My good girlfriend and I came here for what we thought was going to be a quick hour lunch and yeah okay - that was short lived. We wound up eating up at least 3 hours in this restaurant. The staff was great - bar staff included, even teased us (nicely) when we tried raw oysters for the first time and after, requested them to steam them with their special spicy sauce. For our meals we both ordered the urban duo, so we could choose between crab legs or lobster tails. Then below that we could choose corn sauce or spaghetti , and below that you had to choose from the options of crawfish , shrimp , muscles , oysters . after choosing the seasoning and the heat level , my wife asked if she could do double shrimp oppose to e other selections because she is not a fan of crawfish or the oysters and muscles . the waiter came back to the table after placing the order and shared that double shrimp is not an option , he would have to charge us for an entire bag again just for shrimp , he didn't want to do that . Confused , nothing on the menu suggested you could not get two of the same options . the waiter brings out our bags , and to our surprise , no crackers or pickers . I asked , why they don't have the crab tools , found that odd . You serve food that requires you to crack it open , what if I had Dentures and was unable to use my teeth , or what if I have a lack of Strength in my wrist to tare into the hard shell. I wasn't Pleased at all , that's like saying I serve beverages but have no cups . the seasoning I chose Was Cajun and hot , it wasn't hot at all and it was extremely salty , so between the saltiness and the inability to crack open some of the crab legs with my bare hands , I was Turned off and just took the rest of mine to go . I got lobster, crab legs, shrimp, lemon pepper wings, and the appetizer trio with fried shrimp, fried oysters and calamari. The seafood boil in the bag was ok. The crab legs were the best. The cajun sauce is not that flavorful and i feel like old bay was missing. The lobster was tough, maybe overcooked. The shrimp were decent. Wings were good and the fried shrimp were great! The fried oysters were a little weirdly breaded and just ok. Overall i would go back for the crab legs and try a a different sauce as well as the fried shrimp. In comparison to crab boss around the corner, I would rather go to crab boss for the crab legs, shrimp and better sauce. Will visit again. read more

When I saw the coming soon sign and the mention of seafood, I knew this would be a spot I have to try! I finally had the chance to order today and absolutely loved my food. I got the snow crab legs, corn, and potatoes in garlic butter. The crab legs are large sized and the seasoning was perfect, not overpowering at all, just delicious. Eventhough I got my food to go, the interior decoration and cleanliness of the dinning area was beyond great. Plenty of space for adequate distancing and comfortable seating. For years, I have tried the overpriced Crab Boss in Brandywine and can say hands down the Urban Crab Shack wins in taste, quality of food, quality of service, and most importantly price. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Came from Ohio and decided to stop in and try this place since Maryland is known for Seafood. BIG MISTAKE. I should have known there was going to be an issue when the restaurant was empty. From beginning to end the experience was bad. Ordered a peach Hennessy drink that was made incorrectly twice!! Ordered crab cakes that came out burnt and not done. Inside of the crab cake was mushy and not done. Sent those back. Placed my order for two different crab boil bags. They mixed up our seasonings and spice level on both bags. Told them about the mistake kindly and gave them a chance to fix it. The waiter comes out and tells me the cooks told him that we are lying about the mistake. I ask for a manager, who just happened to be watching the entire incident, and never came to check on it. So i told the waiter I would like to pay for my drinks, my two appetizers and leave. The waiter goes in the back and comes back with my SAME CRAB BOIL BAG (opened and not even tied) and tells me that he watched it get made. So not only did he not get the manager but also tried to force me to eat the food after messing up multiple times. I finally had to walk out after the manager said that we could leave without paying. If you like Seafood and crab boils, this is definitely not the place to go. I dont see them being open longer than 6 months.! read more

I have visited this establishment on several occasions and it is my family's go-to spot for a great seafood meal. However, on December 31st, we called to find out the hours for dining in because we would be traveling about 45 minutes to get there. We were told that dine-in was available and they closed at 10pm. After arriving, the "hostess" says that they were only doing delivery and pickups!! I explained to her that we called before arriving and asked to speak with the manager. After waiting a few minutes for the manager, her CO-WORKER came out and said that we had 15 minutes before the kitchen closed but they were only doing fried foods (no seafood boils). We asked AGAIN for the manager and THEN they said the manager stepped out!!! First of all, who is running this place, and who's doing the hiring? The staff is rude, disrespectful, inattentive, unbothered, and unconcerned about the customers visiting this establishment. Secondly, when is it ok to not have a manager on-site of a food service organization. This is unacceptable especially when there were people in the restaurant, DINING IN!!! read more

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews but while I live in close proximity to this place and there are so many other options down the road this by far is my all time favorite. I don't like crowds so the quiet ambiance is a plus for me, the bartender is always very cordial and my drinks hit the spot. The crab legs are bigger here than any other place in the area and the SAUCE! (Especially the lemon butter) is amazing! read more

I recently visited this new "seafood boil" style restaurant and it was soo good! We ordered the crawfish Mac & cheese which was very good. It is a creamy style mac not a baked style (I am saying this so you will know what to expect). This recipe would be divine with some bread crumbs or something ontop *hint hint*. Also we ordered garlic butter oysters which were a nice size, flavorful, and very tasty. Now the seafood boil bags are done differently then what I was used too. Normally there are more "combo" options which contain crab legs but here the only combo option which had crab legs was 49$. My friend and I decided to split and I am glad we did because it was ALOT of food. Like we had some to take home. It appears this location only serves the options by the lb. I have been to seafood boil restaurants which give you an option of 1/2 lb. Nevertheless we ordered snow crab leg, mussels, shrimp boil and OMG it was very good. Not salty like many other restaurants I have visited but flavorful. All of the seafood was fresh and not over cooked. The corn wasn't pruned and old (like some other places I have been). We both really enjoyed this place and we will return. Also I see many negative reviews about the waitress service or lack of.... I will say this is clearly a NEW establishment and they may not have a lot of employees at the current moment. So practice patience you won't be disappointed read more

I found this place on accident! What a happy accident! It's quite chilly in the inside but once the food comes you forget that your hands and feet are freezing!! Lol Dakarai was my server and did an AWESOME job! His recommendations and honest feedback were great! I got the snow crab legs, shrimp and mussels that came with corn and potato's, with Cajun seasoning. I added a order of sausage as well. They give you PLENTY of food; I ended up leaving with a half of bag!! The only negative is that the crab legs were extremely small. I'm definitely going back!!!! read more

I give 2 stars for the waitress. She was pleasant and provided good service. We used to live in this area and stopped through for lunch on our way from running an errand. It had outdoor seating and how can you mess up seafood? I'll tell you how. The calamari was terrible. Large rings with some sort of rubber band feeling wrapper around the meat, under the casing that was inedible. We ate one and wasted the rest. Crawfish Mac and cheese was tasteless. I used the sauce from the seafood bag to give it flavor. 2 in our party did enjoy the bagged seafood, but it doesn't compare to other Cajun seafood places. It was okay. They had no vegetables. The fried shrimp were okay, but not crispy, and they were not deveined. The calamari was rubbery, and these fried oysters were the worst thing I have had in my entire life. I've been to Urban Crab Shack many times. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is shoddy at best whether you dine in or carry out. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, the menu is a bit confusing when it comes to ordering. The restaurant is clean, and the bar is stocked nicely. Urban Crab Shack probably loses a lot of business due to error-prone order processing and poor customer service. For the money, the food is a nice value. read more

As someone previously commented, just go to Safeway for your steamed crab legs, you will be better off. The "boil bag" was greasy, messy and salty. Crab legs were a complete miss. Lacked flavor. Sausage was tough and crab soup was terrible. Employee (who I suspect was either the owner or manager) walks up, does something in the computer, ignores us and walks to a table who was already being served. Waiting an additional 5 mins (giving them a try) and left once we realized we weren't going to get acknowledged. We tend to spend about $80 to $100 on seafood dinners so that's there loss. The Food is hot and fresh, I love how they greet you at the door, they also have a sink in the waiting area to sanitize your hands while you wait to be served so you don't have to go in the restroom and touch the handle. The reason I'm posting this review is because I didn't get a response from my letter to the owner. I said I would give him/her an opportunity to respond before posting a review. I'll just post the letter. Okay, here goes... I am a semi-frequent customer of this establishment, mainly because the food is good. The overall service staff leaves a lot to be desired. This is not the first time I have experienced really poor customer service from the Urban Crab Shack. I placed an online order this evening 3/24. The estimated time for pick-up was 20 minutes. When I walked in, a gentleman politely asked me if "I was picking up or ordering." I told him I was picking up and gave him my name and my order number. He checked the computer and didn't see my order. He walked to the kitchen to check. He then came back and asked me my name again. I gave him my name and he walked to the kitchen again. He came back to say "our computers must have been down when you placed your order and it was lost." He proceeded to say, "I can take your order now." Okay, I'm not happy, but okay. I showed him my email receipt from the original order. He looked at it and said "okay, I'll place your order." I asked him if he got everything in my order and shouldn't he jot it down? He says, "no, I have everything." When he walked back to the kitchen, I got a slip of paper from my purse and wrote my order down and walked it back to the kitchen to give it to him. He briefly glanced at my note and says, "oh no ma'am, I have everything." I said, OK, but if I get all the way home and everything isn't in here, I'm not going to be happy. When I arrived home and opened the boil...low and behold...NO SAUSAGE! This is the second time I've ordered online and didn't get the sausage when I got home. In addition, when I realized my order wasn't correct, I tried calling the restaurant to no avail. The call goes directly into voicemail, hence the reason I'm writing this letter! You can't leave a message because the mailbox is full! WHAT? Again, while the food is good and I will probably visit USC again, it will be with much reluctance and maybe won't be my first choice. I think a lesson in customer care and service is needed. Your waiters are not very well trained. My sisters and I dined in for lunch on Sat. Mar. 18th. Our waiter was not very well trained...this was not my first experience with this particular waiter. He is an extremely nice young man, but clearly not cutout (at this time) to be an effective waiter. I'm sure with the proper training, he could be awesome. I still gave him an extremely generous tip because he is a young man and working and doing something positive. I didn't say anything negative to him about the service because I didn't want to discourage him or make him feel bad. Everyone is not as nice as I am and I wouldn't want him to have an unpleasant experience. I'm sure he is doing his best. You, as the owner of this establishment should offer your staff proper training. I am quite sure I am not the only customer who has experienced the less than favorable service. You have a really nice place. I'm sure you want your business to flourish. I can imagine how fabulous it would be, with every table full of customers and those waiting to get in. Please fix the areas that need to be fixed. I suggest you get your staff the training they so desperately need. read more

The food is okay. It would have been nice, if the young girl who took my order and bagged it up place some eating utensils in the bag. If you like to eat fried food everyday, this is the spot for you. The catfish was loosing its batter as I tried to eat. Hate that I got waffle-style sweet potato fries. I was happy to see very few diners , excellent social distancing and hand sanitizer offered: I ordered the fried sampler which included shrimp, calamari and oysters. All were seasoned well and tasted very good. I also ordered hush puppies and a sausage link. The hush puppies were the sweet kind and was made with corn kernels inside; so delicious! Since this place is right around the corner from my house and I was told by a friend that it was pretty good but pricey, so I decided to get it for my friend. Paid $80+ for a combo that came with a lb of snow crab legs, lb mussels, 3 sausage, 3 corn, 3 eggs and got an additional lb of snow crab legs for her to take back home (garlic butter with urban special on the side) First con: the snow crab legs were ridiculously small Next: about 2hrs after eating my friend stomach started to hurt and she was having loose bowels. Not too long after that she threw up! ***Will not step foot back in this place nor recommend it to anyone. Ordered the shrimp calamari and scallop basket as well as an oyster basket. I was really surprised at how delicately seasoned the oysters were. This is not an exaggeration. The oysters are the best I've had in this area. Surely they had to be frozen right? I don't think so. They were also just a touch salty, but didnt detract from the taste. I was really impressed.
