I live with back pain that inevitably works its way up to my head where I get the worst migraines. Needle work is the only thing that gives me relief but unfortunately finding someone that is reliable and takes their time has been really hard. In the past I've been rushed in and out after a few quick stabs and while I do get the relief, I don't feel I got what I paid for. At Uptown, I get a full treatment tailored to my needs executed with care and precision. After leaving, not only do I get the pain relief I am looking for, but I get lasting results from the holistic approach and so far, zero soreness from a needle accidentally hitting a nerve ending. Previous needle work providers would tell me that hitting nerves were just a part of the process, come to find out that no, it in fact is not, it's part of the process when you are rushing and don't know what you are doing. I highly recommend Uptown Acupuncture for their professionalism, their level of care, their clean and welcoming facilities, and incredible staff. read more

Michael has been my acupuncture practitioner for at least eight years. His kindness, bedside manner, and attention to your comfort are unparalleled. He is extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate and makes reasonable projections for your healing that last. Michael is my number one referral for anyone who is experiencing pain or ongoing issues that western medicine alone can't seem to address (but also an excellent companion to western medicine). Everyone I send his way has similar impressive things to report. read more

I first saw Michael a few years ago for lower back pain. I was apprehensive about acupuncture, and the idea of needles being inserted into my back. Michael made me feel safe; explaining what he was doing each step of the way. He was able to treat me successfully in just a few sessions. Recently, after experiencing severe shoulder pain/spasms, I made another appointment. Again, he was able to treat me in three sessions. Highly recommend! read more

Have been going to Michael and Uptown Acu for over 1 year for everything regarding stress, anxiety, sleep issues, shoulder/neck soreness and overall health. Seen major improvements in all those areas. After I started running, I developed shin splints and now go regularly to relieve pain and soreness and that's helped me train for 10k and half marathon races. Absolutely recommend and have referred 3 friends and coworkers already. read more

1/13/2011 I really wish I could post this review in a place that the entire world could see it, well OK, perhaps just all of the U.S. I am 37 years old and have suffered from chronic lower back pain since I was 24 years old. Degenerative disk disease, to be specific. Since my first diagnosis in the late 90's I have tried all sorts of physical therapists, personal trainers, pain medications - both prescription and over the counter, cortisone injections, and radio-frequency ablation. All of these various treatments have given me very tepid result in the area of pain relief, so I finally decided (2 weeks ago) to try acupuncture as many folks have suggested. After my first treatment, for the first time in what seemed like ever, I was pain free IMMEDIATELY after jumping off of the table. I was a little skeptical about the results, but now after my second and third treatments I am completely sold. The relief that Michael has given to me is nothing short of a miracle. Yes, even after three treatments I am able to sit, walk, stand, exercise for long periods of time with NO PAIN. So, if you're in the market for an acupuncturist, look no further!! Michael is a kind, considerate professional, who is empathetic to his patients. ============================================== 3/3/2011 well, coming up on my 11th treatment next week and have a) reduced my visits from twice per week to once every other week, and b) 99% pain free. The pain that I have experienced has been muscle fatigue pain from standing 9 hours in the kitchen cooking, and not the nerve pain that I had been experiencing these many past years. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing back flips, else I'd land in the hospital because I know my physical limitations, It is just so nice to be able to do the little things that I like to do. I can go back to the gym, I can ride a bike (stationary at the moment), I can go for long drives, and walks in the park! :0) I think you get the picture! read more

I first saw Michael almost 2 years ago because I had thrown my back out for the first time. I was barely able to move when I arrived at his office and within just a few sessions he had me back to my old self. Since, he's been super helpful for injury prevention for running and was also able to help my partner with some of his long covid symptoms. Highly recommend! read more

I found Michael on Yelp almost 4 years ago and chose him because his office was convenient to my work downtown and I could ride my bike there. Here we are years later and I still visit every three weeks for maintenance. I enjoy that he never pushed me into more treatments than necessary, I never felt like I was being "sold". I suffer from migraines and routine visits help prevent them. Sometimes I get lower back pain from sleeping in strange positions and this week he targeted that location. I appreciate that he reviews what we've done in the past and guides the treatment based on my current ailments. I had an office work dinner after my visit on Thursday and when I showed up a few minutes late my coworkers had already been seated. They said my face looked very relaxed and I had a glow. read more

I've been seeing Michael for 4 months now and couldn't be happier with my experience. I had never done acupuncture before so I was quite nervous! But I found Uptown Acupuncture to be clean, warm and professional. I have occipital neuralgia and chronic migraines and came to Michael this past September when I was severely unwell. I'm now back to functioning in daily life and am even headed back to university! My neurologists found Michael's services to be absolutely fundamental to my healing process. I was happy my son had such a professional experience here. He has a workmanscomp injury and was referred here by a doc. He has CRPS from a broken foot that had 2 surgeries and in his words the work Michael did from day one till his last session has been amazing. From helping with foot damage to stress on his back and shoulders from being on crutches for over a year and 4 months has been amazing. He highly recommends seeing him great guy and amazing service he provides! When I'm in town I look forward to me or my husband working with him as well. read more

I am highly embarrassed that it's taken me this long to Yelp about how awesome Uptown Acupuncture and Michael Lay are. This is long overdue. After having been to several other acupuncturist I can assuredly say that Michael Lay gets results that others cannot. I have been a patient of his for about 4 years and whether its my regular appointment or a specific treatment the results are always excellent and very effective. Michael is the perfect combination of professionalism and kindness. He listens to concerns and shares his knowledge and treatment plan clearly and thoroughly. Most importantly, I trust Michael's work and am proof that his treatments are incredibly effective. If you are seeking relief from a chronic condition, wellness treatments, recovering from a sports injury or any other type of medical treatment go see Michael at Uptown Acupuncture. I was having issues with my left knee stemming from an old college injury. It was at the point I could not workout any more including jogging, which I really enjoy. I tried several recommendations from my friends in the health field and nothing worked. I finally went to Uptown Acupuncture and I noticed an improvement the next day after my first treatment. After the third treatment, I was having no more pain and back to jogging. I couldn't believe it! read more

I've tried many many different treatments and therapies and drugs to elevate my lower back pain, including steroid injections. Highly recommend Michael. Exceptionally knowledgable in his work. Friendly and honest.

I have seen Michael a number of times over the past year. He is thoughtful and genuinely motivated to improve your health. Importantly, I have seen results from the treatments I have received here. A big plus is that he takes a number of insurance plans so I can focus on healing opposed to being concerned about coverage. My experiences here have helped expand my view of medicine. Highly recommend checking this place out... read more

I started seeing Michael on my husband's recommendation for migraines, but I also receive treatment for tennis elbow and hip pain. I have experienced fewer headaches of less intensity since starting treatment. That is huge for me. What I love about it is that he focuses on the greatest problem at that moment, but addresses all the issues. He has a professional, caring attitude and works with the pt. Always on time and responsive. It's a great service!. Thanks Michael! Pam read more

I came to Michael for a minor hand injury that wouldn't heal on its own, and after visiting two different doctors that had no solution, I turned to acupuncture. Michael has a nice comfortable office and very competitive pricing, and even though I'm no acupuncture guru, he seems extremely knowledgeable in what he does. Acupuncture was the natural push my hand needed to start healing and I would definitely recommend trying it. read more

Prior to seeing Michael I had seen two Orthopedic Specialists and my Primary Care doctor after experiencing severe pain in my back. First the doctors prescribed large quantities of Narcotics and Muscle relaxers, which offered short term relief but as soon as the meds wore off I was back to the same problem. The Doctors also tried injections which again, offered short term relief but nothing lasting. After six months of pain and a final diagnosis that my spinal column was narrow so I would likely have to deal with the pain or forego doing any physical activity I decided to give Acupuncture a try. After two appointments with Michael I started feeling relief. Today I am pain free and have returned to my active lifestyle. I still go back once every month or so which seems to have kept the pain at bay. read more

I have not used acupuncture much, but what I found here is that it is legit. I had upper back tension and pressure in my neck and shoulders. My muscle tension and pressure has been reduced a lot. I have even noticed improvement in my sleep quality. If you haven't tried acupuncture yet, my advice is that you do. Uptown is where I go and tell my friends to go. read more

I am in the physical rehab field and have worked with many acupuncturists. I have found Michael and uptown acupuncture to be the best, hands down. I see the results of Michael's work in my clients. I had to use his services recently for my own injuries, and found him highly knowledgable and professional. His office is comfortable with a great location. I send both clients and family to Michael, and that's the best compliment I could give. read more

I am Alan Lichtenberg, MD, pain specialist. I have referred to and personally used Michael for acupunture for about 10+ years. He is the best! He is rare in that he merges Chinese medicine meridians with Western medicine (what I do) trigger points and dermatomes; and uses all that to do the best treatments. I have referred many patients to him, and they all think he is great, as do I personally. You may find an acupuncturist as good as him if you r lucky, but you won't find a better one. read more

I highly recommend Uptown Acupuncture. I became a patient of Mr. Lay approx 2 years ago, undergoing infertility treatments, I was encouraged to get acupuncture as an adjuvant to our treatments. His practice is professional and caring, we did have a successful pregnancy and I do believe it had alot to do with the acupuncture. In fact the only time I got pregnant was while using acupuncture-without the infertility treatments! He also got rid of my TMJ pain, which I have had for years-nothing else helped. All around great experience! read more
