I will say the place overall feels pretty scammy. They make you pay AND tip before the service even happens, and are pretty rude and pushy about it. For example, before the service I requested she charge $95 on my card ($80 massage + $15 tip) and she told me tip needs to be $20. She didn't back down when I tried to fight it, so I let it go because I didn't want to get bad service. Then, she tried to charge $105 without telling me, and when I saw her typing that in the machine and questioned her she told me it covered the credit card transaction fee (and then decreased it to $103). I understand needing to charge beforehand so people don't just dip out after, however I would prefer tipping after the service so I can choose an appropriate amount? Wild. On top of all that, there was somebody else's hair on the massage table when I laid down and a giant spider on the wall... overall would not recommend this place even though it's cheaper than others in the area.

The masssage ended without me even tuning over - full body?! How. It did last the full hour. Also the music was a very aggressive classical and I mentioned that it was not super relaxing. Nothing was done about it - they did not even turn down the volume. I checked the reviews for any mentions of Alex and they were all positive so I was pretty excited. From start to finish Alex was fantastic. Once we were in the room she asked me to explain what areas I wanted to focus on. I explained that I had had knee surgery 7 weeks ago and that my calf and hamstring on that leg were tight and needed to be stretched out. She nodded that she understood. She started working on that leg with light pressure and then moved to the left leg. I asked her to please go back and apply more pressure on the right leg and she refused, citing that my surgery was too recent and that she would need to wait 8 weeks to apply more pressure. At the end of the session I asked her why she didn't tell me that she was not going to honor my request when we first discussed it but she just repeated what she had said before. I had booked a longer appointment just to have this issue properly addressed and it was not. I didn't get the work done that I asked for and feel that I am owed at least a partial refund. Urban escape healing is BY FAR the best holistic treatment boutique in Chicago!!! It has been 48 hours since my first visit to Urban Escape Healing and I am STILL feeling the residual effects of my session. If you want to begin your road to renewed, health, strength, and vitality I would suggest to begin here. I began searching for alternative healing and therapy techniques at a time when it wasn't as popular, So I've come across my fair share of flukes, and frauds and I was quite discouraged before I came across their company. But boy am I glad I found them!!! Urban Escape Healing is located in an up and coming neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. And although, the store itself is not very conspicuous, once you step inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The first clue that this place is different is seen in the service that you receive from Urban Escape Healing team. The owner and founder Neale, who I received my first treatment with, is incredible!! The moment you walk in, he gives you a hug, as if he was your long lost brother. In fact everyone gives you a hug. He then begins with a loving consultation, to discuss what brought you in. He addresses your concerns, discusses your situation, with love, honesty, and compassion. And he seems to possess a wisdom and clairvoyance that are far beyond his years. His insights are both practical and motivational, and he definitely seems to possess the intuitive skills to give you direction, if that is what you are seeking. Throughout the treatment Neale was kind, patient, and attentive. And although, you'll probably fall asleep, about 10mins in to a healing session, you'll be able to tell that he took the time and effort to meet your physical, emotional, and energetic needs. The other practitioners seemed nice and friendly as well and everyone seemed to have a warm glow about them. It seems like regardless of what treatment you get, the benefits will far out weigh the costs. What makes Urban Escape Healing different is their mission. Not only do they want to run a business. But their goal is to help people begin a road to living better, healthier, and happier lives. As with any other thing in life, you only get out what you put in, but the urban escape healing team will gently guide you through the journey. In my opinion, Neale and his team are well on their way to becoming the some of the best holistic health and healing practitioners in Chicago. My recommendation: Stop by and visit, you won't regret it. read more

BEWARE THIS CON MAN - Neale Baldyga is a drug dealer who claims to be an "empath" "energy healer" - my former roommate Bryan Alvarez (another "energy healer" drug dealer con man) suggested Neale Baldyga for LSD - they knew I have CPTSD and hoped to microdose lsd - something I have done previously with positive results. Neale Baldyga knowingly sold me research chemicals - NOT LSD - the bitter substance he put on altoid mints made me and a friend physically ill - I attempted to warn him what he was selling was not LSD - and whatever the substance was (n-bombe perhaps) yielded adverse side effects and was potentially dangerous. Neale Baldyga acted like giving me back 50 dollars - out of the 100 dollars I had paid was an act of generosity - it was not. He offered no apology and instead acted like ripping me off for 50 bucks was an act of charity - he made a profit from my physical pain - beware this fraudulent con man. Neale Baldgya has a large social circle - and it is clear his friends will be writing glowing endorsements for this predator. Buyer beware - anyone willing to jeopardize others well being for 50 bucks clearly gives no fucks about anyones well being other than their own. Neale Baldga fuck you for preying upon someone trying to heal - you are no "energy healer" - you are a shitty drug dealer read more

The name of this place is true to form: from the first time I walked through the tall green doors it felt like an escape from the hustle, tenseness, and lack of open kindness that can characterize a day in Chicago. The decor is tasteful and lends a feeling of privacy and refuge from the streets outside; my impression of Neale is a sincere, capable, and playful leader. He's created a space of gentle and grounded experiences that lets you relax so that you can actually receive whatever healing appeals to you. I was skeptical of Reiki and wondered if it was just people convincing themselves they had powers; but I attended a Reiki intro workshop and couldn't deny its visceral effect on my mind, body, and emotions. And importantly, Neale could sense when he was approaching my boundaries and showed me his intuitive capacity by not crossing them and directly expressing respect for them. The whole place seems to be building a stable and trustworthy atmosphere to welcome everyone in Chicago who truly wants to grow, heal, and share compassion with one another. I'd highly recommend anyone open to non-Western healing techniques to check out their event schedule on the website; or maybe just pop by for yoga and get a feel for the space and Neale. My guess is you'll want to keep wandering back that way. read more

This is a very special place that has won my heart over. The space and the community it cultivates is warm and inviting and truly nurtures healing and growth. I've been coming here since last winter and each time I visit, I feel recharged and more balanced. Neale's reiki sessions are wonderful. He seamless integrates aromatherapy, sound healing, and crystals into his work to give you an amazing, powerful experience. He puts so much care into caring for you and creating a calming, supportive environment. UEH offers great yoga classes - aromatherapy, individual adjustments, reiki/energy work. I also love coming here for Community Healing Days and for the Community Reiki Clinic. You have a chance to experience multiple healers for very little cost and meet some amazing folks! The best part of this place is seeing the ripple effect of caring for ourselves, each other, and our community. I feel so grateful to have UEH in my life :) read more

I am a big fan of alternative forms of healing, like acupuncture, but had never tried Reiki, which I had only vaguely heard about. I was referred to Kevin at Urban Escape Healing by a friend, so I went in for an hour session. I thought that Kevin was incredibly open and empathetic and was very knowledgeable about Reiki. He guided me through what was going to happen during the hour and played some really great, low tempo music. Concentrating on different parts of my body, Kevin worked to release the large amount of tension I had retained. In the days following the session, I experienced quite an emotional release - something Kevin had discussed with me in advance - and something that I believe was only possible because of both, Kevin's skill and my trust in the process. Like with anything else, I think long-term results are only possible when there is a true commitment, and I definitely plan on going to Kevin about once a month. read more

Due to a stressful physical therapy recovery process following a car accident this spring, I had to repeatedly delay my first-ever reiki session from April to October. As it turns out, the week I was finally able to come in to see Neale was rather stress-laden for many reasons, including a bike accident. Before, during, and after the session, however, Neale made clear his intentions, so I felt comfortable and welcome in a somewhat unfamiliar space. His generosity and concern for my well-being were overwhelming. It's incredible how lastingly powerful it - his taking the time to call upon good energy/spirits to help me heal - was/is, and even now, two weeks later, I still feel warm inside thinking of it. The purity and simplicity of reiki is wonderful. I hope you and/or a loved one can take part in this beautiful experience some time soon! Thanks again, Neale! read more

Urban Escape really is a gateway into a different world. You step in from busy Ashland Avenue and are instantly overcome by a sense of welcoming and belonging. The space is bright, colorful and filled with all sorts of calming aromas. My first time, I didn't know what to expect of Reiki, but Neale sat and talked with me for a while beforehand, asking me how I was doing and feeling about life. He described Reiki to me, in an open way that allowed me to ask questions and clarify. I have had Reiki performed by Neale three times, and each time I leave feeling refreshed, re-energized and excited to tackle the challenges and roadblocks that have been in my way. I really recommend stopping into this little oasis in the middle of the city. There is no better way to treat yourself by practicing some self-care. read more

As someone who has been suffering from depression and anxiety for years, I found Reiki to be the most effective healing experience I have tried. Reiki was something completely new to me, but going into my first session with an open mind allowed me to reap major benefits. I have had two meditative and eye opening sessions with Neale and could not be more pleased. I was able to learn things about myself and to let go of anxieties that no medication could ever do for me. You will leave feeling rejuvenated, inspired, physically refreshed as if you had been doing yoga! :] Neale creates a comfortable, relaxing, and trusting environment. All I can say is WOW!!!! I love this place. I was there before the front walls were up! My first experience was at the monthly healing day where different types of healing modalities come in for you to take a taste. That was when I experienced reiki for the first time. A while after, I was attuned in reiki I and II with Neale. Great dude, unbelievably inspiring. My self healing journey ignited. I also learned about essential oils there which I use often and occasionally add to reiki sessions along with crystals. All in all every experience I had when living in Chicago was amazing and I came out feeling better than when I went in. I recommend this place to almost anyone interested in learning techniques to care for yourself and others. read more

I hope you all have as amazing an experience as I have. If I had the money I'd be there weekly. Thank you, Josh, for everything. I can't tell you enough how much the few sessions I've had have helped me this summer. -m

Integrated Bodywork with John-Michael

John-Michael has been my go-to therapist for over 8 years. Each session opens with a query about…read moreany specific needs, however, John-Michael has the intuitive gift to 'read' my body and know what is needed. I have followed him through a variety of locations as his practice has grown, but every facility has always had a very peaceful and serene design. I can feel the stress beginning to drain as soon as I am in the environment. Shame on me, but I don't indulge as often as I should (and for me with a bad back, massage should really be viewed as therapy and treatment as opposed to a luxury or indulgence). The various packages and incentives that are offered (and do change from time to time) really do make sense and are worth investigating. I have to drive to the office, so parking can sometimes be a bit dicey and I have not been that lucky about snagging same-day appointments. Also, after the initial assessment, John-Michael does tend to be silent, however for me, that is a plus, as it frees me from the burden of making small talk and lefts me drift away and enjoy. If you are in need of a theraputic or simply a relaxing massage, I recommend a visit to John-Michael.

I wanted to do a review for John-Michael ages ago. But I had not been to him in years. You see,…read morewhen I first met JMK, we were working at a certain coffee shop of international fame together. He was my first. First professional massage ever. This was in the early 90's. And I was hooked. I don't know why massage is considered a luxury in this county, cause it makes me feel a hell of a lot better than a trip to the doctor. And I tend to feel that massage is a lot more helpful for minor aches and pains than anything a doctor does. Anyway, he was amazing 20 years ago. We feel out of touch. Years slide by....and then, FB brought us back together again! And you know what? He's only gotten better. And I still fall asleep on his table. He had trouble waking me up. So yeah, your mileage may vary, but for me, he is pretty much The Man. I just need to find myself some insurance that covers massages. I feel like Saturday morning massages, followed by brunch somewhere in Andersonville needs to start being a thing for me.

I recently returned for a 90 minute massage with Tony after 1 year since my last (and first…read moremassage). My first experience with Tony was awesome and unlike any other massage experience I've had! This visit exceeded my last one! The massage area is really cool and eclectic with every square inch covered with messages, chimes, lights, sounds that call in good energy into the space. It would be hard to imagine not feeling immediately calm in the space. We sat down to chat briefly before my service and I was invited to pull a tarot card and read about its meaning before we began. It resonated with my current situation. My actual massage experience was multi-faceted and multi-modal. Tony guided some parts with a guided meditation, and at some points assisted breath work for deeper releases. I honestly don't want to spill the beans with all of the special treats that come along in this massage experience so that other therapists aren't tempted to co-opt the approach! I think the benefit of Tony operating out of his own facility is that he can control how and what he offers in his service offerings without having to follow a cookie cutter approach for exactly the same thing for every customer! Definitely recommend trying his services and I will return!
