I went in on a Saturday and found parking fine. The area was bustling! This book has A LOT. It was a little confusing to figure out where I wanted to go, but I found myself browsing. The mix of books is actually impressive. They have a lot of bookish merch too. I ended up purchasing a book, bookmark and book holder. The service and value were good. This place is a lot of fun and a great stop if you do want to make a day out of visiting the shops and checking out the markets.

We found some beautiful old Bibles, some classic literature, some really cool folklore books, great books on Florida, and my personal favorite, music books. Today I picked out two piano books filled with Christmas songs. Pricing here for these old books are a bit high in my opinion. The one book, 23 pages was priced at $7 and the other, 32 pages was priced at $10. I can usually find these for about $4-$5 each at thrift stores because they are not in high demand. I can't complain too much because when I asked the owner, Doug, for a discount he did give me $4 off, which was wonderful. There were a lot of other music books mostly for guitar that I could see spending a little more money on because they're original prices around $20 to $25. I also found a J.S. Bach Bible of music which intrigued me; however, there was no fingerings and it was missing indications of expression present in several of the books In my library, so I decided to hold off on purchasing that one. What's unique about this store when comparing to other book stores in the area is at this store makes binding repairs and performs leather work, which is a plus. I'm sad to say that this was my first time here today. I had no idea that Doug has been running the store for 14 years now. Regardless, I will definitely return next time I'm shopping in the area.

The owner is great guy - knowledgeable, friendly, and pleasant - and he rightfully has pride about his stuff. He will leave you alone until you pay probably, or initiate conversation. The place is very organized - lots of common sense labelling. If you're terrified of those messy book stores with stacks on the floor that requires rummaging, this place is the opposite of that. When I first walked in I wasn't even sure where to begin but it was great to be able to browse and see their extensive collection. Staff is very friendly and let us know that they curate their books from donations. If you donate your books to them, they create an account where you can have a credit on file to use. As someone, that occasionally does donate books, this is fantastic news! Additionally, all of their books unless otherwise stated are half off the cover value which is incredible and affordable! You're not only decluttering your house, but you're helping out a small local business. With every book you bring in, you receive credit toward future purchases. I already have more credit than I'll probably ever use, but I'm happy that my previously read books are going to a good home. The store has a pretty decent used book selection with floor-to-ceiling shelving (and also some graphic novels, CDs, and DVDs). It's always hit-or-miss, so each time I go; I never know what I'll find. There's also a little sitting area with coffee or hot cocoa, if you so desire. How much are the used books? They're half off the cover price. How does the credit work? You get an additional half off the half-off price. So if a book has a cover price of $8, the store sells the book for $4. I can use my credit balance for an additional $2 off (half of the $4), leaving the book at a total of $2. There are also some $1 books on a rack outside the store. Everyone working there is always super friendly and helpful.

If you are a music lover like me, they do have a decent selection of Vinal's and CD's available for purchase plus they have a whole section of books dedicated to music, biographies about musicians, and some popular sheet music books available for piano and guitar. They could definitely improve the sheet music section but overall, it's not terrible. There are some great stationary items here for purchase that are of higher quality than you might find at the cheap-o dollar store if you are looking for something special and unique. I also love their notebooks and journals that have a soft leather covering, very cool. If you shop here often, they also have memberships available where you can save on your next purchase, comparative to something Barnes and Noble offers. I recommend stopping in if you're in the Oviedo Mall, it's a great book store with a lot to offer.

On my most previous visit I was looking specifically for piano sheet music, and the owner informed me they were upstairs in a basket under the W-X & Y-Z section of Rock CD's, and sure enough, they were exactly where she said they were. Luckily for me I found two books in great condition - Bach Short Preludes and Fugues for the Piano for $3.95 and Bella Bartok Mikrokosmos Piano Solo Vol III for $3.50, great deal! There is also a variety of other instrument sheet music for clarinet, trumpet, guitar, mandolin, and more in this section. They have a great variety of used music CD's and Vinyl's upstairs for sale at a reasonable price. I've purchased CD's from here for $4 and less, but some could be higher if they are rare or brand new in the cellophane wrap. I haven't purchased any Vinyl's but they do have a decent selection. There are also a variety of posters and old collectable magazines here for sale, which is cool. I actually have some of the Guitar Magazine ones they are selling for $25 and more. The owner informed me that she acquired a much larger store in another state and will have a lot more books and other items coming after the New Year, so be sure to stop in and see what they have to offer. Something to note is the owner is not flexible with pricing so I don't recommend trying to get a better price by buying multiple items and talking her down, it just wont work. Another thing is there is really nowhere to sit down to read for a few minutes to see if you want to buy a book your interested in, even if you try, you quickly become crowded in by other shoppers trying to get around you. All-in-all, Maya Books and Music provide a fun shopping experience if you're a book lover and just happen to be in Downtown Sanford Shopping. I highly recommend stopping in to check them out.

I have found some wonderful books here and if you go upstairs you'll find all sorts of records. To me the books are well priced, and the owner is always so so welcoming! Before writing my review I did read some other reviews about people trying to ask for price matching, which honestly I find weird to do with a small book shop (do it to the corporate businesses, not the small shops - but that's just my opinion). I also don't think the owner does price matching or accept any haggling as I did overhear her telling a couple she did not. They had a pretty wide selection of both considering how small the shop was! I didn't look through everything, but I also saw a good selection of best-sellers. The books didn't seem that discounted, they were mainly new. I did notice that there were some used books as well. The shop owner seemed nice and was reading behind the counter while I perused. All in all, it seemed like an okay shop - if you're looking for African American authors, I'd most certainly check out this shop because they had a wide selection.
