Smoked meats are an American thing. They smoke the ribs for 4 hours here... and pitmaster knows that's a weak smoke. We ordered ribeye and they're out of 2 of the 4 cuts of steak that they sell. Two T-bone steaks was our substitute and were ordered medium, unfortunately they were rare to medium rare. I'd change the name of this establishment to "two tossers" because that appears to be what they do best.

A wonderful little shop, though a little pricy, where quality comes as standard and great taste comes with each purchase! Towards the end, or the beginning depending on where you are coming from, of the shopping street in fishponds (Fishponds road) it can serve as a motivational point to reach, or as a boost to begin a shopping trip, be it for your weekley shop at Morrisons, or for a key cutting visit to Timpsons, make Castellano's a stopping point!

But it is in trouble. The main reason for the decline was the loss of the Boots, Woolworths and, what started it all, the loss of the bakery which was right here. The spot was vacant for a long time so it is lovely that it has been filled by a passionate owner and a gorgeous little shop, but I do wonder how long it can last in an area of town which is lacking its basics now. The deli is lovely, great cheeses and knowledgable staff ( I love hearing him speak Italian to some of his clientele) but is a bit on the expensive side.

We met some friends for a late brunch, all nursing sore heads there was an interesting array of orders going in. I had the chorizo hash with poached eggs, the eggs were cooked to perfection so no complaints there, the hash was a great texture and portion size but it was well over seasoned and this really put me off. My husband had a veggie with burger with added pulled pork (sounds strange) the burger was good although a bit too much bread and the fries were a bit soggy. I do really like the decor, it's got an industrial vibe with added urban chic going on, there's some rather inviting looking a chairs in the window. We also had a red berry iced tea, which was ok, it quenched the hangover thirst so job done! All in all a pretty average experience, there's plenty of exciting independent cafés around the area that i'd recommend trying before settling on BTP!

The owners have been looking at moving on as they are at retirement age but are unwilling to let it go to anyone who does not have the same sort of customer friendly attitude and principles of a local cafe. Nanette and Brian are two of the most genuine and easy going people you will ever meet and the food speaks volumes for the care and attention put into making this cafe a must for locals and those who have heard of it.

Cafe Fresco breakfasts are extremely popular, especially with early morning workers, although this gem of a cafe is popular with all ages. I like the way the staff's hygiene qualification certificates are all on proud display, especially as the standards of cleanliness do seem high. It's not worth nit-picking faults because it is what is: a friendly good value and popular cafe with cheerful decor.

It is hard to recommend café Gusto over the plethora of superior coffee houses/lunch establishemts…read more The reasons are numerous: a.) The tables were coated in a seal of what can only be described as a horrific mix of bacon fat and sand. b.) The sandwiches are far too expensive. A plain old ham sandwich for 2.40! really? c.) I would suggest going to a different locally run establishment, or even a better quality chain like prêt a manger. Actually, you might as well make your own lunch.

But what really annoyed me is that, after ordering all food and drink downstairs, we waited a considerably long time for the food. The waitress was completely off on one and not on the ball at all. She delivered our food nearly 1 by 1 (there were 4 of us) and without cutlery?! This is basic stuff! Having worked in hospitality for 7 years it is so blatantly obvious people need cutlery to eat!! I was sooo hungry and wanted to start eating straight away, having waited a while, and couldn't which was so frustrating! Its a shame as the review is based on only one waitress representing the place but I'm afraid I was not impressed, having been ignored by her when signalling for cutlery! On the plus side the food was good and they gave us extra smoothies (by accident) which tasted great.

There are also modern brunch favourites such as poached eggs and smashed avocado on sourdough toast, and eggs benedict on toasted English muffins. Portion sizes are generally perfect for a light lunch, but there is a good selection of cakes and puddings if you're hungrier. The cafe has a small number of tables out at the front, and is dog-friendly (designated tables, In fact) - and so, popular with dog walkers.
