This week, another technician who repaired the stove pointed out that a plate was not covering the electrical wiring behind the stove's kick plate. So, for four years, my family and I were using a GAS stove with exposed wiring just behind the kick plate. The owner came by today with a "colleague" to "investigate." His colleague admitted that a plate should cover the exposed wiring. Rather than admit this grievous oversight, the owner offered up this absurd explanation: Someone else removed the plate in the four years since the original installation. No one removed the plate. No one. Why would anyone do that? He also claims that he installed a shut off valve. I have asked the TSSA to launch an investigation. Save yourself the risk and trouble my family has unknowingly endured for four years. I urge you to choose another contractor. The owner will no doubt respond to this warning with denials and accusations. You can believe him if you want to but, if you do, you will regret it.

Our experience with Aire One left us feeling misled and uneasy…read more We only discovered an issue with our fireplace after it suddenly stopped working. Aire One came out, issued an infraction, and told us the fireplace was "not up to code," then quickly pivoted to selling us a full replacement. No recall was cited, no clear explanation was given -- just urgency and pressure. What we later learned is what really concerns us. The fireplace wasn't simply turned off -- the gas valve had been physically locked. That's not something that happens accidentally. Someone had to deliberately do it. Even more concerning is the timing: this only happened after Aire One had recently replaced our furnace, a job that would have required shutting off the gas line. It's hard to ignore how "convenient" that is. When we questioned the infraction, my wife researched the fireplace thoroughly. There were no recalls, no safety notices, and no reason it should have failed inspection. Meanwhile, Aire One became difficult to deal with and repeatedly failed to follow through. On the day they were supposedly coming to replace the fireplace, we were told by dispatch that the crew had "broken down" on the way to our house. Later, the story changed: suddenly they weren't coming at all because they claimed the job would require removing brickwork -- something they said they wouldn't do. That raises an obvious question: If they supposedly couldn't do the job, why were they allegedly already on the road to our house when they "broke down"? We eventually contacted another HVAC company and spoke directly with the owner. Before we even finished explaining, he immediately asked if we had dealt with Aire One -- and then told us he hears stories like this often. He explained that they've developed a reputation for shutting off and locking fireplace gas valves, issuing infractions, and pushing replacements. He came over, unlocked the valve, turned it on, and the fireplace worked immediately. No repair. No replacement. He even helped us get the infraction removed. I can't speak to Aire One's intent -- but between the locked valve, the unsupported infraction, the push for replacement, and the contradictory explanations, the whole situation felt sneaky, misleading, and unethical. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion if Aire One tells you something in your home suddenly "isn't up to code."

He was prompt, pleasant and really seemed to know his stuff. His work was neat and clean, and he didn't try to sell me anything. The last HVAC person I had out here to look at my AC refused to even look at how it was behaving until he had forced me to listen to his sales spiel for a new unit several times, and then just took a quick look, said it was probably full of mice and left - and charged twice what Jeff did for his "work" when he did nothing. It had no mice either I was told later by someone who was a general handyperson and took the cover off to look inside. (Alert: don't ever rely on Google reviews) This is a guy you can trust to do the job properly and not make you have to sell your firstborn to afford it. Thanks Jeff!!

I contacted Dimplex (which at the time, I did not know was based in Canada), to file a warranty claim, and they shipped a control switch to my address. They ordered service on the unit to replace the part and have the unit operate as normal. The service tech came down from Minneapolis (which is a 4 hour drive from where I live). The tech worked on the fireplace for nearly two hours and still couldn't get the unit to work correctly. At the time I made initial contact with Dimplex, I was told that they would have the unit operating properly by the holidays. I contacted Dimplex to let them know, and offered the option to replace the unit entirely. They were out of stock on the unit in their warehouse, so a manufacturing ordered was sent...from China. Five months after accepting the original unit, my replacement is scheduled to be received by the end of the week that I'm writing this review. I've been told that the existing unit can be discarded (which is odd, since the we purchased the unit at $1200 US, and that was at a discount from a 3rd party retailer). I'm giving two stars as the fireplace lighting is beautiful and very realistic for an electric fireplace. The specialist I've worked with has overall been helpful, although anticipated receipt dates for the unit were continually pushed back. The main complaint I have is that Dimplex did not anticipate inventory concerns, which has placed me at a nearly 6-month delay to receive a unit that operates properly. It would be nice if their product was manufactured in North America.
