Two other Hondas and 20 years later, the only thing I can hope for is that Darrel never retires. Sometimes I may take one of my cars in for one thing, and sometimes his staff may find something else wrong that I didn't know about. Then, Darrel will give me his honest opinion if the unexpected problem(s) are requiring immediate attention or expected attention. As long as The Small Car Shop has maintained my vehicles, I've never had one break down and that's important due to my job, the long commutes, and the isolated roads that I somethings drive. Once Darrel's staff repairs a problem, it is fixed. Only one time (in 20 years) that I had to take my car back for something believed repaired, but still needing an additional tweek to the previous repair, and when I returned Darrel quickly made the small adjustment without delay or additional charge. He truly does stand by his work and his word. Since the time that I had moved further away from this location, I still make the long drive to have The Small Car Shop to work on all my cars.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share our experience so others can make an…read moreinformed decision. We brought my daughter's 2014 Ford Focus to this shop because it would not start. After their inspection, we were given an estimate and authorized the repairs they said were necessary. During the process, we were then informed that the clutch also needed to be repaired, which significantly increased the cost. Although this wasn't part of the original estimate, we agreed because we wanted the vehicle repaired correctly and trusted their professional diagnosis. By the time everything they recommended was completed, we had spent approximately $3,700. Unfortunately, after all of those repairs, the vehicle still was not operating properly. We then had the car towed back to the shop because the original problem had not truly been resolved. At that point, we were told the issue was actually the fuel pump. This was incredibly frustrating because after spending thousands of dollars based on their recommendations, another major repair was suddenly needed. It left us questioning whether a thorough diagnostic had been performed in the first place. As a customer, I understand that older vehicles can develop multiple problems. However, when a shop performs a diagnostic and recommends thousands of dollars in repairs, I expect those recommendations to be based on a complete and accurate assessment. Instead, it felt like we addressed one expensive issue after another without ever getting to the root cause. I reached out to the owner in writing, hoping we could have a productive conversation and work toward a reasonable resolution. While I appreciate that they did respond, I was extremely disappointed that there was no acknowledgment of the financial burden this created and no offer of any reimbursement, credit, or goodwill adjustment after we had invested so much money and still ended up with a vehicle that was not repaired. Ultimately, we made the difficult decision not to move forward with the additional fuel pump repair because we had already invested more into the vehicle than it was worth. I encourage anyone considering this shop to ask detailed questions about the diagnostic process, request in detailed writing all testing that has been done.

I saved for a long time to be able to afford the repairs this shop recommended because I genuinely believed they had identified the problem and would get my car back on the road. After their inspection, I was given an estimate and trusted their professional opinion. During the repair process, I was told my clutch also needed to be replaced, which increased the cost significantly. Even though it was much more than I had expected, I agreed because I wanted my car fixed properly and relied on their expertise. In total, I spent around $4,000 (all of my savings) After all of those repairs, my car still wasn't fixed. We had to have it towed back to the shop, where we were then told that the fuel pump also needed to be replaced. another $800. After spending everything I had based on the original diagnosis, I was being told there was yet another major repair needed before I could even drive my car. My mom contacted the owner to explain our concerns and hoped we could come to a reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, there was no offer to reimburse any portion of the repairs or even a goodwill adjustment, despite the fact that we had spent thousands of dollars and still ended up with a vehicle that wasn't running. This experience was incredibly discouraging. Losing all of my savings as a student is something that will take me a long time to recover from. I just wish the diagnostic process had been more thorough so I could have made an informed decision before investing so much money into a car that ultimately remained undrivable. I hope sharing my experience encourages others to ask detailed questions about the diagnostic process, request documentation of the testing that has been performed, and fully understand the potential risks before approving expensive repairs.

But Phil was calm and spent time to answer my questions about my battery warning issue. Seems he has nailed the importance of this small but huge aspect of customer psychology. For me, it's this initial contact that usually seals the deal in the decision to take the next step. Felt very comfortable after speaking to Phil that they would take a good look and confirm what I was experiencing with the car. Most people nowadays are reading up on the symptoms with AI, and a good shop imo assumes this interaction. Phil gave me a very reasonable quote and confirmed my hunches were on track. Took the car in first thing in the morning and spoke with a gentleman (maybe the owner) who took my report . No one rushed me, which is key for me. I understand that time is money, but so is trust. For most people, this is won or lost in the first conversation. It's tough because people are just not happy to begin with when they staring down a hefty bill, no matter what usually. EA Service nailed it. Felt totally comfortable the whole time that the car was in good hands, and they did why they said. Period. The price was below the initial estimate which was nice. Phil also did not up-charge me for a battery he ended up getting/needing from the dealer. Extra nice. For a first time experience I was very pleased, and I am pretty skeptical when it comes to shops generally. Compared to other experiences Phil and the shop hit every mark. Extra points for communication, which again is huge. Gave me back a clean car fixed right. Earned my business, and can't say enough about Phil, who if you read the reviews, is clearly a huge factor in the customer experience. Super good guy and communicator. The whole thing just felt right and only good things to say about the shop and experience . Give them a try for sure. Great job guys -- thank you!
