Every time I drive back to NYC it's a must to have a slice of pizza. After shopping for hours and dealing with crowds etc. I couldn't stand the thought of waiting in line for joes pizza. I am in search of the tastiest garlic knots in the City. After a homemade salad lunch and still peckish, I ventured to the midtown Stavros Niarchos library. On 40th Street there is an Upside Pizza. Having eaten a tasty garlic knot at the branch in Nolita, I decided to have one here. $1 for one knot. Inexpensive. I ate it there but it wasn't in any way as tasty as the one over the weekend. Upside pizza had a really great crust. The cheese just melts into your mouth. Place is small but reasonable amount of searing for a quick lunch break. There is comfy chairs/stools to sit in. The problem is they do not check to confirm dashers accept the orders. So they let delivery drivers steal the food and then it comes 2 hours late and cold. Takes one extra second to check. Upside Pizza is truly a hidden gem on 40th! I stopped in around 5pm on a Sunday evening. There were very few people sitting around. You order slices at the counter. We ordered a plain, pepperoni and sausage and pickled pepper to go. We were staying just down the block. Everything transferred well back to the hotel and was delicious!!! I was really looking forward to trying this place since I had a craving for thicker, detroit style pizza. So I ordered 1 detroit style pepperoni slice, 1 regular size and garlic knots. And I was pretty disappointed by everything that I tried. Although it may just be my personal preferences, I did not love how excessively oily/greasy the pizza was, and it also did not taste too fresh to me. Although I came on a Saturday night at 8pm, it tasted like the pizza had probably been sitting there all day, which was not great. The regular slice especially tasted pretty old to me and the crust tasted like cardboard to me. The detroit style slice was a bit better than the regular one, but it was a bit too thick for my liking.
