Absolutely beautiful restaurant with fantastic service! We came for breakfast and ordered the…read moreFrench breakfast and the Croque Madam. We also ordered a plain croissant and a chocolate croissant. The croissants were so fresh, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The croque Madam was delicious, served on thick pieces of sourdough. Our best breakfast In Glasgow!

So much so we were kindly given a pissaladière with caramelised onions and reblochon cheese as well as some olives to munch on while we contemplated our choices After making light work of the flatbread and with some help from the staff, we finally decided on the calamari, chicken liver parfait and charcuterie board to start. Even though I am not the biggest fan of seafood, I couldn't stop digging into (and reluctantly shared) the crispy squid with garlic, lemon and tartare sauce. The parfait with toasted brioche and apple chutney was equally delicious and was quickly polished off by us all. The chutney was warmly spiced and made the perfect counter point to the pâté. For the main I chose (again, with help from the waiter) chargrilled chicken with a mushroom, creme fraiche and thyme soon and potato gratin. I hate to say I left a a little on my plate. However this is because I work in an office where there is an allocated shelf for biscuits and cake only and I have no willpower. It could also be because I didn't stick to my own plate, sorry girls! The fillet steak was perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth. I'll vouch for that as I had a 'couple' of bites. The bearnaise sauce was perfectly creamy, but if we are honest the fillet was so good on its own so we didn't use much! My friend had the haddock wrapped in bacon with pea purée which she said tasted very fresh and firm. Again, I'll agree with that after having a forkful. The dessert menu was presented with immediate reactions of rubbing our stomachs and shaking our heads declaring we were too full, knowing full well we would cave and at least share one. The lemon tart was amazing - extremely citrusy with a slight crispy topping. Tarte au Citron is clearly a French classic and Côte paired it with Normandy Cream and fresh raspberries to make it absolutely perfect. My friends will definitely be making another trip here. Working on George Square means they can take full advantage of the lunch and pre-theatre menu which seems like a steal at £9.95 for two course and £11.90 for three. Côte also have a breakfast club that comes with a super cute croissant keychain that gets you a free hot drink with any breakfast on a weekday. Croque Madame anyone?

You'd think that countless raving reviews, well - more comments - from friends and friends of friends would not make my body do such things. Yet, there I was. Thankfully, after adjusting to being out in a restaurant - that I had NOT been in before - situated in the glittering, glamorous West End and with the boy, I had a grand time. The food attempts to be 'authentically Scottish'; pardon the British category above, but Scottish is not an option on the list. This is most likely due to Scottish food seeming to consist of fish suppers and the like. Anyhow, there is a good range of 'Scottish' food here, as well as steaks, chicken dishes and the usual pasta/pizza/burger stuff you can expect to get anywhere now-a-days. The prices could be a little much but if you make the most of their lunch or pre-theatre deals you'll be laughing as much as your bursting belly can. Additionally, try the cocktails they are to die for. Although, sadly they are not included in the lunch/pre-theatre deals...

It's the perfect place to take your parents if you're tired of getting the same ole Italian. Scottish menu, beautiful set up, excellent service, and absolutely delicious. It's classy without the attitude, and it's perfect. I stuffed myself absolutely full, though I didn't realise it at the time. I didn't look like a lot of food when I saw it, but it adds up course by delicious course. To top it off, I ordered a cheese plate for my dessert, and, full of local cheeses, it was absolutely splendid. Everything about this restaurant is very well thought out. I was wholly impressed by the entire visit. The only wee part about it was having to take the lift to get to the toilets. But other than that, I can't find any fault with it at all.

My experience of French cuisine is nil, so it was good to be rid of those preconceptions. It was an absolute scorcher of a day, but the restaurant was nice and cool. I met my fellow Yelpers and we were seated at a table for our evening meal. We all shared the Escargots which was rather finicky, even with the proper utensils. They were quite stubborn little morsels that lay lodged within their shells. Interesting texture and comparable to a dry mushroom. I'm not sure if I would order them again, but it wasn't bad! I had the scallop and black pudding starter. I am a big fan of this combo. I love scallops unless they are overcooked. This was cooked just as I like it. Then I had the Beef Bourguignon main. This was a casserole with the most tender pieces of meat. I could really taste the lovely red wine! Mmmm. I ended the dinner with a Creme Brûlée dessert that was flamed as it was brought over to the table! Very suave! It was lovely dessert that looked amazing lit. What a wonderful place. Sticky asian glaze (descriptive or what?!) on sharply dressed veggie slaw with gloriously purple potatoes (think of the shade you'd get if you accidentally washed an argos alien with a pair of black jeans). It was beautifully presented and just the perfect amount...although if I'm perfectly honest I wanted it twice over just to keep eating it! All we indulged in drinks wise was coke/diet coke given that he was working and I was nursing a very teensy hangover. Do yourselves a favour and finish with the creme brulee...absolutely wonderful. One of the best incarnations of that particular deliciousness I've come across in ages! We were there for lunch and on walking in I immediately felt a bit under dressed when I saw the decor but I needn't have bothered, the atmosphere was very welcoming and laid back. The staff were lovely and clearly take pride in the place, which is reassuring and a welcome change of pace to be honest, so many staff in places make it obvious that they're in the ''it's just a job'' mindset which isn't so relaxing when they're in charge of what's happening to your food! The service was v. attentive and actually the closest thing to perfect I've encountered thus far. Fussy pal was happy, I was happy and the food was DIVINE. What more do you need?

I had chicken, which was cooked nicely and came with just-right portions of mash, spinach and tomatoes. My boyfriend had salmon, which wasn't the best ever tasted, but still decent. Most of the problems we had, had to do with the service. We had reservations for 8:00, and we arrived on-time. However, though the website advertised free parking for patrons, it was unclear where this parking was. When I went in to ask, the man at the check-in station first told me, in a very rude tone, that there WAS no free parking for hotel guests. When I told him I wasn't a hotel guest, but had reservations at the restaurant, and that the website explicitly said, in a giant, red banner that there was free parking, he said oh, it's at the Concert Square car park and if you bring in your ticket, they'll validate it. Free parking might not be a big deal to some, but we're on a tight budget and needed to economize where we could to enjoy a fancier night out than we usually get to have, without going broke. I stepped outside to call my boyfriend, who had dropped me off to ask while he looked for parking, then came back in. I told the man that I'd like to go ahead and get our table, and he stuck his hand in my face and said "I'll be right with you," then walked off. When he came back, he said they were just clearing our table and it would be ready in just a moment. Half an hour later, after watching 3 other sets of couples be seated, my boyfriend went to ask about it and was told that they were just then clearing a table for us. Another 15 minutes later, we were seated. 15 minutes after that, a waiter showed up, asked for our drink, entree, and dessert orders all at once, which annoyed me. The whole time we were there, it was as if we were being rushed through, while the staff had as little to do with us as possible. I would have ordered coffee with dessert, since someone nearby had one and it smelled good, but I never got the opportunity. All in all, I'm very glad that we had a 2 for 1 voucher, which was the initial reason we went to this place in the first place, because while the food was tasty, it by itself wasn't worth £17 + drinks and an "optional" 12.5% gratuity added to the bill (by this, they mean they automatically add it on and you have to ask for it to be removed). For those prices, I expect good service and hospitality, but frankly, I've had better service at Waffle House. Even with the voucher we used (like I said, we're on a budget - you know how it is), I still don't really feel like we got a good value. If you're looking for someplace a little special to have a nice night out, I'd say: keep looking. If you have buckets of money and don't care if you spend it on just-pretty-good food and not-good service, have at it. Oh, and I'm not sure what the Mr. Uppity McSnoot's problem was with me - maybe it was that I'm female, American, or quite a bit taller than he was, but the man I dealt with in the first place and who eventually seated us kept deferring to my (Scottish, slightly less tall) boyfriend and being perfectly polite to him after being really scoffy and rude to me. P.S. We came home to find that the restaurant sent an email, timestamped 8:30 PM (our reservation was for 8, remember?) to say that our time had been switched to 9:15. What's the point in sending an email when the patrons will have already been expecting a table for half an hour? Had they called us to inform us of the change, we'd have canceled, since we'd pre-booked cinema tickets for 9:30.

Great for Breakfasts as it's usually really quiet and you can get a couch to yourself - serving cereal, porridge, cooked breakfasts and the like, so you can hit that after a hungover right before an early tutorial. Hmm, maybe avoid the scrambeled eggs though, I wasn't too happy with mine when I was last there. Lunch is somewhat busier, but the food is almost like gourmet fast food, with nicely made up dishes sitting out on the hotplates to be picked up if anyone fancies it - obviously at a price though - reduced for student and staff. Much better than a plate of greasy chips and cheese! Therefore it beats the QMU and the GU by miles, rather on a par with the Hub.

I've spent most of my uni career grabbing some pre-made sandwich from Gregg's or the like and then gobbling it down quickly, and pretty secretively, while in front of a computer screen somewhere trying to desperately finish an essay/reading/something that has an imminent deadline. So, when I had to brave this new pasture in order to have a coffee and a chat over an upcoming project with a lecturer this was a surprise. It's in part of the main building so is large, airy and - let's face it - cold. However, you can see the original brick work, high ceilings and lovely glass windows. It also has a good mix of sofas and traditional table/chair affairs for when you need a proper sitting at the table position. The food is miles ahead of union food (The Food Factory is called that for a reason, am I right??) but not quite up there with non-uni places. Though, for the prices, venue and self-service elements, it's better than hiding behind a computer stuffing a sandwich in your gob.

I really didn't know where it was but thankfully Leanne told me it faces Charing Cross station so that narrowed it down to just four sides to explore. I found it on the second - win. If you go to Charing Cross Station from Elmbank Crescent, you will see the Baby Grand from the road to the west side of the station. The Baby Grand is a lot more classy than I expected - something you'd seen in Law & Order with the detectives sipping drinks at the bar, rather than a run down restaurant clinging onto its former beauty. There's a restaurant seating area at the back which is where we had lunch, and more casual dining at the front. The menu is simple: two courses for £9 with dishes like chicken liver parfait, salt and pepper squid, haddock and chips and sandwiches. I was going to just get a main until Leanne told me about the Monte Cristo sandwich (£8.25 with skinny fries). It's made from French toast. A French toast sandwich?! Who's ever heard of such a thing?! Then it's filled with roast chicken, ham and cheese. Oh my days. I had to have it in my face, immediately. It didn't take long to arrive and was just as ridiculous as it sounds. Cheesy, oozy and kind of stodgy, but not in a bad way. In a delicious, carby way. I love chicken and ham together and the filling was perfect, fresh, lovely and tasty. I actually couldn't eat it all (I had just had soup for brunch) but I made sure I ate as much of the filling as I could. The skinny fries were also excellent but they didn't get much of a look in over the sandwich. Service was super friendly and welcoming, and I chatted to the waitress on my way out about the fact I'd never been in. It's located towards the top of Princes Square and is absolutely huge when you get inside - there's a bar area and a massive restaurant, as well as a private dining space. And not forgetting the terrace which seems like the most popular space on a sunny day. We had a drink at the bar and then moved to sit in the restaurant which was empty - but it felt like being in an exclusive private dining rather than weird, which was nice. The back of the restaurant looks over the courtyard behind Princes Square. I opted for the 2 course quick lunch which is £15. While the rest of the menu sounded quite tasty, I couldn't resist the chargrilled asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise, followed by the baked goats cheese and beetroot salad with walnuts. Both these dishes were exceptional and I was really pleased with just how good they were, especially on a quick lunch menu. The asparagus was delicious (although I always love asparagus) and had just the right amount of hollandaise. While you can't see it in the photo, there was a massive portion of goats cheese - I was in total heaven. I felt a bit virtuous for ordering a salad but I'm not sure that counts when most of it is cheese. That being said, the leaves of the salad were delicious and I managed to finish off the whole plate. Service was friendly and helpful, and there was a decent choice of drinks. While it was pretty quiet when we were there (Thursday lunch + sunshine), I'd been keen to head back for Friday night drinks. They even have their own sneaky express entrance from the rear entry to Princes Square!
