The Bare Grills Burger - 1st June 2015.
    Jon W.

It's pretty decent here. I think it's fairly new, so they don't quite have the hang of the smoking yet (in my opinion) when compared to other smokehouses I've been to. They market themselves more as a burger joint though, so the smoked items are just a bonus. I liked the overall feel of the place, friendly staff and a good, small menu. I had the Bare Grill Burger and a side of burnt ends. I don't they were traditional burnt ends, they seemed just like shredded brisket soaked in BBQ sauce.. But they tasted nice. If you want fries you need to pay an additional £2.50 on top. That always annoys me, of course I want fries. Add that in to the cost of the burger. Then an £11 burger that sounds reasonable turns in to a £13.50 meal, which is a lot for a burger and fries. It's like buying a roast dinner but if you want the potatoes you have to pay £2 extra. You can't have one without the other, in my opinion anyway. I'll be back many times I'm sure, and I look forward to seeing (and tasting) them improve as they go along. If you like BBQ and burgers, definitely give this place a whirl. Cheers.

Burgers from the freezer. Nothing on the menu relates to a smoke house or pit grill. More like after school 'quick tea' from the 90's

This was my fifth visit to one of my favourite restaurants. I deliberately travel out of my way to…read moreeat here. The restaurant has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and serves up an American-style BBQ menu. Portion sizes are big and the quality of the meat is never in doubt. On this visit I discovered their chicken wings, which have to be the best chicken wings I've had in the UK, and I'm struggling to remember any wings sampled in the U.S. that would beat them! The secret is definitely in the coating - I'm just gutted I didn't discover them sooner! Their southern fried chicken burger is my favourite burger from here, however unfortunately on this occasion they served it with blue cheese on top rather than the regular cheese I asked for. No problem though, they were more than happy to make a fresh burger which was just as delicious as always. The Surf, Bird & Turf Combo and BBQ Ribs are also great choices. My biggest plus about this place though is their fries; the best fries I've ever eaten. Consistently awesome on every visit, beautifully crispy and well-seasoned. Big 5 stars from me as I've had 5 fantastic meals here, and they have Brahma on tap which is a bonus.

Love, Love, Love this place for BBQ! We came in and the waiter asked if we could wait a bit since we did not have reservations; I said well, we have not eaten all day! He was like wait right here, and in two minutes he had us seated with Ellie serving us drinks and food! Service was epic! Highly recommend!!!

It's disappointing when you come to write a review for a new restaurant having not eaten the food,…read morebut our first experience of Spitfire was so poor, I just had to get it off my chest! We arrived at 6.25pm and were told that there was no seating outside and that we'd have to sit in, which we were happy with. It was so hot outside, it was actually a relief to sit in the shade. It was about 10 minutes before someone came over with menus and we were left to browse through a decent selection of food and drinks (though perhaps a little on the pricey side). When Steve, our waiter, came back, my first choice of a bottle of Peroni wasn't available, so I went for wine. My first choice of food also wasn't available, so I was left to make a second choice. Another few minutes passed and we finally put in our food order. Steve came with the drinks and we settled down for a chat and a spot of people-watching (by now, it's about 6.45pm). Perhaps we were so consumed with our conversation, we didn't notice how much time had passed until my partner noticed the people behind us being served (they came in after us). We gave them the benefit of the doubt, casting an eye to the kitchen (which was within touching distance) and hoped for the best. We let five minutes pass before we decided to call it a night, finding Steve and letting him know that we'd just be paying for our drinks. It was 7.30pm when we left. It's a shame to get a poor experience on a first visit to a new place, but Steve was apologetic, saying our drinks were on the house. He also looked disappointed, so credit to him. He obviously cares, but whoever's ordering the food and whoever's making it need to get their act together, or else this will be another closed Harbourside restaurant within a year.
