I was visiting and wanted to see what the buzz was about. I visit thrift/consignment shops regularly and stopped by. First impression was "meh"! The odor is awful. Definitely smells like a dirty laundry basket. The first time I walk into a thrift store where the smell was so strong. The positive side is that it's a huge location with plenty of options for the college students nearby but they need to work on the odor. I walked in and out within minutes because of it. I'd suggest getting the scented drops for the AC to help with the odor. read more

I live for second hand clothing, and honestly I've had some of my best finds at this store. I personally think they are more selective about the state of the clothing that comes through as compared to other similar stores in the area, so I've rarely seen something that I'm scratching my head wondering how/why they are trying to re-sell it. I enjoy going--the employees are always nice to me. And it's spacious so I don't feel crowded. I definitely go out out my way to come here before I go to a Plato's closet. read more

If it were possible I'd give 0 stars, that is for selling. Now shopping- sometimes they have something you might like, SOMETIMES. I went in there to sell some dresses, they got back to me about 3 hours later, they picked out the nicest clothes from my pile where when I got them in the first place I spent around 200$ on each item, and Uptown literally cheapskate gave me 10$. 10$ for the nicest things I had brought in. AND THEN when I decided- no I think I can get more for these, I'll take them back- the woman had the nerve to say sorry THEY'RE OURS NOW. Go fuck yourselves uptown. I brought my clothes here to try and sell, I wasn't looking to get more than $10 but instead they denied all my clothes. I had some name brands like Nike and north face so I took the clothes and brought them to platos closet and got $40. Do not waste your time trying to sell here. read more

I arrived at the Mission Valley location right when they opened to sell some items. My container of items was second to one small bag brought in just before me. I was told it would be 45 minutes. An hour and fifteen minutes later, I checked to see if it would be much longer. They said maybe 15 minutes. During this time, THREE clerks were standing together at the cash-register chatting and joking around. I smiled and politely said I could come back later because I had an appointment. The clerk which may have even been a manager stated not to worry that it would only be a little bit longer. I saw her pick up my container to go through it. I turned around to let my appointment place know I would be late which took approximately 60 seconds. When I turned back around, she called my name and said she was unable to buy anything from me. Every single item except for the newer Banana Republic jacket on top was STILL neatly folded and untouched. She did not even look through anything at all. Not only was this clerk judging me on my skin color, she lied, and did not even look at the items I had brought to sell. This was an insulting experience and I'll be sure to let everyone know about it. read more

Expected second hand clothes quality with the advantage that it is geared towards young adults. Merchandise would receive a four star, but customer service receives a 2 stars. Fitting room attendant was fine, but the checkout time was ridiculously long. It took 17 minutes to check out two customers that had a total of four items. This has happened several times. read more

So, this was my first time selling anything to a consignment shop. I brought in 2 brand new with tags, never before worn dresses ( CelebBoutique size 6 ($122) and Altuzarra for Target size 12 ($70)), 2 pairs of brand new, never worn shoes (Steve Madden and Michael Kohrs). The girl behind the counter offered me a whopping and insulting $12 for my CelebBoutique dress and Michael Kohrs heels. She refused the NEW Steve Madden wedges due to a microscopic scuff on the front toe which was likely scuffed in transport to their shop. I looked around and lost count of the number of tacky and visibly worn shoes on their racks. I couldn't believe it. Maybe I don't know how the consignment process works but good grief! What a frustrating way to find out. Word of advice, don't take anything stylish, of value or in like new condition to this place. Not worth the process. read more

The blond manager in there is not very honest. I had a very expensive Burberry Trench coat that I was thinking of selling. I went in one day a few months ago and the young lady at the register quoted me $60.00. When I took it back 2 days later after I thought about it, I encountered the manager who quoted me $30.00. I told her what happened just 48 hrs prior but she would not honor what her salesperson quoted me from their computer. To me that shows a great deal of Dishonesty or maybe she just makes up prices as she goes along or maybe according to who she's speaking to at the moment. The choices are meh, the service is also meh. Last time I went there they had a rack full of shorts, but pickings in other types of clothes were slim. They don't treat the clothes well. I've seen many items ruined by the size stickers or hard metal hanger clips. Shame. I've found a few nice things there in the past, but not in a long time. There are rarely good brands, mostly Forever XI, Loft, Old Navy, Gap. Better organized than Plato's, I'll give it that. Also doesn't stink like butt and most things truly are "gently used". Every time I sold clothes here I got less money than I would have at Plato's, but the convenience of shopping while they went through my stuff was enticing until recently. They often underestimate the time it takes to go through the things you are selling. I spent there once an hour and a half because the associate said it would take 45 minutes. She never even got to it. It's a good place to browse and maybe discover something cool, like a pair of golden brand new MK sneakers for $25. read more

I have given this thrift shop a lot of chances but it always seems to disappoint. As a buyer and seller of second hand close this would be the last place I go to. They underpay and are very particular, however I also am unable to find any good clothes in their store. Though this is very close to my home, the attendants attitudes, and my past experience have me going out of my way to avoid the frustration of this store. I walked in an hour after bringing my stuff in when they said they would call in 35 minutes. I found my stuff on the floor (not in the black bins) clearly untouched. He said they didn't take a SINGLE article of clothing because of common wear. I had things with the TAGS on them. They clearly didn't even look at my bags. I had brand new men's nice button downs and tons of skirts and blouses. It was certainly clear they didn't even want to acknowledge what I brought in. Never going back again. Whenever I am in a new city and have time to just have fun - I like to visit the local thrift stores. Uptown Cheapskates are one of my favorites!! They are spread out all over the country and have great used products and fun new things to shop as well. This is an awesome store!! The employees were very helpful and patient as my daughter tried on lots of clothing items - they even kept them in a bin for her while we continued to shop. And - I am 50 but still found some great things for myself. My son (who typically hates thrifting) found a few pairs of shoes that were like new (that saved my hundreds!!). read more

I used to really like coming in here to sell and buy clothes but a lot of their staff has changed. I took clothes in recently and they didn't accept a single item due to "common wear". I had clothes that I had either worn once or still had the tags on them. Went with a friend, and checkout line was not moving because supposedly the store had no working means to accept cards. So I spotted my associate the cash. I was due $3 change but "Nyan" made no attempt to give it. She asked my friend if she wanted a bag for the purchase (ummm, yes.) I stood there for a good 30 seconds while Nyan attempted to ignore me away before I demanded my change and she begrudgingly provided it. I've never seen anything like it before in my life. Came only an hour after opening and it took and hour and a half to sort and price my clothes and then they didn't even take some of my best, most fashionable, and high priced items. I visit this establishment fairly often. It's the second most popular place I buy clothes at. This location has both men and women's clothing, but it's mostly for young women. If you've ever been to a Platos Closet, it's like that except way bigger and more mature (not teenage focused). Like any consignment shop, you have to be willing to put in the time to appreciate their selection. It can be very hit-or-miss, but oh man when you hit big you'll love it! You'd be better off selling your clothes on an app like Mercari or Poshmark. Took a pair of $80 Nike sneakers that I wore one time. They offered me $11.25 in store credit or $9 cash, and then sold them for $30 in-store. Won't be coming here again. read more

I'm am avid consignment shopper and am always looking for new shops. I was so excited when I found Uptown Cheapskate. It's easily the size of 4 Platos Closets put together and has a lot of upscale brands ie; BCBG, Michael Kors, Coach, Free People, etc. On top of the expected Hollister, A&F, AE, etc. They have an incredibly helpful and friendly staff, great prices and the best part.... you have plenty of room to slide the hangers around to actually see the clothes, unlike Platos! I just found Uptown a few days ago and my first visit I spent $200 and could have EASILY spent more. You will love this consignment store! read more

We love the prices but came there today and they had no heat, the thermostat said it was less than 60 degrees in the winter. All the workers are walking around with coats and gloves on, trying to use a 30% off Valentine's Day coupon from their Facebook page and they told me no only if it came in my email. If you don't want people to come to your store and use your coupons I say don't put them on your Facebook page. Been here twice and neither time did they give me a punch card, I had to fight tooth and nail to get it. Very frustrating. read more

THE WORST customer service throughout the entire chain of command. I'm absolutely furious at this place. I dropped clothes off at their store months ago was told "we will call you when it's ready" THEY NEVER CALLED. Not to mention the sales associates were rude and rushed me along. Giving them the benefit of the doubt I waited a few days then stopped in. Well apparently I signed a paper saying charity received my clothes if I didn't pick them up same day. My bad but maybe I would've picked them up if someone had called. Asked management to call me, shock they never did. Emailed management "owner of that location" never responded. Emailed again without response. Emailed corporate twice no response. This is ridiculous. I understand I should've read what I signed but the associates shouldn't be rude and management should respond to EVERY customer concern. This is not okay. Do not go there. I decided to try here after Plato's Closet was a terrible experience time and time again. And this place was even worse. I am pretty sure every time I go here I get helped by an older woman who may own it. They always tell me huge time frames and never get it done in time. They also never take my items. The one time they did take an item was when they tried to paid me $20 for a brand new pair of banana republic jeans (not outlet). I could not believe it. The people who work here are not very nice at all and the place has the typical old uncleaned clothing smell. They also have a lot of older clothes and styles. Would not recommend at all, I would rather give my clothes away with a tax write-off than endure this establishment. read more

The clothes they sell are not in the best of shape (missing buttons and holes). They like sheer thin shirts and big bulky jewelry. Don't even waste your time selling here unless you have "sorority girl" outfits. It takes almost 2 hours for them to look through your stuff and you have to wait in the store while they do it. read more

I had been wanting to find and visit an Uptown Cheapskate after hearing about them but never visiting one. While in the a Raleigh area I looked it up and decided to check it out. Very cool building and it felt more like a boutique than a thrift store... The ambiance was great and it was so well organized. It was priced higher than a Platos, more in line with a consignment store but I found tons of great brands.... Walked out with some Free People and Anthro for not too bad. My husband was hoping for some clothing but we only found lots of Hollister/Abercrombie type stuff for guys which he is not into. Great customer service as well! read more

One star only because the system doesn't allow me to choose none. So very disappointed with every aspect of my experience with this facility! Dropped off clothes to sell and was told by a not-so-friendly staff member that it would 2 hours. As if that type of wait wasn't ridiculous enough, I called after 3 hours and again after over 5 hours and they had still not completed!! 6 and a half hours later, they told me they would take $10 worth of my items and if I didn't pick them up by 7 pm the next day, they would be "donated". Next day...... I drive 40 minutes back to retrieve my unsold items and $10. After about 15 minutes of looking for the items of mine they want to buy, the items they want didn't even belong to me!! So, I ended up with a big fat nothing and some other person got robbed out of his four shirts. I will never be back. Seller beware of this facility. read more

They advertise their buying hours are until 7:00 pm. This is false advertising, because I walked in at 6:59 pm and they turned me away.... saying their system stops buying at 6:45 pm. If it is 6:45 pm, then advertise it that way. I drove 30 minutes to make it before 7:00 pm. I asked for the owner's name and they would not give it to me. They gave me their store's email address. Yes, I want to email the store directly to complain only to have it deleted by the people that I encountered this evening. I am in retail and all I have to say is where did the customer service standards go in this store? It was my first visit and will be my last. Clearly, I am not important to you as a customer, so I take my business someplace that knows how to treat a customer and you are not it. I will make sure to tell all of my friends that if they want to feel valued as a customer to stay far away from your store. read more

Neat place. Pretty good selection of stuff. In the past I've bought a few items from here. Yesterday I tried to sell them some clothing. All of my items were rejected with the explanation that the brands and style weren't what they wanted. That didn't bother me so much as how I felt I was treated. The girl, short brunette didn't look me in the eye, had a very dismissive attitude toward me and didn't even say bye as I grabbed my bags and left. In retail you need to have a lot more tact than that. Considering that I felt like dirt when I left, I may not be back. I love consignment stores, so I think I'm "experienced" enough to say - this is a GREAT one. I had driven by numerous times and the name caught my eye, so I finally Googled it. I eventually gathered enough of my old clothes and made a visit. I got to the store around 645, and they said they stop going through things people bring by at 7 but to ask the manager. (I've worked in retail and always try to do my part so that the customer has very little to do. NEVER direct someone "to the manager." How am I supposed to know who you're manager is?!) Manager said I could leave my stuff and she would have it done by 11am the next day even though I was there before 7... I felt uneasy about that but really just want to get rid of my dumb old clothes. When I looked around at the stuff they had it seemed to be mostly teenage mall stores- F21, Hollister, Abercrombie but I did find some J Crew and Brooks Brothers. I bought a pair of pants and came back the next day. They gave me a decent amount of money for about half of what I brought in and offered to donate the rest, which I was really happy about (less work for me:). The people who work there were helpful (minus telling me to "ask the manager") and pleasant and didn't seem annoyed when I went into the dressing room a few times with 9 items each (the max). I bought a shirt missing a few buttons and was told it wasn't eligible to be returned which surprised me. I asked about their return policy which is something I'm not used to. (Usually it's no returns at all.) The tags still have to be on and you only get store credit, but that's just fine by me. I always get things home and change my mind once I wear them around the house for a few minutes! Anyway. very nice place. It felt clean and CRAZY organized which made things so easy! Grouping items by size is great. I will be back for sure! read more
