Remember when we used to go places? The time right before the Rona we took a megabus to the city, and it went well all things considered. I would do it again. Beats traffic, parking, and other hassles in the city if you prefer not to deal with those things. The driver on the way there was a lot less weird than the one we had coming back to Sac. No talking to herself and to traffic, etc. My charger outlet worked. I was happy. It took us less than an hour and a half to get to San Francisco from Sacramento, without the bother of parking and traffic. Effortless. Cost was around $13 one way. Our bus wasn't crowded at all. Were they Amish? We never did find out. The comfortable air conditioning vents helped with the armpit smell that wafted from...places... It doesn't pick up over at the bus hub on 65th anymore (University/65th Lightrail station). Instead you'll need to grab megabus from under the freeway, on 6th between W & X. First time on Megabus, but definitely not my last. I had to get to San Francisco today without my car and had the choice of the Amtrack then bus, Bart, uber, or Megabus. I did a little research and found the Megabus website with a pick up at the 65th Bus station in Sacramento with a drop off in San Francisco on Townsend between 4th and 5th street. That might be a perfect situation for those going to the Giants game as it lets off literally a few blocks from AT&T Park. We chose the 9:30am bus with a 11:30am arrival in Sn Francisco. Research noted that you cue up in line as most (but not all) seats are first come first served. We arrived 30 min ahead and were 5th and 6th in line. The bus arrived at 9:10and we were on by 9:10. Reserved seats can be purchased for an additional $1 fee as well. There are Table and front row seats for $5 or $7 more as well. Bus is clean, comfortable. We sat on the upper level, with a nice view. The only negative for me is that the bus ride is "soft". What I mean is that our bus had that Cadillac soft rolling feel and was slowly rocking up and down with every bump in the road. So for those of you that get car sick easily, you have been forewarned. Reservations are done online, and the process is incredibly easy. For $9 plus the $1 reservation fee for this trip, I found it a great deal. Plus not having to drive, free wi fi, no toll made the trip well worth it. Food is allowed on bus, and there is a restroom on board as well. Booking tickets online on their site is very easy and allows you to reserve a seat for $1.50. I don't recommend reserving seats since the bus is typically never full if you're leaving early in the day so there's plenty of empty seats to choose from. Be sure to have your tickets printed or ready on your phone prior to boarding to make it an easier process for everyone. Wait at the 65th St. Lightrail Station. Note that a line typically forms 15-20 minutes prior to boarding, so look for that if you're not sure where you're suppose to wait. Bus typically gets there on time. The trip from Sacramento to San Francisco can range from 1.5 to 2 hours and is typically a smooth one. The drivers are very capable and knowledgeable. Seats aren't the most comfortable and I find it hard to sleep on their buses. Upside is that they have charging outlets in every seat. However, I've had experiences with outlets that were dysfunctional, specifically in the very front seats. Overall, a cheap was to travel and to avoid the hassles of driving. After reading all the negative Yelp reviews, we were really apprehensive about the Megabus. But yesterday, we took a quick trip from Sac to SF and had a great experience! We booked our tickets online, about a week or 1.5 weeks prior to our trip. Their website was very easy to use. It gave us 3 departure times from Sac to SF on a Wednesday: 6am, 3pm, or 6:15pm. Ticket prices vary based on the time you leave. Due to our schedule, we needed to choose the most expensive option, the 6am departure. (The 3pm departure started out at $1, which is an amazing deal!). I loved how we could select our seats online when booking also. On our way to SF, we selected seats #5 and 6, which was the second row on the left. That cost an additional $1 per seat. The seat wasn't bad, but (like all seats) it can be a bit uncomfortable when the person in front of you reclines their seat all the way back. On the way back, we got front row seats (3-4), which are the best seats, in our opinion. In addition to the great view, there's nobody behind you, so you can recline your seat without feeling guilty. :) Those cost an additional $7 per seat, but we found it to be worth the splurge for a more enjoyable trip back. Be advised: there is no parking lot at the Megabus University/65th station. We decided to drive to the Power Inn Light Rail station and park in their huge lot there. Parking is $1. Then we bought Light Rail tickets on their app (SacRT) for around $2.75 each and took the Light Rail one station west to University/65th St. It was a fun experience, though it was pretty dark in the morning. Once we got off the Light Rail, we walked a few steps to the right and saw the MEGABUS sign. We lined up around 5:30am and then around 5:45am, we saw the Megabus pulling in. The driver, a friendly white-haired guy named Chris, greeted everyone and apologized for being late. He said he was REALLY late, so I guess they're usually scheduled to arrive much earlier. He checked our confirmation numbers off his list and we boarded the two-decker bus. We LOVED having a double outlet in between our seats. Supposedly there is wi-fi on board too, but we did not use it. The bus ride there was smooth and relaxing, though at times bumpy. Dropped us off a few blocks from AT&T Park. On the way back, everything went smoothly also, though the area where you line up to board is in the middle of a crowded street. Our seats on the way back were great, though the couple next to us (who moved forward to the vacant seats when they saw nobody was sitting there) talked loudly the entire time. :( Note to self: wear earplugs next time. We departed very punctually. At 5:40pm (our set departure time), the bus started driving out from the curb where it was parked. Sadly, we saw this lady jogging with her suitcase and waving to our bus, even practically standing in front of it, to get the driver's attention. She had her hand on her heart and was saying, "Please!!" Unfortunately, at that point, the driver either didn't want to stop for her or maybe had rules prohibiting him from doing so. I looked on my phone and it was 5:42pm. My husband was guessing that maybe she had just gotten off the CalTrain that we saw pulling in just a few minutes earlier. We felt bad for her, and wondered what she'd be doing next. Wait for the 9pm bus? Take an Uber to Sacramento? So definitely make sure you're at the bus stop 15 minutes prior to departure. If you're not on a tight time crunch, Megabus is definitely a great option for getting from Sac to SF. It's inexpensive (our trip cost us the two of us $54.50 with the upgraded seats), relaxing, and fun. :) read more

If I can describe MegaBus (in Sacramento) in two words it would be disorganized and late. Why do I say this? Well, read on... (1) Disorganization: The MegaBus "stop" in Sacramento is located at the University/65th Street Light Rail Stop in the outskirts of downtown Sacramento. My first question I had running in my mind was, am I at the right place? The area to line up was neither marked nor labeled, so it was confusing to know where to wait for the bus. I got my question answered by asking someone if he was waiting for the MegaBus, which he was. Basically, the stop/boarding area is opposite the building which states "PAPER SHREDDING". From here is where the line starts and continues on its way back in the direction of the Q Street/65th Street intersections. (2) LATE There is a typical saying that you don't want to take the last bus/plane of the day because it's usually late... And this definitely holds true for MegaBus. Granted the bus was delayed by about half an hour, it threw my other public transportation connections off. This can be inconvenient especially if you're heading into SF late, when public transportation (such as Bart, Muni, and CalTrain) run less often, making your overall trip even longer with longer connection times. On another note, I also signed up for text alerts to notify if my bus is going to be delayed, but how come I didn't get an alert? While the fares are reasonable, the disorganization and lateness factors (which was also remarked in other helpers reviews) can make your trip experience a less enjoyable one. If you plan to take MegaBus from Sacramento, make sure to follow my instructions to know where to wait and line up. You can also check for delays on the megabus.com website too... As you may or may not get a text alert! I like MegaBus a lot, as I've traveled with them plenty in the past I'm the east coast... The lady that drives is really nice. No WiFi though. Megabus WiFi is a Megascam. Plus some of the air conditioning thingys where broken. Bathroom is your normal porta potty except it's really clean. I have taken the Megabus twice now, both times from Sacramento to Downtown San Francisco. Each time I booked, I payed the extra three dollars for the reserved seats with a small table. All seats have access to an outlet, perfect for charging your phone, but with a table i had the option do do some work and have a handy cup holder for my coffee! Getting checked in, luggage loaded and finding your seat was fast and well organized by the two gentleman running things. Once the bus gets rolling, you watch a quick video on safety and other megbus booking options for future trips. The ride itself was comfortable, I like the window seat. Beautiful scenery makes the time fly by. They do offer free wifi on the bus. Megbus is a great convenient, affordable way to travel. For $20 I enjoyed a comfortable, convenient, and easy roundtrip from Sac to San Fran. It was the perfect way to transport myself to the Giants Race on a Sunday, not having to worry about driving, parking, and traffic. Winning even before the race! My only worry was that the bus would arrive late, since I only had an hour window before my start time. But to my pleasant surprise, we got to the Caltrain Station (actually in front of Safeway right across the street) 20 minutes before our scheduled time. Nice. Pickup would be at the the same location, and I suggest getting there at least 30 minutes early. There was another bus coming that was headed to L.A., so we had 2 lines forming. Make sure you ask someone if you're in the right line! A few days before my trip, I got an email from megabus.com saying that they changed dropoff/pickup locations from Front Street in Old Sac to the Yolo bus stop at 13th/L downtown, right in front of the Community Theater. I'll admit, I was a little excited when I saw the blue, double-decker bus pull up, 20 minutes before our depart time, kinda like it was my first time taking the bus on the first day of school! You are allowed 1 piece of luggage for storage and 1 carry-on. There's a whole list of things you are not allowed to bring on the bus, so take note of the fine print online, if you planned on bringing your bowling ball or fishing pole. I grabbed the front seat on the upper deck (tip from other Yelpers for the best view) and settled into my clean and comfy seat. The first thing I noticed was that there was a real seatbelt. Our driver made sure that everyone had it on before we took off. He actually did the flight attendant check. I thought that was cool...didn't want to go flying head first out of that large window in front of me! I was a little confused that we didn't get the same seatbelt check on the trip back to Sac. So is it just the driver's preference regarding the seatbelts or is it actual Megabus policy? Well, whichever the case, I buckled up for my own peace of mind. I connected to their wi-fi without incident and began surfing the net as soon as I sat down. Each seat has a power outlet at calf level, which was truly handy for my battery-sucking phone. The bathroom stall is located on the lower level in the back, and is pretty much a porta-potty. No flushing, but luckily, on my ride it was very clean and did not smell. They also provided a couple garbage bags tied to some seats in the aisle. Supposedly we are able to control the a/c flow with the vent above the seats, but even after closing both vents (seat next to me was empty), wearing a hoodie, and drinking some coffee, the bus was still freezing-ass cold! I figured that I saved at least $50 (gas, bridge tolls, parking) by taking the hassle-free Megabus. Now if only I can score one of those advertised $1 fares...!!! read more

Having ridden Megabus three times now, I can definitely vouch for this service if you are in no rush to get to your destination. Since my initial review, my trip to San Francisco on the 3pm bus was not delayed because the route originated in Sacramento, and my 7pm bus from SF to Sacramento was also not delayed since it started in SF. I booked this round trip the week of, leading me to pay $5 to and $3 back, which in total is still a whole lot cheaper than taking the Amtrak, AND you get to your destination quicker. I also found that the wifi service was stellar when I used it on my laptop on my trip back to Sac. Since my review, Megabus has moved its bus stop back to 1050 Front Street, which is right in front of the Southern Sacramento Railroad ticket booth. I would also suggest getting all fluids out of your systems before boarding the bus because the restroom onboard is like a mobile porta-potty: cramped, unflushable, and no sink. read more

I am currently writing this while sitting on the Megabus to Reno. Here is a little background of our trip thus far. The pick up spot was super easy to find because there was a guy standing there wearing a mega hat. Awesome. Line up against the island thing by the lightrail station and wait for the bus's arrival. The bus arrived at the exact time of departure...which was supposed to be 1020. We ended up leaving the station at 1040. 20 minutes late...no biggie. The bus has 2 levels. There were plenty of seats and enough leg room. I really appreciated that the seats don't recline so I didn't have to worry about space. The seats are comfy for a 2 hour ride. I'm unsure how I would feel going longer distances but they are your typical bus seats. The prices are ridiculously cheap. You might even find some $1 days!!! At first, I was a little concerned seeing the prices. I mean...what kind of ride would you expect paying a buck? Haha. Well, I was wrong. The bus is clean. It's well ventilated and the ride has been smooth thus far. My one and only complaint? The horrific wifi...It does your basic business such as yahoo, yelp, and facebook. Haha. Otherwise, don't expect to stream...as it was already expected. I am just thankful that there is some form of wifi. Oh, and pandora doesn't work either. Switch to your downloads or utilize your 4g! There are outlets at every seat. Super duper kudos there. Some seats offer a table...downside is, there are seats going backwards at the table also. If you're anything like me, you'd get carsick. Since being stranded, I contacted customer service. They sent an email to their service department about the last minute change in location. i have been playing email tag with various people within in the Megabus department trying to get reimbursed for their mistake, it has been over 2 months now. I finally got a reply email saying that it was MY fault and that the temp location was on the ticket. Which it was not. I was notified via text 40 minutes after we were suppose to be picked up that the location had changed. I was with several other passengers, so how did all of us miss this? Oh, that's because it wasn't listed on the ticket. I am so glad that the person who replied to my email had took the time to read the previous emails attached. So at this point, I have all the email correspondences and will be taking them to small claims court. If they did the right thing, said they were sorry for THEIR mistake and lack of proper communication in the location change and refunded my ticket that would be fine, as that is all that i wanted. But now, I will have them pay for my travel from Sacrament, CA o to Reno, NV round trip. Would I normally do this? NO. But most reputable companies apologize for their errors in a prompt manner and do the decent thing and reimburse you. If you want to travel with a company that will take no responsibility for their mistakes and where you can possible be stranded in a city and then get a text 40 minutes after you were suppose to board that the location has been changed, but that bus has already left for the day so the next bus you can catch is 12 hours from now, then I highly recommend traveling with Megabus! read more

A great service for the price! The seats are pretty comfortable, and come equipped with power outlets. Their wifi is hard to connect to and not very fast. Journey 1: 2 people in Sacramento going to SF for only $12. Unfortunately, my boyfriend had an uncomfortable experience given his over 6 foot height and the fact that the guy sitting in front of him decided to fully recline his seat. We arrived about 5 minutes later than scheduled, which was really no big deal to us. Journey 2: Going back to Sacramento was also $12 for both of us, which is worth mentioning only because it turns out that the price varies depending on the chosen time of departure. Luckily, this time was much more comfortable for my jolly-green-giant boyfriend. lol. Also, the bus arrived back in Sacramento approximately 20 minutes earlier than scheduled, which gave us time to go across the street in Old Sac to get some deliciously fresh caramel popcorn. Overall, I would highly recommend using Megabus if you need a relatively inexpensive way to travel to some key cities. In SF, it's at the Caltrain station but it's a little further down so you'll have to look for the signs. In Sacramento, it's now at the light rail. I'm pretty annoyed at Megabus. I made a purchase online, and only had one ticket in my cart, the summary and confirmation before purchasing only had one ticket... but when I clicked to confirm purchase it was still one, but when the order confirmation came up it became two tickets. Another ticket was one that I had been looking at but decided against and never added to cart... I called them immediately to tell them about this and instead of just taking the charge off like pretty much any business would they said they do not offer refunds and only gave me the credit for the purchase that would expire in one year. This really annoyed me as, I do not use megabus often and this was clearly a glitch in their website. I've shopped online a lot and never had this happen before. read more

It took me 3 attempts to finally use Megabus. My first time I had to ask around to locate the bus station. They have since moved the bus stop locations multiple times, but now it's settled on Townsend St., between 4th and 5th St near the Cal Train Station right near a bike shop. As mentioned, it took me a couple of tires to finally use this service. Here are some tips I have gained: 1. BUY your tickets ONLINE at least the night before. The earlier you buy the tickets in advance, the cheaper the prices. As of now, they don't let you buy tickets on the spot, EVEN if there is room on the bus (BS I know right -___- I learned that 2x the hard way) 2. Make sure you plan out how to the to the bus stop. If you're coming from downtown SF, take the T Metro. It will take you straight to the Cal Train Station & you just have to walk a few blocks 3.ARRIVE at least 5-20 minutes before the time shown on the ticket. The time show = the time they leave. If it says 11AM, best believe they will leave at 11AM. 4. From what I know, you can have a personal luggage & a carry on that you can bring with you on the bus. I usually use Mega bus from San Francisco to Sacramento. I've been using Amtrak since 2009 so it's a huge time & money saver. I just wish they had this sooner so I would have saved so much time & money in the past =( 76 None the less, I really enjoy using Mega bus. Usually it takes 2 hours or less to get from SF to Sacramento if you go on an earlier bus. However, when I went from Sacramento to SF on a later bus, it took +3 hours since it was during rush hour. Excellent Value! There's a cool little tab on their website called "Service Interruptions," however the fact that Old Sac was shut down due to a festival wasn't listed. Luckily, we arrived with more than enough time to call and walk over to the alternate pickup location in front of the Holiday Inn on J and 4th. Moral: call customer service if you're running late and verify the pickup location. Don't expect the wi-fi to work and only use the bathroom in case of an emergency. Otherwise, there's no other way to do a round trip to SF from Sac so cheaply. read more

Used the Bus for a trip into SF right after the BART strike and when we weren't sure how much of a nightmare it would be to drive into the city. $11 a ticket which, as other Yelpers point out, is cheaper than Amtrak PLUS it's a little faster PLUS you get dropped off right downtown at the CalTrain station (in SOMA near the ballpark) without any transfers. PERFECT for Giants fans --- the Bus was probably half-full of them. Hummmm baby. Seats were pretty standard, you get a great view of the world going by if you get a seat on the top deck. My only gripe is that the A/C was BLASTING directly onto me the WHOLE WAY. I was colder on that bus than I was at any point of the night in SF. Driver drove safely, we got there pretty much in the scheduled two hours even with a spot of traffic in the Davis area. Note: the line for the Bus starts at the railroad STATION on Front St (btwn J and K, across from Fat's) and NOT the train museum as some of the other reviews mention. Just make sure you actually get in line for the Bus, and not for the choo-choo train. read more

SoCAL to LasVegas: Not a problem. Took an early bus ride from Riverside Station, CA going to Las Vegas. Bus is on time but there weren't many available seats to choose from. If you are not adventurous do not, and I repeat do not take this bus as you will be grossed out by who you find sitting next to you. I suggest you open that wallet and maybe spend a couple more dollars to reserve your seat if you are traveling with a companion. On the plus side, the outlets per seat is pretty convenient. I get to charge my phone while listening to some music during the trip. The wifi doesn't seem to work though so better ask the attendant. Oh by the way, the attendant wasn't very helpful at all. There were a couple of Chinese tourist who immediately placed their bag in the bus without checking in and were called out very badly. Apparently you have to check in first before boarding the bus. I mean I didn't know that too, I just followed the herd. But all in all, the ride was smooth and they were really on time. I took the same bus back to SoCal as I just did Vegas as a day trip thing. They tell you it will take 5 to 7 days.... Well let me tell you different!! Avoid their ridiculous 5 to 7 day waiting period. If you left something behind on a bus arriving in Sacramento, you can call the All West Coachlines facility directly at (916) 423-4000. I left my suitcase on board the other day and I was freaking out because I had a flight 3 days later. I searched around and found this number online, and was able to ask for lost and found where I talked to the person in the warehouse directly! Took a sec for them to find it but I got it back in time for the flight! Had to pick it up myself but I was glad to get it back. read more

This was our first time using the Megabus after hearing about it from my sister in law. For less than what it would cost for one person to go round trip on Amtrak, our party of six was able to go round trip between Sacramento and San Francisco. The seats were comfortable and the leg room was not bad (I am 5'10" and do not always fit well in seats since most of my height is in my legs). The bus was clean and according to my teen daughter and her friend, the bathroom was as well. Even better! The staff was friendly and helpful. The driver coming back was pleasant and joking with the guy who showed up late as we were boarded and getting ready to embark on our return trip home. She could have turned him away and been terse with him as I have seen drivers be when taking the Amtrak connecting bus between the Emmeryville station and SF. It was nice having electrical outlets on the bus to recharge our phones but would have been nice if the wifi was working. Apparently though this is an ongoing issue. I also would have liked if their bus stops were better marked to ensure no one misses where the bus stop location was, All in all it was a good trip and an awesome value, especially for this single mom/nursing student. :-) read more

Love MEGABUS! The traffic to SF if you are only a one person driver, is crazy! Why drive when you can sit back and leave the driving to someone else. I have been riding MEGABUS for over a year and the drivers are always polite, and drive cautiously. I like the fact they drop off and pick up at the SF CALTRAIN station in the city. I can walk to downtown SF, take public transportation, including hop on CALTRAIN to head down south. I tried their competition, FlixBus and that was a very negative experience, which I will never take again. MEGABUS rates 10 stars over that very sorry alternative. I took the 1120pm-6pm La- Oakland bus today. Although in my previous trips with megabus I was impressed with the experience this time I was very disappointed. The Bus had no air conditioning and the bus has no window. Temperatures were on the 90s on the bus, extremely hot. One person almost fainted a lot of people complained about being lightheaded or feeling sick. The drivers did the best they could to try to fix the air conditioning but were unable to. They also offered to let 8 customers get on another bus that did have air conditioning only if they were going to San Francisco which most were not. About two hourse from our destination the bus overheated and broke down. We were stranded for 2 hours. The bus drivers were able to fix the bus on their own eventually and we made it to our destination over 3 hours late. Our drivers assured us we would get a refund and a free trip because company policy is any delay over 30minutes is the company's fault. I called customer service as the drive instructed. The first time I was hung up on while explaining the events that had occurred. The second time I was put on hold so the representative could consult a supervisor because he was unsure of what to do in the situation. Bothe representative had thick indian accents and were very difficult to understand. The supervisor got upset when I asked him to repeat himself slower so I could understand him. He refused to give me a refund yelled over me would not let me speak to a supervisor and hung up in my face and refused to help me. I was three hours late to an appointment. I came from Victorville California drove to La for two hours and then took what ended up being a 10 hour no air conditioned trip. I was treated so rudely from customer service I dont think I would use this service again. To make matters worse I booked a trip to go back home the same day. I wouldve been able to get my appoint done and have hours to spare. Because of the 3 hour delay I have to pay another 50 dollars for a later bus ticket. I do want to thank the two bus drivers who worked hard to accommodate us and were very understanding of the situation. read more

Who else is in a long distance relationship? I find myself at this stop at least twice a month due to my boyfriend traveling from SF. We didn't find Megabus until we were scrolling around Wanderu and it popped up as the cheapest fare. He decided to give it a try, since he was irritated with how Greyhound was always late and their fares are pricier. From what he mentioned, he likes Megabus due to the fact that they're almost always on time (sometimes even early), the drivers are safe, the seats are comfortable, there's more than enough legroom, and it's fairly quiet (maybe because he always has his earphones in, so he can't hear the people around him.) I've never personally rode Megabus, but I would definitely give it a try. A fare is booked online and although there is a $2 booking fee, it is fairly cheap compared to driving down to SF (or other areas). Not that Megabus needs another lackluster review recapping its across-the-board mediocrity, but my latest experience is worth sharing and, hey, isn't that what Yelp is for? I bought a RESERVED seat in the front on the top level. Based on past experience, I discovered this to be a great view and a nice place for extra leg room. When I arrived at the terminal I discovered that, in the words of the driver, the "regular bus is down." We ended up filing onto a decaying old Greyhound, my reserved seat be damned. Every possible square inch of this thing was packed, from occupied seats to luggage spilling out from the racks above and under the seats. Throw in a hacking, awful-smelling man in front of me and a woman behind me who spent the entire time yapping on her phone about what a piece of shit her boyfriend is and I longed for some of the chicken buses I'd ridden on in Central America. So, why two stars? I'll be riding Megabus again because it is one of cheaper and more convenient options for getting to San Francisco. Hopefully the powers that be behind Megabus read this and try to step up their game so the customer experience seems as important to them as making a little cash. So much for paying extra for a reserved seat. read more

Ok.... I have to start off by saying, this is a bus. There isn't a lot they can do to make it fancy, or comfortable, or NOT sell tickets to crazy people. It's cramped, you're in a bumpy car, and you have no control over the noise/smell quantities of your seat neighbors. That being said, it's like 0 dollars to get anywhere. I took the bus from Sac to SF, saved myself the hassle of parking and the cost of gas, got to listen to headphones and read a book rather than concentrating on not dying on the Bay Bridge, and it was like 6 freaking dollars. $9.00 from Sacramento to San Francisco. I was prepared for the worst ride of my life. Lucky for me, good value doesn't have to mean compromise. The megabus is two stories (levels?). I sat on the first story and had two seats all to myself. The wi-fi worked fine the whole way with no service interruption. I just popped in the old earphones and listed to Spotify while reading on my nook. The bus leaves Sacramento from 65th and Q St. The stop in SF is conveniently located by the train lines and there's also a taxi pickup. Sure beats trying to find a parking spot in the city. The bus is clean and the staff is friendly. There's a bathroom but I didn't, uh, "check it out". Maybe next time. I wonder what the bus equivalent of the "Mile High Club" is called... I wish that I could give it a good review but the 6am never came and din't notify people until 6:53 am. My daughter was there alone in the dark and cold by herself with all of the commuters leaving. She didn't know what to do, so she walked home. Later she was told another bus was coming but it never did. She called for a refund and they said to call back and they could do it after the bus arrived in SF. I called and they said they can be late due to traffic, mechanical or weather and that there was zero refund or credit. They were rude on the phone. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she would not do one thing. I told them I would blast social media and they don't seem to care AT ALL! Don't trust these people. read more

oof. Megabus is okay until it's not: I arrived for my trip from Sacramento to San Francisco and found that my reserved seat, which I paid $23 for, was double booked - so I was not able to sit there. When i talked to the driver, he told me I'd have to wait in standby to see if I could get on the bus - and the driver mentioned that it was a full bus. "WHAT??? I bought a ticket for a reserved seat, megabus made an error, and the conclusion would be me possibly not making it to SF? Helllll no". I argued that there was no way I was missing that bus - I had arrived early with a reserved seat - why would I have to wait...? Luckily there were 3 seats left over after everyone was seated so no one was left behind. When I emailed megabus to complain, this is what happened: ------- 1) email from megabus: Dear Vincent, Thank you for contacting megabus customer service. We apologize that your journey was not above satisfactory and it caused you to contact us with a complaint. Please be advised that as per your account you purchased a reserved seat for $1.00 and because you did not utilize the seat I have refunded your fare in the amount of $1.00. Please allow 3-5 business days for this credit to post to your account. Your patronage is important to us, and we hope you will continue to give us the opportunity to serve you again. We appreciate your business. Thank you for choosing megabus.com. Sincerely, Briana Megabus Customer Service Specialist ------- 2) my message to megabus: Brianna, that's not right. The inconvenience and embarrassment of being accused of sitting in someone else's reserved seat, and being asked to wait in standby is worth a LOT more than $1. Imagine how you would feel in that situation. I chose megabus so I wouldn't have to deal with this. If the bus had been full I would not have been able to make my trip. That is not acceptable. Okay so.. I've taken Megabus once because I heard all the talk about oh, it's a dollar! Maybe some rides.. I don't know.. mine def wasn't. I made a reservation and paid online on their website. The jump off was at the light rail station on University and 65th. I took a Lyft there and the driver was familiar with Megabus and pointed me in their direction. There was a little sign with people lined up. I asked someone in line for confirmation that I was in the right place. It was a Double Decker bus. It was on time. I think there's a restroom on the bottom level of the bus.. I didn't use it so I don't know what's up. Really, I just slept. I got what I paid for-- got to where i wanted to go with no issues so I'm open to using this service again. Hopefully next time I'll have better information for you, i.e. WiFi and electrical outlets.. I can tell you it wasn't cold on the bus and I wonder if there's air conditioning that I missed out on.. I have taken Megabus a few times now and only now do I feel comfortable writing a review. Here are my thoughts: Pros: -Very cheap, way cheaper than driving and cheaper than Amtrak. Fares start at just $1. -Clean and comfortable -Bathroom on bus -"free wifi"- though it never works for me Cons: -Inconsistent (the first time I attempted taking Megabus, one of the buses broke down and so my bus was approximately 4 hours late. I ended up just skipping this trip.) (the second trip I took left one hour after the scheduled time.) The bottom line is if you just need to get from one place to another and you're not on a tight schedule, Megabus is fine. Otherwise, it's a bit unreliable at this point. So rider, beware. Notes: -Make sure you keep the confirmation code- it's required to board the bus. read more

Megabus is typically on point when correcting their wrongs. But this time, after 45 minutes of waiting, we're finally notified that some jack @$$ didn't show up to work and they have to deploy another driver who won't arrive in Sac til the time we were supposed to be in SF! I mean really, if your workers can't get it together, you need to be proactive: fire the guy and get someone out here regardless of the reason someone didn't show up. Did I mention it's 40 degrees outside?? This weather is a health hazard for some considering megabus doesn't even own bus shelters or actual buildings to keep their customers comfortable at a time like this! Hrmm lets start off by the lack of parking. We get there assuming there'd be a parking lot (we couldn't find any evidence of one on their website but we were being hopeful there would be SOMETHING) but.. nope.. NO PARKING. So we finally found a shady spot to park our car over a mile walk away and rushed to make it on time only to find out that the bus was running 1.5 hours LATE!! We had a deadline so we rushed back to our car and made it to Reno on time. Needless to say, we didn't need their services back as we already had our car now. So, no parking, unreliable timing.. and now they refuse to give us a refund! GHETTO. read more

Took the Bus from Sacramento to SF Caltrain. UPSIDE: Cheap alternative to driving only $10 Bus is clean Staff is friendly Outlets in bus for cell phone charging Free wifi Seat belts in every seat Good ventilation Think hybrid double decker London bus and greyhound DOWNSIDE: Sacramento bus stop has no shade or seats, so expect to be standing in the sun. Sacramento bus stop does not have any rest room facilities. Bathrooms- DO NOT BREATHE! Hold your breath from the moment you walk in to the time you get out. Think Porto potty at a sold out concert. Yep it does not flush- it just accumulates until ??? For $10 it was comfortable and an easy trip. I'd do it again. read more

A few weeks ago, I decided to take a last minute trip to San Francisco. Most of the time, I usually take Amtrak/BART to SF, but my friend was raving about how cheap and efficient Megabus was. I figured why not so I went online and was able to find a $5 fare down to SF. Unfortunately, they didn't have any available spots for my way back to Sac , but figured that I was already saving some money by taking Megabus (ended up taking Amtrak back to Sac). On departure day, I got to the pick up location about 15 minutes early. There wasn't much of a line and the driver was able to take my backpack and store it in their luggage compartment. Going in, I was able to get a seat in the upper deck of the bus near the front. Mind you, for a nice scenic view for the drive, I suggest getting there a bit early to get the very front upper deck seats. It is pretty much a flat window which yields uber nice views of the bay as you roll down the hill toward Vallejo. Despite leaving a few minutes after departure time (dang stragglers), we still got there by the designated arrival time. This was also with rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon in the city. Overall, I had a good trip considering I slept most of the way. The bus is clean and the people around me were pretty chill. If it gets a bit loud for ya, just pop in some headphones and connect to their wifi to make the time pass. Unfortunately, the wifi didn't work during my ride down (my only downside to my ride). I guess this is a common issue which I hope they fix soon. There are also power outlets near every seat, a big plus. So if you hate driving to SF and complain of the higher prices of Amtrak, I say Megabus is worth a try. You save gas money and you don't have to deal with road rage while dealing with the horrendous rush hour traffic that exists in the city. One can only wish their cab fare in the city would be this cheap. read more

SAC to SF, why not try the Megabus? It's cheap and takes you right down to the SF Caltrain station. That's what we thought too. For two of us Amtrak would have cost $132 (which includes a bonus 30 minute bus ride at the end), Megabus was $42 (including reserved seat fees). Around 4 AM on Saturday morning (9/17) we received an email - The Megabus you reserved has turned into a single decker All West bus and you no longer have reserved seats, here's your $4 back. OK, we can roll with that. There is no parking at the SAC pickup so around 8:45 we call an Uber to take us the 7 minutes to the University/65th light rail stop and queue up with 20 or so other folks across from the paper shredding business. Thankfully it was a cool morning but it was growing hotter by the minute and there was not a scrap of shade to be found. A paper shredding employee was banging on the loading bay door with very little effect. He was frustrated and didn't seem to know what to do next. Yes, this was foreshadowing for our own fates. We stood dutifully in line until 10:00 , the line grew to 50-60 fellow travelers. Is a half an hour late that big of a deal? Not really, but add to that ZERO communication from Megabus and it's infuriating. Will they be 35 minutes late? Two hours? Armed with that information the human beings standing in line behind the grinning fat face on the Megabus sign could make decisions regarding their own fate. After 20 minutes or so the crowd became restless and fingers began tapping at screens in an attempt to unearth a nugget or two of information. There were no nuggets. A few were able to talk to a fellow human being and express their consternation, they were told to "check back in 30 minutes on the website for a status update" - the customer service equivalent of "piss off". There is a button labeled "status information" or some such, on the Megabus website. A clickable button full of promise. A button that told me thirteen times "no status information is available". What kind of sadistic game is this Megabus! Determined to be the master of my own destiny I took my wife by the hand and walked away from this farce. We walked out to the main drag and once again called Uber for rescue. Upon returning home we hopped in our car and joined the 6 billion other people on I-80. And this is why we have an over abundance of traffic, pollution, and highway fatalities. Mass-transit is practically unusable even in this most liberal minded of states. read more

I took the megabus for the first time today from Sacramento to San Francisco. I bought my ticket online a few hours early for $11, but it's cheaper the earlier you buy it. I showed up 10 min early and waited in line with about 40 other people. We left 15 minutes late, but made good time since we rode in the carpool/ bus lane the whole way up! Once on the bus, I was pretty impressed! If you were unaware, it's a double decker bus. If you can, make sure you sit on the top floor in the very front- the view is awesome! They have free wifi and outlets to plug you laptop/ phone into. The air conditioning was definitely working, thank goodness, because it was pretty warm outside. All in all, I had a very pleasant experience! I'll definitely be riding with them again in the future! read more

Customer service is zero stars. Cheap transporation is four starts. They recently changed their Sacramento location WITHOUT notifying customers. I called customer service who says it was on my email but it's clearly not. Then they hang up on your. It's absurd and rude and horrible. Also, they will not reimburse for this. read more

Wish I could give this company 0 stars. This is the second time I have taken the bus. The first time was the worst experience of my life. And that was years ago. So I gave it another try. And I regret is 100%! Bad service, very late, not customer oriented. The China town bus is 1000% better option. First bus experience-- waited outside in NYC in pouring rain. For a very late bus. Everyone was soaked head to toe. And the bus driver blasted AC. Not to mention my seat was broken. This experience from Boston -- waited over 55 minutes for a driver to be replaced half way through the trip. And it took me 6hrs and 30 min to get from Boston to NYC -- with hardly any traffic. The company is a joke. Take it at your own risk. Not to mention the prices are just as good as there competitions. Definitely go with the competitions. These guys don't care about the customers or respect their time. read more

Needs improvement. My wife and I booked our first trip from Sacramento to San Francisco. We were advised to be at least fifteen minutes early at the pickup spot, so we made sure we got there at the appointed time. Well............ the bus was half an hour late getting to the pickup spot which made it over half an hour late leaving. Also, the seats are narrow and not all that comfortable. It was OK for a trip to SFO, but we would never consider going on a longer trip with Megabus! I somehow envisioned seats like on the tour buses, but that's not the case at all. Yes, they have wifi, but it's limited with not much bandwidth. It's pretty basic. Also there are no tray tables for your laptop, so you really have to hold it on your lap. Good value but needs improvement. read more

True story. My group was left waiting and stranded downtown Sacramento to go to ATT Park to see the Giants. No bus came. No person called to explain. I lost my money and our entire group was stranded. They kept their money for the fare to and back. Too bad we also lost the money for our game tickets. NEVER AGAIN! read more
