Side note: if you ask for change for the little print machine, they'll give it to you even though they are cashless. Overall, this place was super welcoming and engaging. Incredible selection of romance books, clearly marked by genre within sections of the store, and a great selection of bookish merch- stickers, kindle port charms, kindle covers, glass tumblers, tote bags and more. Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially if you happen to get a new release or an autographed copy of a book! Be sure to check out the local author area- this store has a greater selection than many I have seen! Be aware, parking in the lot directly in front of the store can be hard- but, street parking is an option, and depending on time of day there's a school about a block away with parking that several businesses nearby utilize after school- but, if visiting during the school year, be aware of after school activities in the lot, keep speed down, and follow the directional signs. East End market IS across the street, so if you visit there and make the short walk, you can take advantage of the entire neighborhood and all it has to offer!

BookBurn Café and Social blends the atmosphere of a neighborhood café with the energy of a…read morecommunity hub, bringing together drinks, books, art, and social events in a vibrant, inclusive, and intentionally welcoming space.   I saw this place pop-up recently on IG via Feisty Trivia's posts that BookBurn was one of their new trivia spots, and I'm near the Mills area often, so I wanted to check it out after work. Walking in, there's immediately a sense of good atmosphere and vibes. It's very LGBTQ+ and BIPOC friendly, which makes sense as it's located right behind Southern Nights and there are signs inside highlighting this as a Filipino-owned business. I saw the owner, Johnny, who I recognized from IG, helping set-up for trivia later (it was Thursday). It's clear from the atmosphere and vibrant décor and art that this place was designed with a lot of love, care, and intentionality.   There's a full bar with lots of great beers on tap. I arrived during happy hour, which runs from 4-6pm Tues-Fri and offers $1 off pints and $2 off wine. My bartender, Rafi, was super-friendly and welcoming. He'd answered my questions outside about parking (more on that later), and when I sat at the bar, he asked if it was my first visit and gave me some free stickers. He let me sample a few beers, and I settled on the "From Afar," a Winter Garden beer. Prices are great.  I could have gotten a 10oz draft for $5.80 or the 16oz for $8.60 plus $1 off for HH; I chose the latter.   There's also a coffee shop inside called Early Eats. I didn't try them out on this visit, but their menu looked like they had a good selection of breakfast foods, drip coffee, cold brews, espresso beverages, and various teas from 7am -close. Theres's a normal amount of bar seating, a few high tabletops across from it, and a full row of larger booths on the wall on the other side of that, with those booths flanked by coolers of canned alcoholic options. There's also the two large "living room" areas with comfortable couch seating just inside either of the two entrances.   One of these areas is the "Banned Books" display in the center, and then along the wall is a curated selection of literature by queer and/or marginalized authors, and there's a clear progressive, revolutionary vibe. They host Campaign Kickstart on Tuesdays, where folks can meet progressive candidates, and engage in open discussions and action stations to help elect progressive officials. The quote on my receipt: "When the world around us chooses to extinguish our history, we become the revolutionaries and the storytellers."   What makes BookBurn Café and Social really stand out is the "Social" part of the name: this place has so many events! I was there on Thursday just before trivia started, but I also saw flyers for Poetry Night, Video Game Night, Pitch a Friend Night, Drag Crafts Night, Leprechaun movie night, $25 all you can drink Wine Wednesday, and more.   Location note: the café is located on a one-way street (South St.--look for the amazing artwork of a phoenix on the side of the building to know which one, as Waze led me to a slightly different lot). Parking is tough, depending upon when you arrive: there was a helpful sign on the door that said spots with Fisher Law or Face Place signs will get you towed, so they recommend parking in the limited spots facing the phoenix artwork, in the lot next to the Juice Bar, in the neighborhood just to the north, or in the Southern Nights lot.   With its lively events, curated books and art, and warm, friendly staff, BookBurn Café and Social feels less like a bar or café and more like a community space, and I'll definitely recommend it to friends.

They have a limited selection of books and I went in without really knowing what I was getting. Their concept of their book store as an immersivd sensory experience is something I hadn't heard of before and was really intrigued by. West was able to assist me and recommended a couple books that happened to be on my TBR. She was very friendly and helpful in guiding me with the experience. Their selection of sensory items were all cute and I ended up choosing a pair of socks, sparkling tea, and a cup. Depending on the genre of the book of your choosing, there is also a playlist that goes along with it. I think it's also awesome that they have a lounge space where they can host events. It's amazing to see the growth of this concept that started out as a subscription box, and now has a brick and mortar here in Orlando. Overall, I think it's a great concept that allows customers the chance to fully indulge and expand their reading experience beyond the pages.

I've only ever purchased their drinks. So, my wait times are usually minimal. Pricing is always reasonable. As noted, it is COZY. So, seating is limited indoors, but for a cafe of their size, it is more than enough. Also, they always showcase art in this cafe as well, and sometimes, pending the night, there is a live band (inside or outside in the courtyard). In the courtyard, there is AMPLE SEATING.
