Licensed Vocational Nurse working towards her RN, MSN until I finally got so exhausted & beaten-down by the revolving "PRE-REQUESITES SWINGING DOOR", where the College changed the required courses to enter eligibility "mode" to apply to enter the RN Program @ none other than the crookedness College this side of crooked; San Joaquin Delta College, where I obtained my LVN Graduation Certificate, after successfully completing my pre-requisite's for the LVN & RN Program, successfully & ethically... Now how is this relevant to crafting this exclusive, for Yelp! ONLY review of Ross Dress for Less? You may be, pondering; or not..... Well, it's not really relevant but as a nurse; nurses absolutely MUST TAKE CARE OF THEIR BACKS & FEET... Now this is where the review begins.... Several months ago, I had 2 Ross gift-cards I needed to use and I was in a pinch, as to desperately needing a solid, long lasting (if at all possible) set of "sneaker shoes"... Extremely frustrating interaction with Manager Perla and Associate Jay…read more I had over 20 pieces of children's clothing along with toys and had already waited in the regular checkout line for about five minutes because most of my items had security sensors. Associate Jay repeatedly directed me to use self-checkout. I specifically told him that most of my items had sensors and asked if he was sure, and he responded, "Yes, I can help you." So I followed his direction and rang up my entire purchase, which was over $230. During the process, Perla appeared overwhelmed while assisting her team member during the rush. She then told me that self-checkout is for 10 items or less. My issue is: if that is the policy, why was I repeatedly directed to self-checkout by your associate after I specifically pointed out how many items I had and that they had sensors? I was perfectly fine waiting for a regular register. What made the interaction even more frustrating was that Perla made the comment and then walked away without even allowing me the opportunity to respond or explain that I had been directed there by her own associate. The situation could have been handled with basic communication and professionalism. Instead, I was made to feel like I had done something wrong for simply following an employee's instructions. Very disappointing customer service and poor management of the situation.

But something that recently happened to me there has me very upset. Shortly before closing I went into the store to quickly look for an item and right away I heard the announcement that the store would be closing in five minutes. I looked around and saw no other shoppers so I took my purse from the cart and left. Unfortunately my wallet accidentally slipped out of my purse and stayed in the cart. A few minutes after I left I realized my wallet was missing and immediately went back. The doors were already locked, but after my knocking, two employees, 1 male, 1 female, came to the door. I told them through the door that a few minutes ago I accidentally left my wallet in the cart I had been using and asked if they could please check it. They glanced briefly on the floor but did not check the cart, even though I said that I had just been there. The female employee told me through the locked doors that I had to come back the next day. I explained I'm from out of town, I was just leaving and wouldn't be in town the next day but she still wouldn't look for my wallet which I knew was in the last cart on the cart stand and she was standing right next to it. With no other choice I went back the next morning and the same employee (later identified as "Katie") that was talking to me through the door the night before, was unlocking the doors and opening up. She told me she found my wallet which had been put in the back safe. A manager with red hair then returned it to me. When I got to my car and looked inside I discovered that $160+ in cash was missing. I went back in the store and spoke to "Katie", who said she had opened my wallet "to see if it was something for sale." She showed no concern about the missing cash. The manager "Jennifer" was right there and did not address the issue. This situation is very upsetting, especially because I had returned within minutes the night before and that my wallet had been in employee possession. As the last customer in the store before closing, I believe my wallet was handled solely by store staff. To the employee who said she found my wallet: That money was for my six-year-old granddaughter's birthday gift that I promised her. The next day on her birthday she was in tears, she had her heart set on it. After years of supporting and donating to this store, I never thought something like this would happen. Because this situation involves missing cash while my property was in the possession of store employees, I expect to be contacted regarding the reimbursement of the missing cash, exactly $162. Also for documentation purposes I have filed a police information report regarding the missing cash. This location you can tell is a bit older version of what they build them like now, but they made the building a bit too small. The food court pickup line is on the left, I'm guessing so it's not in the way of people leaving after checkout. But it backs up into where the tables are if people want to sit and eat. They've also got an issue with where some of the stacks of items are, IE protein, other items, etc being too close to the checkstands. The customers backup to the stacked products when the lines are long, kind of like the Fremont location. Still though, Costco is the place to get a lot of great stuff for a great price, and gas at the best price. Can't be beat.

If the issue is that stores are short-staffed, that's understandable--but it shouldn't come at the expense of the customer experience. Costco has built its reputation on value and excellent service. You can do better, and your customers expect better.
