I took my wife here because this is where I bought my guitar and took lessons. They have been in the Northglenn/Thornton for over 25 years, I believe. Very knowledgeable on their products especially since now a days you can "Google" everything. Ok so my wife bought a new guitar from this place on Saturday 8/15/2020. Yesterday as she is practicing one of the strings breaks. For the amount of money we spent here I hope they back their product. MUSICIANS BEWARE, if your a real musician you wouldn't be going there anyway, I was in jam and needed a 5 sec. Truss rod adjustment( which happens alot) the no knowledge worker there said,.....starting at 45 and goes up from there, he said there is probably something major wrong with your Bass. NOW this guy is a true idiot! But it does reflect the kind of chip shop they run, Poor kids going in there for a deal around town and get rail road by some wanna be. AVOID this place, they don't know what they are doing, and they sell low grade instruments.....Go to hackle guitars if u need anything, amazing work and HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING.!!!! read more

I was moving out-of-state, and the day before my flight, my violin case gave out. I went to Universal Music hoping to get one quick. I went on a normal Saturday at 11am. Unfortunately, the store was closed even though their schedule opens at 10am on a Saturday. Because of this inconvenience, I had to go all the way to a different music shop near 88th & Wadsworth. The reason I'm giving three stars and not zero is because I use to goto this store for my musical needs, and their assistance was great but now I'm not so sure. read more

We have been frequenting this store for years and always have a good experience. Both kids rented instruments for school and we have purchased a few. The sales folks always take their time with you ask lots of questions and give through explanations. Last summer my son bought several guitars and an amp, they let him try out several set ups and helped explain the differences. My son wanted to change out the pick up on his guitar, ran into a few issues and when we took it in they were able to walk him through it. All without charge. This is the best place, shopping local for us has meant we got the best customer service. read more

To the two young guns in the store last Thursday night, be careful how you treat your customers. You never know who might be in the store. Dear store owners: careful who you hire to hold down store during the night hours. They clearly don't care if their boss isn't watching. Went in to the store at 4:45 (having previously found out that their repairman leaves at 5pm) on a Monday to have my flute with a leaky key looked at. The man at the counter immediately looked it over, took out his tool kit, made an adjustment and charged me nothing. It now works fine. I was expecting a minimum charge and was very pleasantly surprised. I will be sure to go back! read more

DO NOT rent student instruments, for school, from here!!! They will tell you one thing, years later after you've paid hundreds of dollars, they'll tell you a completely different story. None of what they say are in their contract. They act like $750 is nothing. "You've only paid $750," is what they'll say to you, sarcastically. We were told years ago that we'd get a brand new full size violin, nothing fancy but the basic models. We thought that was a fair deal. Now that my daughter is ready for the full size and we finished paying off the full amount, they told us that she can only get a used one and we have to pay an extra$325 for a cheap student model, or $700 for a nice one. There is no refunds and if you don't buy their instrument, you lose out on the entire amount already paid. What a scam!! I will make sure my children's school district will never get screwed over like me! read more

Was gonna write a story but would rather just pinpoint the issues we encountered, but a briefing of what took place, my wfie took in her violin to have a string restrung, she was advised that it would take some time and that she'll be receiving a phone call when it was ready. 1). 2 weeks have passed by and no phone call 2). Violin was out of tune when she picked it up, apparently a socket had came loose 3). Was advised again that she'll be getting a phone call when it was fixed, 4). Another 2 weeks pass and no phone call, she called them and asked to speak with Linda (person who my wife dealt with from the beginning). Guy who answered said she was busy and for her to call back. Upon calling back 10min later, Linda had gone to lunch. 5). Finally able to get of hold of Linda, my wife was told that they dont call out to the customer? Overall the customer service was terrible!!!! read more

A great old school music store. Far removed from the box stores, Universal Music is a great example of you get what you pay for. The staff is friendly and the services offered are vast. I have been taking bass lessons for about 6 months with Ryan and have had multiple instrument repairs completed by their repair tech. I am very pleased with this shop and the service I have received! Old fashion music shop. One of the only music shops in this part of town. Kind people. Good music teachers. It is not a place for super professional musicians. But, they do fine for students, beginners and so on. Lot of kids from local schools take music lessons here. They are helpful as much as the can be. Salt of the earth people. For my kids' need , they do fine. read more

You cannot go wrong with Universal Music. I have been a loyal customer for 4 years now. Not only do I go there for my personal musical needs but also for the needs of the schools I teach at. They give the best deals and the insight and knowledge of the music shop is unparalleled. If you are local for that local music shop then look no further!! Universal Music is my favorite local music shop in the Thornton and Greater Denver area. The staff here is very knowledgeable and I always feel good about my purchases. I have bought guitars, amps, pedals, sheet music and accessories from here. The staff treats you kindly and always has time to explain any questions you may have about anything music related. *Ryan, is hands down my favorite employee here - but they are all great. You can also rent equipment and instruments here and their prices are IMO the best in town! Plus, if they do t have what you are looking for they can order it or if they can't they aren't shy to help direct you how to get whatever you want in your hands. I have been shopping here and taking lessons from Chuck Fisher (best guitar teacher EVER!!!) for almost three years now and I will never go anywhere else. So if you're looking for a place that you can call "you're music shop" (as I do) this is the place and well worth the drive if you happen to live on the south side of town. I just had the best experience at Universal Music! If I could give this location more than 5 stars I would. My brother was in town for a few days, and he wanted to find his 1st guitar. He is working at a boyscout camp for the summer and had a very limited budget (less than $100). We decided to spend a day looking at all the music stores we could think of. We were closest to Universal Music and so we stopped there first. We walked in and it looked well taken care of and with a good selection of all things musical. My brother started looking at some of the guitars and a staff member came over to see if we needed help. My brother described what he was looking for (a first time beater guitar, for campfires and tent life) and the staff member (salesman?) was fantastic. Not just pointing at a guitar, though he did point out a few and used them as examples, but telling him what to look for and how to recognize it (i.e. composite top vs. solid wood top and how they hold up under different circumstances). And what to avoid for his situation. And common problems to avoid when buying a specifically used guitar. And... a wealth of information! All of this knowing that they didn't have anything in the store that was probably in my brothers budget. (they had a couple that were at the top end of the budget, but we were determined to deal hunt) He sent us on our way armed with useful knowledge. We proceeded to several other locations. Guitar Village where no one even said hello, let alone offered any help. Pawn shops full of sleazy sales people. We ended up finding a second hand guitar well within budget that my brother bought, taking all of the information that was given to us at Universal Music into account. Wanting to buy new strings for the guitar my brother decided he wanted to spend his money at Universal Music (of course!) and so we went back. The same staff member was there and asked how our search went. My brother showed him the guitar and he gave a thorough once over, pronouncing it good. When he told my brother he picked out a good guitar, I'm not sure I've ever seen my brother look so proud. We bought the strings and the staff member offered to restring the guitar for a little extra and of course we did. He took such good care of the guitar (and was so fast) it was fun to watch! So there is a long story to demonstrate just why I was so pleased with this place! Their customer service was excellent! What a great way to treat a young man who wanted to learn! What a fantastic first time experience for someone new to music! Their inventory was well displayed, in good condition, and a great selection. They offer lessons, and if their teachers are anything like the people who work the sales floor I can only see it being a great place to learn! I know in the future where I will be buying anything music related! I almost want to start playing myself so I have a reason to support this local business. read more

Great Mom and Pop shop. This is a family of musicians that run this place.They have the rock gear and school band stuff. Great atmosphere, service, and prices. Check them out when you are up North. Its a nice break from dimbulbs at the GIANT mega guitar Emporium. read more

Amazing! I live in Colorado Springs, and was looking for a particular guitar. None of the shops down here had what I was looking for so I started calling around Denver. Universal happened to have what I was looking for, so I made the drive up. Jeff the guitar guy was great! Not just some guy selling guitars. He knew his stuff, was very informative, and helpful. Surprisingly good neighborhood music store with some interesting vintage guitars recently "found" in the basement. The store appears to cater mainly for the younger players and has the selection of band instruments you'd expect to find in a store this size. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and as was mentioned in the previous review, it's better to support a locally-owned business than the big box stores. read more

Horrible costumer service in general. Rented a viola from here and they never told us it was rent to buy. Brought my flute in and one of the workers out his nasty mouth on my flute. He was also rude when I went to go buy guitar picks from there. I need my flute fixed but I don't really want to go back there. read more
