(PLEASE READ FULL STORY BEFORE GOING HERE) I do not recommend going to unique dental for wisdom tooth removal. I found Unique Dental on Yelp and it was the only dental office that accepted my insurance with decent reviews. I had my top two wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Tran. As shown on the x-ray there were no complications they were an easy extraction unfortunately for my bottom teeth they were impacted and faced horizontally and Dr. Tran said one was closer to my nerve and I had 30% risk of getting permanent damage. At this point I was extremely nervous because BEFORE the actual appointment to get them removed no one told me that I was at such a high risk of permanent nerve damage. So I ended up just having him take out the top 2 wisdom teeth. Dr. Tran is a nice man and everyone was really friendly but this one star is for the horrible job he did removing my wisdom teeth. first of all it was very uncomfortable. Yes, I was numbed but I could feel him trying to pull out the tooth and I could tell he was having a difficult time. He tried to do everything he could to make me comfortable but he did not do a good job getting them out. After the extraction of both teeth which took around 2 hours or so I had MASSIVE swelling. When I left the office I immediately iced my cheeks as directed. I iced on and off for 15-20 minutes. I was swollen for a week and it was extremely painful (which I thought was normal) being first time having any serious work done. I went to another dentist for a second opinion because I was very nervous about this "30% risk" and the swelling was so bad I didn't wanna go through the whole process again especially after Dr. Tran said it's going to be worse. I had my BOTTOM impacted wisdom teeth extracted by another dentist and it was NO PROBLEM I barely had any swelling at all and these are the teeth that were going to be hardest to take out. The other dentist took x-rays and didn't understand why I was told I got a 30% risk of damage he said it's more like 1% and he showed me the x-rays and explained every single detail to me unlike Dr.Tran. The reason that really pushed me to make this review is because today I went to my new dentist for a checkup to see how my gums are healing. Its been exactly 7 days since I've had the bottoms removed and they are FULLY HEALED I'm still having pain with my top gums from Dr.Tran and it turns out I still have a hole that has not healed and its been 21 DAYS. That is absolutely ridiculous that my bottom teeth healed within 7 days when they were fully impacted and my top teeth which had no issues has not healed in almost a month!! The reason I had such a horrible healing process from Dr. Tran is because he made small incisions and pulled out the teeth which irritated my gums this is the sign of someone very inexperienced. You have to make a big incision and open up the gums so you can see what your doing and so you don't irritate and inflame the tissue. -Words from a oral surgeon. For the sake of others I have to post my pictures after my experience with Dr. Tran AND other dentist to show the difference of swelling. I don't recommend anyone to ever get work done that this office. They are inexperienced and I had a horrible recovery. Dr. Henry Tran is a great dentist and making appointments is crazy easy. They are listed on ZocDoc so you can just set up an appointment online if you're not a phone-in-to-book kind of person. Although, if you're so inclined, they do book appointments the old fashioned way as well. As far as I know they are a multilingual office who can explain things in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish. Living in San Francisco I completely skipped seeing a dentist because going outside is always such a drag so once I found myself in the Orange County area, I looked up a dentist who has high ratings and accepts my ppo. Feel free to call to check if they are in network with yours but I believe they accept most insurances. They have two locations but I've only been to the one in Costa Mesa. Everyone in the office is extremely friendly. I've recommended their office to several members of my family who live in the area already. Everyone has had nothing but great comments for his work ethic and quality of care. I been here twice for myself and twice for my girlfriend. Each time, we waited for less than 10 minutes. I had a deep cleaning done and Dr. Tran was exceptionally thorough and made sure I had enough pain meds before proceeding. Afterward, they also gave me a care package to bring home which had Sensodyne toothpaste, floss, and a toothbrush. Absolutely horrible. I went in for a filling which he quickly proceeded to rush out costs and said no problem. After finding out that my insurance only covered up to 1500 that turned out to be the exact amount the fillings cost instead of the original 3,400 that he quoted. After the fillings were filled in I can no longer bite down and chew food correctly as he incorrectly alligned my bite. When I rescheduled appointment and asked him to correct which he said he could he said it was not his issue and that I would have to see an orthodontist and get braces. So, I returned for my third visit (more needles) and the nerve pain is gone....mostly I can only have room temperature beverages and foods now...which sucks the enjoyment out of dining for me. I was offered a refund or a whitening treatment. I may regret it later due to the sensitivity issue, but I opted for the whitening. They really are great people that want to do the right thing for their patients. This is clear because of the numerous follow up calls I have received. Once I get the courage to make that whitening appointment I'm not sure if I'll return for further dental care in the future. My suggestion for anyone is to find a dentist that wants to preserve what you have and will suggest treatments and practices to maintain and/or improve your natural teeth. Horrible, I came in with a cavity, and the Dr. proceeded to not tell me he was going to fill my tooth with silver fillings! I didn't even know they still allowed silver fillings anymore. My experience with Unique Dental has been excellent! The staff are really friendly and accommodating to patients' needs. I am definitely not a fan of going to dentists, and try to avoid them as much as possible. However, my last couple of appointments have made me feel more at ease and less concern about the pain of dental visits. Dr. Tran is extremely careful and considerate of patients.
