    Blind date with a book

This is the best bookstore in central Florida. The store is always clean with a great selection of books for its size. I love the front table for new arrivals and how easy it is to preorder books. The booksellers are kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Books are priced as advertised, making it easy to shop and I appreciate that they have both a great rewards system and so many fun events. I don't want to buy books anywhere else!

Spellbound is a small independent book store with a semi new location in Sanford. One of the best things about exploring cities is getting to visit independent local shops and bookshops are one of my favorite things to explore. Now I am local to Seminole County but hadn't gotten the chance to visit Spellbound. The store is very quaint but has a bright and vibrant aesthetic which is very inviting. You won't be overwhelmed with books which might be the case in some other shops. They've got a modest selection of nonfiction, thriller, romance, mystery, sci-fi all the stuff you might expect to see in a book store. They've also got a really cozy area dedicated to children's books with a chair to sit down and read. The bottom line, this is small cozy independent bookstore in Sanford FL. If you're looking for rare finds or a vast selection this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for carefully curated selections including local authors with a playful environment and display combined with lots of local love and customer service this is the perfect place for you.

Great curated collection of used and new books with very friendly staff! Would definitely come back!

This adorable Sanford bookstore has been open for about a month and has already caught my eye. They host monthly book clubs (I think 3 or 4 of them) and they hosted a cookies and story time event with Santa for the littles in their kid section. Other events have included an author chat and an upcoming meet & greet book signing. Follow them on Instagram for all of their weekly updates and new arrivals, but do yourself a favor and go see this cute bookstore for yourself!

What we need are more independent bookstores, so I was thrilled to stop by and be Spellbound today. Brooke was kind enough to even let me in a few minutes early and wait, what, is that a Taylor Swift bookmark?! Sold! This charming bookstore is just what Sanford needs. Having relocated from a former location, this spacious shop has just enough to whet any booklover's appetite with Fiction, Non-fiction, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Romance sections. They also have book club events, etc. Finally, if you spend $20, you get a Loyalty Card to use for future purchases. A completed card gets you $20 off! I look forward to my next excuse to spend my hard-earned pennies here. Spellbound? Enchanted, more like.

Today was the Grand Opening of Spellbound Books. It's a super cute store with new, surplus, and gently used books (could barely tell the difference between them and the new ones!). They had many of the top, popular titles! They also have numerous bookish gifts including unique candle scents, book marks, tote bags, etc. They have many events coming up as well including THREE different book clubs - truly something for everyone! I'm so happy to have a new, indie book store in the area! Go check them out! For more, find me on IG @foodiethatwanders :)

They also have a lot of CDs, VCR tapes, magazines, and many more items I was unable to explore on this visit. We were on our way to a concert and I had about 30 minutes to look for a few music books, which I found with the staff's help. I have to say that the staff were great and knew exactly where they kept the music books, good job! It's good to know this store has a variety of music books to choose from and for the most part they are organized well, except the ones on the floor. You just have to dig a little. I chose two Faber level III piano books and a Bastien level III piano technique book. The Bastien book was only $2 but it has a lot of notes from previous students. The two Faber books were $6 each and virtually untouched, excellent! Some of the books are on the pricey side, especially some of these old music books, they are asking $20 when the covers are missing and music score is illegible. I just don't see myself spending that much when I can put that $20 towards a brand new book series or Henle Album of exceptional quality. Regardless, I want to support local, and have been very happy with my purchase. I will return again to see what I missed on my previous visit. If you love book stores, this is a good one and definitely worth the stop.

FINALLY had a Saturday off, and I'm so sad I wasn't able to make it out here before now. I also brought a bag of books to sell. The processing for the books I brought took about 30 minutes (it was an IKEA bag FULL, I just needed to transfer to one of their bins). That gave me time to look around and see what they might have. Not all of my books were accepted, which was fine, because the reason this place is so big and yet does such good business is that the books are well currated to ensure that they are desirable. Older books, or less desirable are kept down to one copy, whereas more popular books may have three or four of the same book, but the book is popular enough that it will be sold. Value wise, the rare, signed, and first editions area is VERY reasonably priced. Value for books brought in is given as either cash (I was given a lesser amount this way) or store credit I walked out with a few of the sequels of book series I have the first and maybe second of, but this way I could complete the series for less. I also found a few books on my TBR that were available. Books are indeed at used book prices, not hugely marked up, so overall I considered the visit a huge win. Overall, I guess my complaint is only that this is the only location, and I wish there was a sister store more toward central or even the west side of Orlando.

I've been coming to Maya Books and Music for years and always find something good when I stop in…read more The store is clean, orderly, and the book sections are clearly displayed; however, it doesn't hurt to ask for help from the owner, she knows where everything is. On my most previous visit I was looking specifically for piano sheet music, and the owner informed me they were upstairs in a basket under the W-X & Y-Z section of Rock CD's, and sure enough, they were exactly where she said they were. Luckily for me I found two books in great condition - Bach Short Preludes and Fugues for the Piano for $3.95 and Bella Bartok Mikrokosmos Piano Solo Vol III for $3.50, great deal! There is also a variety of other instrument sheet music for clarinet, trumpet, guitar, mandolin, and more in this section. They have a great variety of used music CD's and Vinyl's upstairs for sale at a reasonable price. I've purchased CD's from here for $4 and less, but some could be higher if they are rare or brand new in the cellophane wrap. I haven't purchased any Vinyl's but they do have a decent selection. There are also a variety of posters and old collectable magazines here for sale, which is cool. I actually have some of the Guitar Magazine ones they are selling for $25 and more. The owner informed me that she acquired a much larger store in another state and will have a lot more books and other items coming after the New Year, so be sure to stop in and see what they have to offer. Something to note is the owner is not flexible with pricing so I don't recommend trying to get a better price by buying multiple items and talking her down, it just wont work. Another thing is there is really nowhere to sit down to read for a few minutes to see if you want to buy a book your interested in, even if you try, you quickly become crowded in by other shoppers trying to get around you. All-in-all, Maya Books and Music provide a fun shopping experience if you're a book lover and just happen to be in Downtown Sanford Shopping. I highly recommend stopping in to check them out.

I have found some wonderful books here and if you go upstairs you'll find all sorts of records. To me the books are well priced, and the owner is always so so welcoming! Before writing my review I did read some other reviews about people trying to ask for price matching, which honestly I find weird to do with a small book shop (do it to the corporate businesses, not the small shops - but that's just my opinion). I also don't think the owner does price matching or accept any haggling as I did overhear her telling a couple she did not. Anyways a great book shop to visit and if you love to support local shops, this is one to visit and support!

We found some beautiful old Bibles, some classic literature, some really cool folklore books, great books on Florida, and my personal favorite, music books. Today I picked out two piano books filled with Christmas songs. Pricing here for these old books are a bit high in my opinion. The one book, 23 pages was priced at $7 and the other, 32 pages was priced at $10. I can usually find these for about $4-$5 each at thrift stores because they are not in high demand. I can't complain too much because when I asked the owner, Doug, for a discount he did give me $4 off, which was wonderful. There were a lot of other music books mostly for guitar that I could see spending a little more money on because they're original prices around $20 to $25. I also found a J.S. Bach Bible of music which intrigued me; however, there was no fingerings and it was missing indications of expression present in several of the books In my library, so I decided to hold off on purchasing that one. What's unique about this store when comparing to other book stores in the area is at this store makes binding repairs and performs leather work, which is a plus. I'm sad to say that this was my first time here today. I had no idea that Doug has been running the store for 14 years now. Regardless, I will definitely return next time I'm shopping in the area.
