She is the first functional medicine doctor that I have seen and my experience so far have been very, very positive. While I've been interested in trying functional medicine for a while, it could seem a bit complicated in some ways and there are many directions and things one could try for various reasons. Thankfully, Dr. Leary-Chang is an exceptional communicator. She takes the time that is needed to clearly explain things, as well as being a careful (and empathetic) listener (I feel that she has a very clear understanding of my health situation and ANY key factors that could be playing a role). So, she talked with me to develop some priorities and sketch some realistic cost/benefit analyses for each plan of action. In other words, I felt informed but never pressured in the slightest to pursue any plan (for example, if I might be unsure about something, or something may not be financially comfortable/feasible at the time). Again, those types of factors are things she has taken into account when working with me. I wanted to wait until I had a few months on a stable regiment (and to have more time working with her and the clinic) before reviewing, and thankfully, everything has been positive so far. I have noticed clear positive changes in my health (visible and objective - i.e., not just that I 'feel' better, which I do, but I wanted some 'data' (as much as a single patient could note)) and I am looking forward to further progress. (I will update this review in a few months if anything changes that could be relevant.) I was able to book an appointment within a week, which was very convenient. The front desk is very friendly, prompt, and polite. To a point where I felt service I was receiving was noticeably high quality. They also require that all patients wear a mask during these times, which I appreciated. The place is not very big, so every time I went, I did not have to worry about being close to others and did not notice any other patients waiting. After discussing with Dr. Anderson about what my issues were, he took the time to explain to me what the potential issues could me, which I really appreciated. They ran some X-rays on the spot, and after a few minutes, Dr. Anderson took me to his computer where we went over his thought process of what I had. He laid out 3 options for me without being pushy about any. I decided to go with an MRI next (since my bones seemed fine). When I came for my follow-up appointment, Dr. Anderson showed me the MRI on his computer and walked me through his thought process of what he saw. He laid out the options of either more PT or speaking to a surgeon. We talked it through and I've decided to now go see a surgeon since PT wasn't working. He made a point to refer me to someone who he felt wasn't going to push surgery on me and look all of the information before making a decision, which I appreciated. I was told "He does not diagnose things comprehensively like that. You have to make an appointment for one body part at a time." That seemed odd, but his online profile sounded so wonderful that I decided to continue. Long story short, this office views things very very rigidly and compartmentalized. The receptionist seems to have oppositional defiant disorder and that's a reflection on the person who hired her, to me. In fact, she verbally chastised me, at length, not once, but twice, for trying to follow the city's COVID-19 restrictions to keep other patients safe when my daughter was sick. Apparently it was an inconvenience for her. That attitude really concerned me as I want a doctor who is looking out for everyone's best interest, not only their own interests. I never did get a helpful diagnosis in the end. I am sure she will fight this review, too. LOL.

I initially sought help from another sports medicine doctor who ordered an MRI but ultimately told me the pain was "in my head" and that I just needed to deal with it. That experience left me feeling discouraged and hopeless. Thankfully, I was later referred to Dr. Grant Garcia, and my experience with him was completely different. During my first visit, Dr. Garcia reviewed the same MRI and immediately identified the issue: significant cartilage damage that the previous doctor had missed. It turned out I had damaged and was missing all the cartilage between my femur and patella. Dr. Garcia walked me through my options with compassion and clarity, and together we decided on MACI--a procedure where they take my own cartilage, grow it in a lab, and use it to repair the damaged area. I had the surgery a year ago, and it has truly changed my life. The pain is completely gone, and I'm able to run again! Dr. Garcia gave me hope when I needed it most. His expertise, attention to detail, and care for his patients set him apart. I can't recommend him highly enough to anyone suffering from knee pain or sports injuries.

Swedish Ballard e.r. diagnosed some (but not all) of the breaks and had me follow up with dr ruhlman. getting an appointment was easy and they got me in very quickly. for my first visit I chose the Wallingford location, which is very easy to find and access. i arrived approx 10 mins before my appt time, was checked in right away, and was brought back before my official appt time even began! the nurses were friendly and made me feel very comfortable. once i was in the room and all of my vitals were taken, i waited maybe 5 mins for dr ruhlman to see me. he's nice, thorough, has amazing credentials, and found another broken bone that the e.r. had missed and since it was the one causing me the most pain, I almost started crying with relief. he laid out my plan for healing and gave me realistic expectations. the next follow up was in the ballard office and everything there was also smoothe. my only complaint is that sometimes when i've called with a question, i got into a looiiing wait on hold before talking with a human.
