I absolutely love this Hidden Gem in Escondido. It's especially great around the holidays, and when you want to shop Loco. It's the cutest store that sells items from several different people that rent space inside. It has tons of items from antiques, to Furniture, to clothing, to nostalgic candy and everything in between. It's especially nice to go during the holidays, as they have tons of great items for gifting, or decorating. Some of the booths will have sales on their items as well. I've done several articles of clothing from here that I really loved. There is plenty of street parking around, and you can walk to other stores and restaurants just a ways down the street. They have frequent star events where they will offer treats and drinks as well. Check this place out first your holiday shopping, or just all year round. I love this place! There is SO much to look at, it's impossible to leave here empty handed. They have everything from gifts, to furniture to antiques! GHOST STORY: A CAUTIONARY TALE OF HOPE, BETRAYAL, AND REDEMPTION In the sleepy little town of Escondido stands a quaint antique store that holds an extensive collection of forgotten treasures. As I wandered through its dusty aisles of cat vests, pizza headphones, and mushroom lamps... my eyes landed on an unkempt woman looking over a peculiar object. She had dark, asymmetrical eyes and her brow was furrowed like she was angry. She nodded, like she wanted me to know that she saw me. When I whispered to my wife to look, she replied "What woman? There's nobody there?!?" The peculiar object was an ancient, intricate-looking wooden box. Inside was a crumpled, time-worn note. Curiosity overwhelmed my cautionary instincts, as I wondered how the box, note, and strange woman were connected. I haggled the price down to $25 and purchased it. Little did I know how this seemingly innocuous decision would change my life. As soon as the box found its place in our home, strange occurrences began to unfold. Unexplained whispers echoed throughout the night, chilling gusts of wind blew through closed windows, and the box would mysteriously move from one place to another. Desperate for answers and unable to ignore the increasing malevolence, I posted photos of the box online; along with the note of seemingly random words: "Aberdeen, Omit, Leafage, Buck, Bank". Perhaps an amateur online sleuth, a decoding prodigy, or even a paranormal investigator could unlock the secrets held within. Various conspiracy theories began to occupy the thread. It was speculated that the words were some sort of spell to summon up evil spirits. Others surmised that the note was used by a spy network to communicate. Some said the box was a miniature version of a vault of buried treasure and the words were the combination to unlock it. Ultimately, a man named Theo revealed the note was in fact, a weather report. It was not encrypted for secrecy but this shorthand allowed stations to telegraph local conditions to the weather bureau on-the-cheap. "Aberdeen" was Aberdeen station in South Dakota. "Omit" meant an air temp of 56. "Leafage" was a dew point of 32F. "Buck" signifies no precipitation, and "Bank" indicates 12 mph wind. I am obsessed with this place! If you like antiques or anything cute, you will LOVE this store. It is a HUGE store with an inside and outside. From antique furniture, houseware, and clothing, to modern house items, pins, tote bags and more, you can find a gift for yourself or a loved one forsure. This place is LGBT inclusive with Pride colors everywhere throughout the shop! I feel the store is mostly catered towards women, queer people, and antique lovers, but men could also really enjoy this place, too! I noticed two families with kids, also, and the kids were all finding things they loved. Everything here is MUCH more affordable than other antique shops, and the women who are working here are really nice. I was even offered a free mini water bottle at check out! It was super hot in here, unfortunately, and that's the only downside. I don't know if they normally have AC, or if they don't, but it was very hot inside today. What a perfect place if you are looking for something eclectic, rustic, vintage, antique or just fun! Note: this place is huge. Prepare to have some time to look at every inch of this space. I'm sure you are bound to find something whether it's for you or a gift for someone. They have an outdoor space too, with very rustic items. I could very well see someone using some of those rustic items and adding that as their last final touch. You'll find themed items as well. For example, gardening, beach, boho and more. They also have greeting cards if you have found the perfect gift for someone. It does get a little warm inside. I welcomed the fans that were placed throughout the store. Urban Barn is a Grand Avenue success story. They've been able to survive where many other antique / booth stores have failed. What you may not know about Urban Barn is that if you have old furniture, stuff that can be restored into Shabby Chic, they'll buy it and pick it up for free under some conditions. Basically you call, send photos, and agree on price. Their offer will likely be much less than you expect but they're not jerks about it. They need to make enough profit to make it worth their time. They're also not junk collectors. It's so nice to find a place that DOESN'T sell the very expensive Annie Sloan chalk paint. This place sells Vintage Market & Design paints. The most magical time of the year for an update has arrived for the Urban Barn! There has never a time when I've visited my favorite vintage and new shop the Urban Barn, and could not find that thing that I needed that I didn't know I needed. It's set up like a co-op, each shop owner updates their own merchandise for the change of the season and you can order some custom things from some vendors here also. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanakkuh, New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easer, the 4th of July, every season is one to celebrate. Located in downtown Escondido on the edge of town with plenty of parking. I tell everyone about the place and I take collages, my husband (who tolerates it) here too. It's hot, it's cool, I have a plethora of finds in photos, look thru the photo links for the newest as updates don't always populate, so the newest is listed first. Shop with your friends, drag a spouse or purchase something unique from here just for you! The handmade jewelry, vintage books and finished furniture are a few favorites, and I have a thing for binoculars, lanterns and things for our dog. Items are well priced and if you see something you must have, get it when you see it. New or old, it will not be there when you return! Definitely a cute place with lots to look at, but checking out was ridiculous. A 5 minute transaction took at least 20 minutes. First, i had to wait about 10 minutes for the person in front of me. While waiting, i read a sign at the register that there is a 3% charge on ALL purchases. I tried to shut the transaction down based on principle. but they decided to waved the fee. BUT, it literally took another 10 minutes to ring up my 3 items. I had to correct the employee on my correct change. I really dont have 20 minutes of time to dedicate to inept people. Finally a delightful upscale vintage/antique and home decor store. We've been searching the Sam Diego area quite a while for a vintage store that carries furniture, decor and jewelry. It's hard to find one that doesn't just sell junk. Urban Barn is a large store full of beautiful items. The different booths are thoughtfully displayed. Great vibe. Everyone was helpful and very friendly. We stopped by on a Saturday and they were offering complimentary refreshments. I have been to this antique/ collectible store, located on Grand St., in the heart of downtown Escondido at least 6 times in the last year and every time I go, I ask myself "why?" I really want to support local businesses in my community but this business has some of the rudest employees I have ever met. I recognize many are collectors working as part of their agreement, but they are devoid of common customer service skills and simple courtesy. I get the feeling I am bothering them if I want to make a purchase and I have made a purchase at every visit. Holding a simple transactional conversation, let alone eye contact with a customer is something that must be forbidden. Just today, I had two people at the counter who didn't say anything to me before, during or after my transaction. I would say it is a one time occurrence, but it has been the same experience every time I've gone there. I think I've given Urban Barn enough chances. There are other stores with nicer people who would appreciate my business. If you are a vendor here, think twice. read more

This is the cutest little antique shop ever! It reminds me of Fixer Upper because of all the cool wood stuff they have and rustic/shabby chic knick knacks! The prices are on the high end but it is totally worth stopping by! They have clothes, 2nd hand name brand designer purses (Chanel, Ferragamo, etc.) and some other pretty awesome stuff. Urban Barn is pretty cool! Very eclectic mix of items, hard to describe. My friend and I stopped by briefly while on our way elsewhere ... didn't buy anything but enjoyed looking around. The staff seemed nice enough but never acknowledged either of us, even when I tried to make eye contact from a few feet away ... they seemed more interested in chatting with each other. I am so happy I found this store! It's my new favorite place. They have the cutest farmhouse decorations and the cutest clothing, and the prices are beyond reasonable. Even better, this place is huge. I could have spent a long time in there, but I had the fam with me and they weren't totally on board my shopping train. I will definitely be back to get some decorations for my house, and I spotted some cute tank tops I want also. I've been coming here for about seven years now. It's my go to store for impressing out of town guests and for me just to walk around every couple months or so to see what's new. I've had some amazing finds here like authentic mercury glass, milk glass, authentic Japanese fishing balls, refinished antique furniture pieces and metal works just to name a few. Cutest antique shop! It looked really small on the outside but surprisingly, it was a pretty big shop. The girls working were very welcoming and I loved the shabby chic and farmhouse decor. There's clothes, decor, a bit of mudpie, some woodwork. Very interesting and fun place to browse around. They also had some other stuff outside so don't miss that section. Just shopped there today, after not being in there for about a year. They seemed to have really filled all the vendor spaces, as it was packed with merchandise, all very decently priced. Vendors there vary, so you don't see the same stuff over and over. However, some vendors have some new inventory, which is fine, but some have ubiquitous "gift show" and Hobby Lobby stuff and it's recognizable. That can really take away from a shop's credibility. Over all, everything is well-merchandised; you can walk without knocking stuff over and items are accessible. One of the best things this shop has going for it is the customer service - outstanding! Cold water for guests, happy and friendly staff who go out of their way to help without being pushy. I'm looking forward to picking up a few Christmas gifts there this year.
