I'm really not much of a bowler myself, but every so often I find myself at a bowling alley how I ended up here. After being cooped up for months, and stuff reopened due to the pandemic, I needed to get out and do something besides go to the grocery store. My date suggested we come here, since we still can't eat out or do other fun activities. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised at how well maintained this place was. Why? Because not all bowling alleys are created equal. This one falls into the category of "nice" because I didn't feel like I needed a tetanus shot when leaving. There's plenty to see and do here, including video games, a bar with food, and current technology for the scoring screens. Seating areas at the lanes were newer and in good shape, along with a nice selection of balls to choose from. I didn't get a chance to check out the bathrooms, but the staff here was really professional, friendly and wearing polo shirts. I like that. It made me feel like they actually take their job seriously and not a bunch of underpaid teenagers who don't actually care. Our game was fun, and the prices can't be beat. For two sets of shoes and one game, it was a whopping $15. NICE! We would have played more games but decided one game was enough for us. Also, staff was decent about encouraging people to keep their masks on. While we were waiting for our initial check in, another bowler came up to ask a question and the staff motioned politely for him to put his mask over his nose. The guest complied and it made me feel better. Overall, this place is pretty nice and I would easily drive here again to bowl in a heartbeat for all of the reasons listed above. No stinky outdated alleys, drink options (even though it's not open due to covid) friendly staff and great prices. Let me start by saying I did not bowl, or even go past the front area. I was waiting in traffic and I had to go potty. I had waited through so many lights that I couldn't possibly hold it anymore!! It was a busy Friday night but I got front row parking. I literally ran into the building and honestly probably looked like someone was chasing me.. I went left, I don't know why? But as I shuffled past some small children I almost asked where the bathroom was this man crossed my path.. I was like "hey, where's the bathroom?" This man was my angel that night. He was headed that way so told me to follow.. thankfully not too far. Sweet Jesus, my butt hit the toilet and I thank him for not making me a mess. I sat there for like 5 minutes. Thankfully nobody entered because I was making all kinds of noise in relief that I made it. The best part? As I was walking out, cool as a cucumber, trying not to be seen.. there is a lip to the automatic door and as I came over the threshold I fell. Hard. Ouch. I sat there for a second and all I could do was laugh!! These 2 young ladies turned around because I was not graceful about my fall. Ouch. Asked me if I was ok and if I needed help getting up.. I just sat there and laughed and said no, I'm ok. Got up and as I passed them I told them it was a long ways down.. and I'm so tall. Rented the upstairs private hall for our wedding reception and could have not been happier. The price was right and it was elegant. Private full sized lanes but w/mini-bowling, video games, ping-pong, darts you name it. Had my favorite karaoke company DJ it and as a former "rockstar" from California, you know singing was a must. Our private bar tenders were on their A game and everyone had a blast. It was rockstar themed, so red ropes, carpet, photo backdrops, backstage passes and tickets for invites. I wish I could marry her again. Great job! And trust me...as weird as a bowling alley sounds for a reception...the upstairs is another world. A true million dollar remodel. Highly recommend. Ah good old Froling Lanes. Well, that's what it was called when I bowled here 45 years ago. Boy was it great. Saturday morning leagues with a bunch of kids. My brother and I would walk here, about a mile, with our bowling ball and shoes. It was a good workout I guess. Those winter walks were harsh but we loved it. I became a pretty good bowler. 170ish average as a teenager. Not too shabby. Do they still have those hot, crunchy French fries in the vending machines. Boy, those were good. I used to hang out here quite often when I was in high school, but less frequently (although still more frequent than now) in my early college years. I think it was only a few years ago that they had the Thursday night specials. Not sure if they still have that. Anyways the place is no longer your old Universal Lanes. They've got a new sign, and the interior has almost been completely renovated. They've got a new bar, new top-of-the line kitchen, new pool area, and a new hangout/karaoke place in the back. The finishing touch? Flatscreens. Oh yeah. I was back here a few days ago with some friends, and I was really surprised at how...empty the place was. And we went on a Thursday night too! I'm guessing people dont know much about the new renovations yet (or maybe I dont know much about the time the crowds come in yet), but I figured this place deserves a new review. It was only a year ago I think that they made the changes. The menu items look and sound delicious (but I am on a diet), so I will come back and try them soon. They have new pool tables in the front $8 an hour, or $1 pool tables in the back ($1 per game, I think, I didn't pay). Looks great, was clean, the guy who worked at the front didn't try to hassle us with specials or deals. What more could I ask for? They even gave me shoes with velcro straps! The only thing that they have not improved is the bowling computers. They are SEVERELY outdated. It seems strange playing on these old computers when the rest of the place is almost brand new. I'd come back here to play again, since it looks way nicer now. And if someone who works at Universal Lanes is reading this, please, PLEASE (for the love of God) change your horrible-looking stars-and-planets carpet. Please. read more

I was looking for a spot with pool and a bar in the area and my friend recommended this place. There were 2 tables and some video games. The staff was friendly and the place was lively. The place is older and has been around for a while. It was not the greatest but it was cool. The price point was not too bad. $19 for 2 hours of playing. Fun place all the way around. Five stars - no complaints here. This was my first time here. My husband said he used to come here as a kid, but he instantly noticed this place went through some awesome renovations. We played two games of bowling, three games of pool table, and three games of electronic darts. The bar area is brand new. Their margaritas were delicious! Overall, this was a great date night spot. I have been going to this bowling alley for years now primarily because its fairly close to where I live. The place is quite large in size housing over 12+ lanes. They have a bar area with full service. The customer service is good all the people there are nice and accommodating. My friends and I have never had an issue or complaint during our visits aside from the fact that it gets packed during the league season, but hey that is not in their control. They have enough space to host some parties and events as well. The shoes are fairly clean but do look old. Socks cost roughly $3 a pair incase you do not have any on and are white in color. When we complained, we were told that if we had ordered a regular pizza and would have to pay extra for the bread pizza. I will never order food from this place again. this place is awesome. i came here on a wednesday night and it was a lot of fun. the place was pretty empty, as they tend to be during the summer, and they had a summer special going on that was really cheap... i think it was like five dollars for three games or something ridiculous like that. they also have a surprisingly fancy lounge area that really looks like a lounge. it was probably the fanciest thing i've seen in a bowling alley. i remember the bar being a pretty good deal too for pitchers of beer. the bartender was really awesome and friendly! i guess business was slow too so he might have just been bored. anyway i highly recommend this place if you're looking for something fun to do or a date or a group outing, especially if it's rainy outside. i hope i get a chance to come back some time. especially if it's busier. i have a feeling really interesting people like to show up here. read more

Not the best experience. Seriously need to upgrade the balls. Only 3 lanes of open bowling and there were zero balls weighing less than 12 lbs and even the 12lb balls were so huge and meant for large hands. The pool was over priced. Hands down the beat bowling alley I've been to. On the 18th of November 2018 I gave my son who turned 4 and my father who turned 64 a double birthday party and from the time I spoke with Vinny over the phone to book the party I was extremely pleased! The day of the party Vinny was off but Ryan was an absolute angel he made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed. He constantly checked on us making sure we had enough pizza, drinks, serving plates, cups and all. His team who brought the delicious pizza out were awesome as well. The price??? I couldn't beat it for the service we received. My family was happy and the bathrooms were newly remodeled and super clean. I am 7 months pregnant no the fact that Ryan made sure I had no stress was just a blessing. Before we got in the door good, Ryan greeted me and my husband and asked us if we had cakes and ice cream because they had a freezer to keep it nice and cold. I mean the things I forgot Ryan and his team was on top of it! The staff is very rude at this bowling alley. The server made my drink and it was straight water. I decided to walk up to the bar and talk to the guy behind the counter and asked him if can switch my drink and he said no since I took a sip out Of it. I asked for a manager and the manager was sitting down, and said to me sorry i cant help you. That is terrible customer service. It was a lousy 6 dollar drink that was filled with water instead of liquor. Bad for business. The manager was also rude and would not make me another drink. The place smells like mildew, it needs roof repairs. Stay away from this place Jim, you were sitting right next to your bar tender. You should not lie about this matter. You were shaking your head at your bar tender. You said please excuse the bar tender he is having a bad day. Your drinks are watered down to save money and the place stinks inside. I bowled 4 games with my son. My 3 week old spare ball came back with a giant gouge out of it, then my son's ball came back with a smaller chunk out. We were bowling on the same lane (12) and the counter worker said "oh there could be a nail in the gutter", but no offer to repair. I told him that I was expecting it to be fixed and he kept the balls to get repaired. I just picked them up and my ball looks bad but the only response I got was "it's smooth, it should be fine". I asked what else they could do, they said nothing. Very disappointed to say the least. Now I have a new spare ball that looks bad and no help. I was a long time customer, doesn't matter. read more

I've been going here weekly, on Tuesday $1-night, for the last couple weeks. To be fair, I'll list both pros and cons, but in general I'd say this place is pretty awesome. Pros: Sebastian (one of the workers) is incredibly helpful. He's a sweet kid and seems to like his job enough to actually care what happens. He's attentive and good at his job. The specials ($1 beers, $1 games, $1 shoes) can't be beat. The bathrooms are incredibly clean, there are tons of bowling balls (never running low), and the pool tables are PRISTINE. Cons: Every other worker besides Sebastian seems hostile, immature, or ridiculous. One worker was getting wasted with patrons the first night we went up, after admitting to me he was in high school. So obviously that's a problem. I, personally, have waited at the bar for over 30 minutes for someone to help me. I've had workers get drinks for someone sitting with me and then walk away without asking (or giving me time) for my drink order. The carpet is filthy and needs a good cleaning, but it's a bowling alley so that's to be expected. Overall, if you go in and can have Sebastian waiting on you, you're aware of the flaws but accept them as "character", and you only want to spend $10 and have a whole night of drinks and games, it's totally worth it. We're going to keep returning every Tuesday until the deals run out or until Sebastian realizes he's too good of a worker for a Warren bowling alley! Oh, one more quick note - last night we did hear that a couple cars had their catalytic converters stolen IN THE PARKING LOT. I cannot confirm the validity of this, but it did appear to happen to at least one person who was under their car inspecting it (and my fiance looked as well). Not sure if this parking lot is unsafe, if this is a fluke, or if this person had it coming, but that's something to consider. Lock your doors, park by a window so you can see if someone is messing with your stuff. read more

i've bowled in this alley for 4 years as part of metro detroits friday night mixed league. its a gay and lesbian league on friday nights. terrible name huh? you think a gay league would come up with something better like hershey express league or gay unicorns or something. but no, we get some terrible throw away name. anyway, this alley has been very kind to our league. they have allowed the league to grow and have given us pretty much carte blanche with the friday night karaoke. why the 3 stars you say? its not because of the 3dollar 22oz drafts. its not because of the nice manager and the pretty cool staff. its the smell. i have to go home and after drinking large amounts of beer and remember to not leave my clothes in the same room. they smell that bad. its this odd combo of fried foods, stale beer, BO and an ashtray. also the lanes aren;t always in the greatest shape. if they get rid of their horrible stinking stink, i will change my rating. love, juston read more

Took kids today for the $25 special. Was not expecting too much but was quite impressed. The fella at the front desk was friendly, accommodating, very pleasing. Kids had a great time and asked if we can do this weekly. We were one of very few lanes in use so atmosphere was very quiet. Not sure how it is at night or weekends but at 4:00 in afternoon was a great time for kids. Definitely would recommend. It was like that, just with grease.. I'm not sure which is worse. There appears to be newer renovations. The bathroom was clean. The bar was shockingly nice and staffed super friendly people. I took my son for some afternoon bowling after school. Everyone was very friendly and the facility was very clean. The kiddo had a blast and it was reasonably priced. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the arcade. We weren't able to play any of the games because the machines weren't working. We'll definitely be back though. I like to visit when my friends are bowling on the Friday league (mostly gay league btw). The bartender is super nice. The staff that makes the food were great and the beers are cheap. This alley is very nice and clean and updated and the bathrooms are also very clean and smell clean too! I came in to get my bowling ball drilled, and I received amazing, quality service. Marcus was very knowledgeable about his craft, and ensured that I did not just leave with a finished product that I would be happy with, but with one that was perfect for me. The entire process was very in-depth and one-on-one. Marcus educated me on how every part of the process would play into my game, and made sure that I was happy with everything. He made sure that I left with a perfect product, so that I will not run into problems down the line. A very friendly, warm interaction added to the enjoyability of the whole experience. I needed my ball done by the next day, and Marcus told me that he would be able to get it done for me right then if I had a few minutes. I was amazed by the dedication to getting me the ball when I needed it, and his ability to do such a quality job in the short time. Marcus still made sure that the ball was a perfect fit and had me test it out just to be certain that the ball worked perfectly when I was using it. The quality of the job is guaranteed, and after my experience with the quality and thoroughness of the job I can say with complete certainty that I will never be going anywhere else for any work I need done in the future.
