I enjoy Hammer and Stain so much, and I attend classes so often, my mother in law thought a gift card for $300 would be a great birthday present for me. She googled Hammer and Stain gift card, and clicked the first link and made the purchase. Apparently it was for the Clermont studio rather than Jupiter, which was an honest mistake that anyone could have made. I tried to use the gift cards at my Jupiter studio and that is when I found out they must have been purchased for another location. In order to have the gift cards transferred I needed to get in touch with Clermont and Alexa to first confirm and then have the $300 transferred. I called the Clermont studio and also sent an email. Alexa called me back and I explained the situation. She said she would get back to me, but never did. In the meantime, my mother in law reached out to try and resolve the issue. Alexa was slow to respond, and was not very helpful. She gave my mother in the law the run around for a few days, told her she couldn't refund, couldn't transfer, and of course made her feel like a stupid person for her mistake. My mother in law contacted the corporate office twice with no response. Finally After threats of filing a claim with the bank, and attempting to transfer, Alexa said it would be easier to just refund the money, which she claimed she couldn't do initially. Now thanks to Amy at the Jupiter studio, I will be back to Hammer and Stain and I will continue to do projects. I am thankful that the studios are individually owned and that Alexa's dishonesty, and poor customer service is not an indicator of how other Hammer and Stain studios operate.

So here is my tale...on Saturday, November 29, I went to Michael's in Clermont, FL to purchase a Christmas tree. The tree in question was on sale from $249 to $69. It was a 5ft Bowen pine. Attached to the floor model was a plastic envelope with several slips in it, one of which could be brought to the register to purchase the tree. I took a slip, went to a register with a sales clerk and made the purchase. After waiting for about 30 minutes for someone to bring us the tree, we were told that they only had the floor model left and because it was the last one, we would have to pay full price even though we had already purchased it for the sale price. I then asked to speak to the manager. When the clerk returned, we were told that the manager confirmed that we would have to pay the original price of $249.00 for the tree that was on display (The manager didn't even have the decency to come and speak with us herself). So, while still at the store, I checked others in the area and found the tree at Michael's in Ocoee. I called to verify they had one in a box and then ordered it online for in store pickup. I then went back to the register in Clermont to have my purchase refunded. The girl seemed to be a bit confused about what she was doing. Concerned, that she would somehow cancel my online order, I questioned her and was assured that that wouldn't be a problem. Well, she was wrong. While she did refund my in-store purchase she also cancelled my online order which I learned only after driving the 30 minutes to the Ocoee store. Luckily, there was still a tree in stock and I was able to purchase it for a third time. While there I also inquired about their policy with regard to floor models and was told that they sell them at the sale price and wasn't aware of any Michael's that did not do the same. Needless to say, Michael's in Clermont needs a new manager and customer service at their 1-800 number needs to step up their game.
