My background:
I have been living at this apartment building for a year and some change now. My occupation is student, and my budget is low. Many who live here probably are in a similar situation and are looking for value since all utilities are included in your rent. Despite the minimal research, that I have done before moving in, that painted a bleak picture of this place, my experience so far has been positive.
Price:
If I can remember correctly, there are four configurations for the studio apartments. I have the most basic model which I was paying 575 a year ago. Now, I am paying 600 not including the renter's insurance of 10 bucks a month...I am guessing this place increases rent every year? I was also not charged renter's insurance when I moved in and was not warned about this. When I questioned the logic of this, the response was that they needed to stay competitive which I am not sure of the logic to this, but then again, I am not in the real estate business in downtown Cleveland. What people pay here would be pricey if it didn't include all utilities. The utilities that are including are cable, internet, water, and electricity. It's pretty luxurious to have cable and internet including. Parking may or may not be free...
Staff:
The manager does her best to maintain order in this building, and tries to solve any problems that residents may have. This company has one maintenance guy and one janitor. Both try their best to make this building functional and clean, and I believe it shows. One skill many residents wish the maintenance guy possessed is fixing the internet when it goes down.
Condition:
The building looks relatively new from the outside to the inside. Nothing is out of place. I am guessing that this building is mostly constructed of brick since I cannot hear what my neighbors are doing unless I step outside which I absolutely appreciate. Sound is kept to a minimum.
"Feel":
The hallways and lobby are quiet which is very much appreciated. When I first walked into a hallway, I was reminded of the dorms back in college but without name tags on doors and people having their doors open. With that being said, the community in this building is minimal. If the coffee shop ever finally opens, I can finally perhaps meet more residents here. The coffee shop will also bring a lot more business to the company.
Positives:
Utilities are included in rent
Quiet
relatively sound-proof rooms
gated
security
Negatives:
internet can be finicky
price of rent can be debatable against value
lack of community
small rooms but the name says "studio" so...
Who I would recommend University Studios to:
students
people on a budget
people who appreciate value
