Mediocre food on economy. Bring your own food otherwise you will have to endure the worst meal of your life.

11-2-22: plenty of passengers waiting in line and nary a staffer to assist. *yawn* 5:24am to Denver.

Obviously hard working g staff are hampered by some procedures United puts in place. plenty of passengers waiting in line and nary a staffer to assist. *yawn* yes, it's oh-dark-30 as they say, and the United required check-in time is ridiculous. Rant over. 5:24am to Denver.

Corona response plan: Fill plane to capacity Yep! The plane was filled to capacity. We flew from SMF to DEN for a change of planes then on to SGF. We took a smaller plane to Branson MO. We have a WorldMark resort there so that will be our home for 4 nights during the Labor Day weekend. We had such a bad experience on our first time flying United that we were hoping for a much better experience this time and, guess what? It was actually better this time. Traveling changes during COVID-19: Boarding fewer customers at a time. After preboarding, the rest of us boarded from the back of the plane to the front. We were given a packet of a sanitizing wipe as we boarded. Snacks and water were provided during the two hour flight. We were also given a choice of soda or juice. When we deplaned we were in groups of five rows at a time so less crowding. We were required to wear masks throughout the entire flight. There were no mechanical issues and we even took off and arrived a little early. Review #1327 updated

And we're off to Houston! See how far forward I am? Had to pay double to get in a closer row. [And Yes, brought my own coffee.]

Crazy Trip From Sacramento To Houston On Cramped Jet SITREP I really miss the 90s when jet-travel meant better customer service, more in-flight amenities, not getting nickeled-&-dimed for every aspect of the flight, etc. etc. etc. THE SETUP If you haven't traveled on United Airlines ("United") recently, not only is: * The extra 2nd carry-on bag monetized; but, * So is the FIRST bag of luggage; and, * So is your boarding group to get onto the jet; AND, * So is your seat position in the jet aircraft itself. Wherever there is a category aspect to air travel (boarding, luggage, seating, aisle vs. windows, etc.), there is now a separate $ dollar-amount attached to it. DOMINO EFFECT This is where traveling United really requires you to cross-reference your entire itinerary. On this specific flight, I had LESS than 45 minutes in a layover to catch my flight - ON United no less - from Houston to Savannah. If the layover had been 2-4 HRS, I could care less about my placement in the boarding group, or where I sat on the plane. But not wanting to miss my next flight, I had to responsibly pop for each and every cost-upgrade from: = (deciding before the flight) to NOT do any checked-in luggage, = to pay $51 to move up from Boarding Group #8 to #4, = to pay another $150 to move - within the SAME class of section still - from Row #24 to Row #8, etc. etc. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/united-airlines-sacramento?userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w All to just make sure I could get my ass off of their plane, and take my ass to their NEXT plane which - because they are masochists - they put at a gate in another terminal practically as far away as they could make it. BANNER WEATHER DAY! No fault of the airline, but WHAT A DAY to travel from East-to-West or West-to-East! There was a storm front system in the Midwest that caused all of the transcontinental aircraft in the U.S. to shoot down to the Houston Traffic Control Area in order to get past the storm. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/united-airlines-sacramento?select=vlf1y8Nw-s0GHm1MZyg68A&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Our flight plan, per se was not one that would have been delayed due to weather directly, but it WAS delayed because of the increased TENFOLD traffic congestion caused by all the other flights hitting Houston. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/united-airlines-sacramento?select=vlf1y8Nw-s0GHm1MZyg68A&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Ce la vie. RETROSPECTIVE Upon some reflection, United IS a reflection of the entire flying industry (save Quantas and SouthWest), and although these are problems in the entire industry, United IS a leader in the industry and bears much responsibility for cheapening the metrics of quality air travel. "It's just lost that loving feeling...." THE LOWDOWN United Flights are such Inconvenient "Conveniences" when taken as a whole. But hey, TWO STARS - for 1. taking off in one piece and for 2. landing in one piece. And do I feel bad about leaving those TWO STARS? Hell no, cause if you check above, that's still above their OVERALL rating. *Zing!*

What I cleaned off of the tray.

This was our first time flying out of Sacramento International Airport on Southwest Airlines with…read morethe new assigned seating, and I couldn't have been happier with how it went. I'll admit I was a little nervous going into it since it's such a change from how Southwest has always done things, but it was surprisingly smooth. Everything felt easy, like they had been doing it this way for years. And honestly, not having everyone rush to line up and grab their seat was such a nice change. We did pay for the upgrade for extra leg room, and it was 100% worth it. It made the whole flight feel more comfortable, especially for a longer travel day. One thing that stood out was the snack selection. There were so many options, from honey or salted pistachios to Oreos, ginger snap or graham cracker cinnamon cookies, and even garlic pretzel twists. Everything we tried was actually really good, which isn't always the case with airplane snacks. I also loved that the cups are now made from bamboo, which felt like a nice, more thoughtful touch. Everything on board felt really clean, and I believe we were on one of the newer 800 planes, which definitely added to the overall experience. Helpful tip: If you're on the fence, the extra leg room upgrade is worth it, and the new seating setup actually makes boarding feel way less stressful. It ended up being a much better experience than I expected, and I'd absolutely do it this way again.

If you are doing assigned seats, why let people move to wherever they want when door closes?…read more What's the point of that. Yes. If theres a row open sure. Im all for it. But I was assigned a middle seat. With Noone at window or aisle. So I sat in my middle seat. And some guy came and sat next to me in the aisle seat, after he already had his seat in the middle. I get it. Trust me I do. But I got told even if the window seat is open I can not move to it because of how the manifest lists passengers and where they are. Sooooooo . Pick a side southwest. Disappointed

I've always received friendly service out of the Sacramento location so no complaints their other airports that's sometimes is a different story, but very rare. Most of my flights are always on time flying out of Sac and I did have one flight that was cancelled 50 mins before boarding and I could either be refunded or put on another flight. I picked the obvious and got boosted to first class for the inconvenience! Fly other airlines, but this is my got to because the fares are usually the most reasonable.

However, while boarding the plane and during my flight I was extremely impressed. This was by far the best flight I had ever experienced. In the past, airline seats were too small, little space, or the accomdating snacks were subpar to those who paid so much for their tickets. However, on this aircraft I was glad to see not only were the seats accomodating to everyone but they were leather lined and also had a head rest that adjusted according to your comfort. Thought of the confort of everyone during the transition of the flight and the recling position offering enough room for everyone. Had excellent and clean aircraft as well as windows to look out of. Not to mention organized aircraft safety instructions. Demonstrating proper use of each step for instruction. And also an assorted snack tray with a variety of options to accomdate each passenger. Only one person in your party needs to do it. Boarding was very slow. They kept on serving the first class section thus blocking our access. I have never been on a plane that boarded so slowly. It gave me time to use the restroom. So that was good. Take off was quick. Once in the air they announced that they are serving a complimentary breakfast sandwich. So even though Alaska has taken them over they still feed coach for free. I believe it's the only airline that still does this. So nice. The staff were really nice. We should be on time arrival . I notice the seats seem closer than before. Just like Southwest. A little tight. I remember them to be more comfortable. Times change and I know they need to make money. At least there was ample room for everyone's carry on. An added plus is that they have Starlink. Its free for all and not bad. We will see the changes Alaska does to them this summer . Planes should just offer that. Probably costs less, tastes better, more food variety and you could probably store more on the plane than the nasty microwave plane food. Volaris for sure is a budget airline-they nickel and dime you for every little thing-we tried to add a bag last minute and boom $150 each way-straight crazy, luckily it was a kid-less trip so carry-ons it was. That being said-the airfares themselves are cheap. They don't offer free refreshments but do offer free water in a cup.You have to purchase sodas or beers-I ended up buying 2 bottle waters and a Diet Coke for around $9-that got me thru a 4 hour flight pretty easily. Planing and De-planing was pretty fun as we had to take a bus to and from the plane then climb up the stairs to the plane out on the airstrip-that always feels more fun for some reason. The seats inside are comparable to the "bidirectional"named airline that recently made news with their change to no more free luggage and assigned seating now, feels very similar in regards to comfort and legroom to that airline. No WiFi on Volaris flights at this time-they do have an entertainment type network you can access during your flight but it costs around $2 to access it. In closing-if you ever find yourself headed to Mexico and looking for a no frills airline experience that will save u a few shuckles-I guess I do recommend Volaris Airlines since I seem to keep using them over and over again. Beats traffic, parking, and other hassles in the city if you prefer not to deal with those things. The driver on the way there was a lot less weird than the one we had coming back to Sac. It took us less than an hour and a half to get to San Francisco from Sacramento, without the bother of parking and traffic. Effortless. Cost was around $13 one way. Our bus wasn't crowded at all. I did a little research and found the Megabus website with a pick up at the 65th Bus station in Sacramento with a drop off in San Francisco on Townsend between 4th and 5th street. That might be a perfect situation for those going to the Giants game as it lets off literally a few blocks from AT&T Park. We chose the 9:30am bus with a 11:30am arrival in Sn Francisco. Research noted that you cue up in line as most (but not all) seats are first come first served. We arrived 30 min ahead and were 5th and 6th in line. The bus arrived at 9:10and we were on by 9:10. Reserved seats can be purchased for an additional $1 fee as well. There are Table and front row seats for $5 or $7 more as well. Bus is clean, comfortable. We sat on the upper level, with a nice view. The only negative for me is that the bus ride is "soft". What I mean is that our bus had that Cadillac soft rolling feel and was slowly rocking up and down with every bump in the road. So for those of you that get car sick easily, you have been forewarned. Reservations are done online, and the process is incredibly easy. For $9 plus the $1 reservation fee for this trip, I found it a great deal. Plus not having to drive, free wi fi, no toll made the trip well worth it. Food is allowed on bus, and there is a restroom on board as well. I'll be back to use on the next day game for the Giants!
