I brought my snowboard in to get it waxed and to get a raised bump shaved down. As soon as I presented it to the fella behind the counter, he told me that from the looks of it, I can save the money and easily tackle it myself. I'm not used to that kind of honesty these days! He even gave me a few pointers on what materials I should use and suggested a few youtube videos. I literally went next door to the hardware store, picked up what I needed for under $5, went home and did it myself. All it took was a razor blade, some super glue, an ice-cold beer and I was done! While there, I noticed some really cool hoodies, surf boards galore (even some nicely priced used ones in the back), and a ton of dope skateboard kicks. I haven't said the words "dope" or "kicks" in quite a long time (especially in the same sentence) but having stepped foot in this pretty hip skate/surf shop definitely brings it out of you. I had a reservation for a 10am surf board + wetsuit rental. Whoever was supposed to show up was too hungover and didn't send anyone else until 11:20am. We called multiple times but no one picked up and we had no option to leave a message. Also messaged and called via Instagram. We got in and they told us they didn't do any wetsuit rentals and did not have ANY women's wetsuits available to sell. Planned our whole weekend around surfing this morning and our whole day was wasted. On top of that, they couldn't even refund us right away because it was done online. Horrible management and horrible experience, do not recommend at all. read more

I've been coming here since I was in High School. Definitely have everything you'll need for your session and more. Overall I would say prices on boards and wetsuits isn't the best. But, they tend to have good sales on the clothing from time to time. They also carry some brands that are local and NY surf scene inspired which is cool to see if you're from the area. My experience with the staff is that they're friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I'm a fan overall. read more

I'm a newbie surfer, so I can't tell you enough about gear and selection. What I can tell you is, this is the Go To shop in Long Beach, LI. The guys are all super nice, and they were great at helping me find a Wet Suit. I was a little nervous I wouldn't fit into anything but they got me a selection of suits to try. The price I paid seemed very reasonable in comparison to the prices I saw online. They staff there were totally friendly and encouraging. Gave me and my son a ton of stickers. I'll definitely shop there the next time I'm out that way. read more

wow, im like 10 years too late in writing this. Unsound has been a home for all us long beach locals for many years since when they were a small shop half the size. I surf a ton sure, but i actually get most of my clothes here too. always a really cool thought out collection of stuff. great jeans. and of course everything you need for surfing. mike and dave have been keeping it real for a long time, backing local groms, survived the storm, and always put our community first. this is the kind of place you feel great about spending your money in, or getting someone a gift certificate cause you know it just goes right back to LB, surfers supporting surfers supporting locals. how retail should be. thanks for being there! read more

I've lived in Long Beach my whole life & I've seen stores come & go but Unsound is a landmark. Dave & Mike (owners) are the most personable, friendliest, chillist surfer dudes out there. They greet & talk to everyone who walks through the door. They are very knowledgable about gear, equipment & offer top suggestions. They have never steered me wrong. They always hook it up. They treat their locals well. The selection of products is always trendy, new, fresh, top of the line & stellar. They are very understanding when it comes to exchanges or product warranty. They host surf competitions all the time & have always gotten a great turnout & great reviews from everyone. They are a big part of our community. I recently have been part of a committee building a new skatepark in Long Beach & Unsound has shown support by coming to the city council meetings & spreading the word by posting on their social media pages & in the store. They also host music shows & art exhibits in their store to help promote local artisit. They are active community members & a lot of groms look up to them. Show the love & stop in. read more

They really fixed up the store good after Hurricane Sandy. It looks like a skate shop located in California. Friendly staff and they set up my skateboard with no problems. Very impressed with what they did with the store. I recommend going there for skate and surf products as well as they have a wide selection. read more

Bad service!! Unfortunately these guys do not care about service or customers for which I have been for several years. I've had a few little issues with gear I brought from them in the past that broke but let it slide as they were pretty minor but recently I had organized a repair job on one of my favorite board, they totally miss treated me making me come in when the board was not finished (2hrs travel time each way), organizing me to meet up with the repair guy who was a no show. In the end I just took my board back unfixed. These guys are not invested in the surf community, my advice is go somewhere else that will look after you. Surfing is for life and there are plenty of good people out there to help you, just not these guys. Aloha! read more

Unsound is such a great place with great merchandise. The problem; the people who work there. My family foolishly comes in each year we come from out of state ) hoping that someone will acknowledge our presence. Alas, the staff is just way to cool to offer that extension of kindness to anyone outside their community. This year, the same, but far worse. When we came in, there were four people talking around the counter in the middle of the store. At least the one woman smiled, but the 3 remaining men did not even look up, there were way too many things for them to discuss. No one asked to assist or even flipping said "hello". My husband asked for help with boards and one of the men did come from behind the counter, and then returned back to the tea party behind the counter. This is the thing, all were talkative to the locals they knew in between (one man sat behind the counter the whole time either talking to those he knew or on his phone) but completely ignored any other potentially paying customer. Bottom line, surfers can be snobs too, Amazing this is carried out in a place of business. By the way, we found Long Beach Surf Shop a hell of a lot nicer and helpful. Guess where we are going from now on? read more
