Recently moved to the area and spent 6 months trying to find a proper barber to replace my master barber @work of art... this is it! Urban Cuts was a distinct and pleasant surprise. Plenty of chairs, good Latin music creating a welcoming environment. I chose MariaE because she was on Boosky. Easy to book an adornment. And I'm glad I did. She took her time, made suggestions and proceeded to give me the best cut in a long time. Highly recommend! Only downside is the parking. Still not sure where to park. read more

My experience here was simply horrible. If you're reading this and need a hair cut bad, consider going one more day or just keep looking for a barber! I was referred by a friend to make an appointment with a barber named Johnathan (when you walk-in first chair on your left by the door/front wall). If you schedule something here there's a 50% you still won't even get a haircut So, I set up a 5 PM appointment, re-confirmed the appointment via text 45 mins before, and even showed up 15 minutes early. This barber approaches me by saying "Uhh I can't ummm cut your hair I have something do at 5 PM but but that guy over there is good he can cut you". He thought was he was doing was gonna fly..with no problem. It was more barbers in there than guest by the way. Mind you, this guy never introduced himself, we wasted my timed because if he didn't want to cut my hair he could have texted me the same way I texted him, and they barber he was tryna hand me off too had a bad haircut himself (an was probably a new barber). All to say, they probably didn't even care for real. So I left that place with no cut and angry. So, you give them your money if you want to. read more

Noland used to hook my lil man up & was very accommodating with my last minute appointment requests. Unfortunately, he became way too comfortable with his jokes, flirting with me, always smelling like smoke, and unprofessionalism by making a three year old wait unreasonable amounts of time AFTER an appointment, cancelling on a toddler last minute, & most disturbingly overcharging me. Not until he stood my three year old up to allegedly get a car and another barber cut my son's hair did I realize that I was getting charged nearly double the price. When he found out that I let another barber cut my son's hair he left unsavory comments under a picture of my THREE YEAR OLD that I had posted on social media. A call/text months later to try to make amends ended unfavorably when he failed to take accountability, apologize, or even respect my decision to see another barber. Instead he defended his actions of standing my toddler son up to get a car with "you're senseless, I need a car to get to work." Lol, like...he literally did not and does not understand that communicating with your toddler client's mom that you won't be able to make the appointment that HE set is all that needed to be done instead of having a restless three year old wait for him and not know that he's not coming until over half an hour past the appointment time. By the way the only reason we knew was because I had to reach out to him. There are plenty of talented barbers in the area, so choose wisely. I wouldn't recommend Noland at all. read more

Haircut itself is easily a 5/5, but the same barber forgot about my appointment on two separate occasions resulting in a 1hr30 wait on one of the occasions and a 1 hour wait on the other. Their haircuts are honestly amazing but no one acknowledges you when you walk in (I bet walk ins take forever to get to) and what's the point of booking an appointment if they're just going to forget about it anyway? To everyone that complained about this place... f**k you lazy people, this place is and always has been amazing. Been coming for over 4 years off and on, always get the best cut. Twin and Alvin used to hook me up, Ayo took care of me a few times.. now Twin is gone but Alvin is still here, friendly as ever, communicative, and has excellent skills. The key is to walk in and when they don't look you in the eye like I see alotta complaining about, you walk up to a barber and then they'll talk to you or direct you who to speak with. So I heard about this place by word of mouth, I really needed a beard shape up / trim and was told they were awesome. I saw there was no appointment needed So i ended up checking it out, I got there a little late, around 6:25 so I figured Id be waiting a little or they would send me away if they couldn't take me in. I walked up, there was one employee performing a hair cut with 4 customers waiting. I sit down, never get acknowledged, about 10 minutes later, one person gets up and leaves (maybe waiting so long?) another 5 - 10 minutes later, another employee shows up takes one client and performs a haircut. He gets finished, cleans up for about 10 minutes and leaves only saying bye to the other employee with people still waiting - its about 7:25 now... again, still no one has ever acknowledged me. at this point there was a total of about an hour later only 2 clients actually got hair cuts 1 employee left, and there was still 1 person ahead of me, the last employee stepped away for a minute or 2 and I just got aggravated and walked out. Not sure what was going on, just seemed very unprofessional and slow, this was just my experience, they could be great, but after this went down, I'm not sure if I'll attempt it again. read more

Completely unprofessional. I called to setup an appointment after reading some good reviews on yelp. The guy who answered the phone kept saying there was nothing available after I suggested 3 different days. He offered no alternative times I could come in and then just said "is that it?". I then proceeded to ask how much a cut was and his response was "I don't know". He then says "que puto" (what a dumbass) like I don't understand spanish, and hangs up on me. I waited a good 30-40 mins to not even get a haircut ! there was free people and didn't want to cut hair and they asked do I have an appointment! It says it no where on the door or online. Then the only guy willing to cut my hair has 2 customers while the other 4 people in there have none and not wanting to cut my hair. And while one of them is drinking beer and on his phone. i saw the haircuts coming out of that place and pretty basic as well. For them to overprice and have people wait is sad. Never again ! The exact same experience as Damon B. Except, instead of 40 minutes, it was well over an hour and a half. No acknowledgement whatsoever. I am from Jersey (the Bricks) and I have never had an experience where a barber won't even acknowledge you. The only reason i didnt give them 5 stars was the lack of communication, for this place you have to make an appointment to get seen Waits can be up to 2 hours. But the quality of the hair cut was fantastic couldnt have asked for a sharper haircut. As a take away just try to call ahead of time so you don't fall into the same walk-in 2hr wait that i was in. We've been to just about every barber shop within a 5 mile radius and hopped and skipped from barber to barber until we settled on Urban Cuts. I'm definitely particular when I comes to precision and quality of work and Noland is by far one of the best in the area. My husband and 2 boys always look great! He is able to perfect whatever design or idea my boys have and most importantly he is consistent. Pricing is reasonable and in line with other shops in the area. Very dissatisfied with their service mainly cause I had to wait 6 hours for a haircut! During the 5 hour mark I'm next in line and right as I'm supposed to hop in the chair a random guy walks up and takes my seat, the barber by the name of Ayo says to me "oh I forgot this guy" and told me to go to another barber. I'm furious at this point and explained to him I've been waiting for 5 hours and is not fair a random person is able to skip me. I ended up waiting an extra hour for the barber to cut this guys hair and ended up leaving the barbershop at night!! This was terrible customer service from the barber by the name of Ayo and I would not recommend anybody to go to him or this barbershop. read more

At first I thought this was some kind of racial thing, but after reading other reviews it turns out they ignore everybody. Equal opportunity shitheads I guess. Waited 20 minutes. Walked out. Went in to get a shape up to this barber named Twin, he told me i was next after, so I waited for about half an hour but later he ended up telling me that he had an appointment and didn't have time for me and blahblah. Lack of communication. Basically I had to get another barber so I went with this guy named Guerillmo or something but he pushed my hairline back !! and on the side burns. I have been going to the same barber since the 7th grade. But, I had grown tired of the lack of creativity and forward thinking my barber was lacking. On my first journey to Urban Cuts, I was immediately impressed. I received a haircut from Noland and got the best haircut and beard trim I have had in decades. He took his time and made sure I walked out amazed with his skill and I was. I also observed the quality cuts the other customers were receiving and I can see why the seats are filled. Urban cuts is my personal favorite when it comes to barbershops in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. It is located in old town Gaithersburg a short walking distance from the Gaithersburg Marc Train station. "Da shop" as I affectionately call it, sits towering above the rest. Twin assembled in a few years a very artist, talented and dedicated group of barber that can deliver on the most detailed requests. Urban cuts has a relaxing home feel. It skillfully brings together a very diverse crowd blinding culture and art. I particularly enjoy the Latino and African American collaborative effort splendid integration (very rare). Ayo is my barber there. Ayo which in Yoruba mean joie is a true joie to work with. He is know for his patience and attention to details. You can hear him often ask his very numerous repeat customers "same thing"? Confirming how confidently he remembers their style preferences. He is a family man, Master Barber AND studying for a degree in Nursing. No need to say I highly recommend him. Twin (from the work I has seen him perform) is an Artist as well as Alvin and Blady who delivers very impressive work. As with all great goods or services, there will always be a high demand for these haircuts champions. To make my point: You can not go to chipotle at lunch time on a weekend and NOT expect a huge line. My advice for the frustrated reviewer is to try the shop on week days vs week ends and especially holidays. Those busy time can be very frustrating. Urban cuts features a very nice salt water fish tank and half dozen or so big screen TVs, so it not a terrible place to wait for a great haircut. The shop actually has a lot and character. There is a nice but small play area for young children which contributes to the relaxing home feel.
