Took my car here because it had good reviews. Made an appointment 2 weeks in advance. When I showed up they had no record of the appointment, still took the car said it would be ready by the middle of the day. They called again and said it wouldn't be ready until later still, when I arrived my car was on the street, the rim had been severely scrapped, damaged. I asked what happened and was not given a good explanation, at which point I was told my car was in the shop and they were still looking at it. Walked back outside and my car was still on the street. It appeared they damaged my car instead of diagnosing it. On top of that told me to my face something that was not accurate. Would not recommend. read more

Universal wanted $165 to run diagnostics on my 2003 Honda Civic. That money would not be credited toward any repairs. They didn't look at car to see what error light was. I went to Budget Tune Lube and Smog on Soscol and they for free pointed out that service soon light was because oil need to be changed. I went to Universal Auto (because the Yelp ratings were so good) as there was a knocking noise coming from the engine when I started up the car. After inspecting my car, I was told I needed almost $7,000. to do THREE repairs. Being overwhelmed by the quote, I took my car to the dealership to verify the problems outlined by Universal Auto. I paid $178 to the dealership to do a complete inspection of my car (which was the same amount I had paid to UA to also do a complete inspection) to identify what repairs were needed and how much they would cost. The dealership also found THREE problems, but only one of them was identified by UA. The quote for that repair from UA was nearly $700., the dealership quote was $139. The two problems they identified were totally different and when I asked about the two repairs identified by UA, the dealership told me they were unnecessary. The repairs they identified totaled $2,700. They told me that those were not critical to the operation of the car and since my car is 13 yrs old and I will be selling it this coming year, advised me against doing them. This reinforces the necessity of getting a second quote. I would have spent $6,300 for work that was totally unnecessary and $700. for a simple repair that should cost less than $150. Boy, was I lucky not to have wasted a LOT of money. Beware of Universal Auto. They tried to pull a fast one on me, but I outsmarted them. read more

The shop has recently moved next to Harbison appliances off of the silverado trail. So glad I was able to find them! I have been swindled and lied to by other auto shops and am always weary when my car needs work. I was relieved to find that The owner is trustworthy, and really wants to do a great job at a fair price. This place is definitely not the stereotypical shop that makes up things that need to be fixed and nickel and dime you. They will do the job right, and honestly. I am so thankful that there are people out there still doing great work. Carmen, the receptionist, is great, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Definitely recommend this place! I took my Mercedes Benz with them, thinking they would be able to fix it since they described what was wrong with my car. My car had continuously began to shut down while driving. The brakes and steering wheel were unresponsive. They told me the problem was the fuel pump and filter and so they changed the fuel pump and the filter. Now I don't think this was the problem with my car because of the following incident. I had to drive to Fremont and that's when all the malfunctions began again. My car broke down 3 times. First on the freeway, the second time as I entered a mountain route which I proceeded to lose control of my car which was terrifying! And the third time in an intersection. This place "supposedly" changed what was wrong with my car and tested my car's safety after the repair. My husband called Jose(the owner) and began to explain my situation. My husband was obviosuly very upset because we thought that my car was safe to drive and repaired. Jose was very unprofessional and rude to my husband as he said that he is not responsible for what had happened to my car and he would not accept my car in his shop even if we have a year warranty for any malfunctions and our receipt. I have the description of the parts they were "supposed" to fix but weren't. Very irresponsible and unprofessional service. Not worth the $500 I lost. read more

very expensive had suspension work done at another shop for 30% less then quoted. also forgot to tighten lug nuts on one of the rims and almost fell off within 2 miles. i guess it happens ?? always check after any service, leason learned. read more
