC, and helped get me a sturdy laptop that has lasted me my whole college career. Of course, I have ruined this laptop a few times, and Brian was always able to pick the laptop up and fix it for me. I have even used them to help my mom out with her computer. She isn't very tech savvy and manages to get viruses on it all the time, and Brian is always there to help her out, and even walk her through the steps. I used Google to search for a computer repair shop near Reseda. It showed several places, including Urban IT which had a Yelp listing. I brought in my dead Laptop to Urban It. One of the techs, Nate, checked it out while I was waiting. He determined that my power adapter was defective. He ordered a new part from Dell to be shipped overnight. Nate called me the next day, and told me that my Laptop is working again. I was charged just $50 for the labor plus the cost of the part. I am grateful for the quick diagnosis. I've been meaning to find a way to compliment/help these guys out since they helped me about six months ago. I had just gotten a new Mac and I needed Adobe Creative Suite installed immediately. I want to commend Brian for quickly and reasonably disinfecting my Windows 7 computer which had many popups that made my life miserable. I called Urban IT for help, and Brian was able to access my computer with some program, scanned it with 2 types of antivirus programs, and got rid of over 100 spyware and viruses. I brought an external hard drive to Urban IT to see if they can recover any of my data since it was giving me disk errors. Apparently the drive was severely damaged and unreadable so no data was recovered. However, Urban IT refused to charge me for the several hours that was spent in trying to recover the data.
