I just refinanced my house through Union savings bank. All closings were done with a title agency across the street from the bank in order to keep the employees of the bank safe during Covid. There is a small building right across the street from the bank itself where closings are held. It is located underneath the black online near subway. My closing was very easy! Once I provided all of the paperwork and advance and had my house appraised, everything ran smoothly. It took about two months to complete due to Union savings being overwhelmed with people refinancing. I got a rate of 2.75% for 15 years. Everyone I worked with through the process was very nice and thorough. I was well aware of everything and walked through all paperwork at the time of the closing. I also received a copy of the closing papers before I arrived. I would highly recommend! read more

Back in April 2022 we bought a home in Greenfield IN though USB and was able to easily sign paperwork through Docu Sign and transferred the down payment at a Title insurance branch close to our Greenfield location. Everyone was well informed and helpful thought-out the process of the entire stressful procedure. We were kept informed in what to do and expect. I got a construction mortgage with this bank and was the worst experience I have ever had! Their rates ended up being much higher than competing banks. I had a construction lien put on my house from draw money that was already paid for to the contractors from this bank. I did bring this matter to the supervisiors attention in the construction department for resolution, but their customer service was terrible.. They didn't return any of my calls and didn't want to be bothered with anything if the sort. Once this construction is complete, I will be seeking other mortgage companies.i would avoid working with this bank At some point, I will be filing with the BBB to resolve these issues read more

Refinanced my Union Savings Bank (8534 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH) 15 year loan, with another Union Savings Bank 15 year loan and they charged us a LATE FEE of $144.05 even though the original loan was closed (paid in full) on/before the late date. We paid Union Savings Bank a lot in fees to refinance to a second loan. Tried to call to resolve (800-582-9702) but they continued to place me on hold until the point I was hung up on. Meanwhile, all the other accounts we have with other bands (5/3rd, US Bank) are waiving all late feels due to COVID-19. And, we've NEVER paid Union Savings Bank obligations late, ever. In May of 2018, Mr. John Weldy, the Vice President of Sales at Union Savings Bank located at 5881 E 82nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46250 helped me to get through the loan process. As you can see from the attached emails from that time period, Mr. Weldy did not mind me calling him late or emailing him late. In fact, he even told me "God bless." Now fast forward to Sunday night 03/05/2019 at 9:00 P.M. I decided to call Mr. Weldy to follow up with him about a document that I thought existed and that I thought I was missing. To be honest, I was not expecting Mr. Weldy to answer his cellphone. When I made the call out to Mr. Weldy, I intended in no way to disrupt the routine of his evening. As a matter of fact, I thought I was going to get his voicemail, so that I could leave a message for him to call me back the next day. To my surprise, Mr. Weldy answered the phone. At the end of the conversation, Mr. Weldy became defensive and upset and raised his tone/voice at me. He stated, "You are fucking sick." Right after he finished uttering those words, he immediately hanged up on me. To say the least, I was shocked and stunned. The very man who told me "God bless" told me "I was fucking sick." After realizing the form that I thought existed did not exist, I immediately called Mr. Weldy the next morning before 8:00 A.M. and apologized to him for that. He accepted the apology. A little while later, Mr. Weldy called back and left me a voicemail advising me to retract the complaint that I had filed with the Better Business Bureau. I called him and told him that I would not do that; I emailed him advising the same. Mr. Weldy then emailed me and told me that I was the one who made the mistake. Also, he said that I called him at 9:00 P.M. resulting in the interruption of his "prayer time." He then stated that he would pray for me tonight. To say the least, the actions of Mr. Weldy against myself have been unprofessional, deplorable, and rude. If you want this type of service, then go to Union Savings Bank. But if you wish to be treated like a human being; then AVOID Union Savings Bank like you would avoid cancer. read more

As a Realtor I can honestly say this is the worst mortgage company in the city. They do not meet deadlines, can not meet extended deadlines, and worst of all they do not care that they unable to meet them. They do not perform title searches, they only perform title opinions which is not a thorough title search - to top it off they advise clients not to get title insurance. I have a closing that is supposed to take place in two days. We just found out that it could take another 10 days and that's if the processor get it completed today. Do yourself a favor and go to a bank that doesn't advertise $500 closings. You get what you pay for. I'm looking forward to moving away from this bank. Two strikes in a row. I'm not even giving them a third chance. I attempted to refinance my current mortgage which I have with them and I was rejected after weeks of being ignored. I have perfect credit, a solid job and income, no debt, I live within my means, the house I am refinancing has been paid down over the last five years and gained a lot of value AND I am an existing customer. I was shocked when I was refused but even more shocked that this was communicated to me in a one sentence email. No offer to discuss, consult to make sure numbers and calculations were correct or a discussion of other options. I pushed back and the CEO called me out of the blue after I sent a message to complain. I was not given a heads up and he did not scheduled a call with me and I could not take the call when he called. No attempt by him to schedule anything or follow up with me. I was over it and started an application with a new bank. Then COVID hit. The bank is offering 90 day deferment which I wanted to take them up on so I followed their process. I received a letter weeks later in the mail saying I did not qualify for a deferment. What? The letter offered NO reason why, no option to call and discuss. I have made every payment for 5 years. They did not know anything about my current situation, I had provided no documentation, how did they determine this? Again a bank that just does NOT help. Paying off the house after 17 years on a 30 year mortage. Refinanced with Union Savings Bank (OH) in 2012. I pay the mortgage with an ACH payment from NFCU; it always takes 1 day. Monday 03/15: I call local Union Savings branch near my house and ask for a payoff exact amount. They said they can't give that to me; I need to call the Cincinnati office and speak to Loan Servicing. Call Cincy, ask for Loan Services. I said "I'm going to send a final payment that will be credited on Friday (sent Thursday). What is the exact $ amount for payoff? Nice lady looked it up; it was slightly more than my current balance so I knew she wasn't just giving me my current balance. I thanked her (2 min phone call). Tues 03/16: I got a notification in MINT that I had a bank fee. Logged into Union Savings Bank (OH) and saw "Service Assessment Fee" for $35. I had no idea what that would be for, so I call them next day. Wed 03/17: Called Union Savings Bank (OH) and asked what the $35 fee was for. Lady stated it was a fee at the end of the loan to process the title paperwork to put the deed in my name. Ok, fine, it'd have been nice to hear that as most of us don't like unexpected fees. I said "while I have you on the phone, just want to confirm the final payoff amount if paid off Friday. Got the same $ amount as Monday. She also stated the $35 fee will suspend any escrow accounts, like payment of property taxes and insurance if they existed (I paid those directly myself). I asked her TWICE if the $35 is covered as part of the final payoff - she stated very clearly "Yes". Thursday 03/18: Sent ACH payment from NFCU as normal with the aforementioned amount. Friday 03/19: In the afternoon I logged into my Union Savings Bank account, expecting it to be @ $0.00. It wasn't. The Thursday payment was sitting in a "suspense" account, which I used to see years ago if I'd try to pay, for example, and extra $300 on the mortgage. It was explained that type of hold is for when there's not enough money to make a full payment. So I called Cincinnati Union Savings Bank (OH) and asked for the Loan Servicing. Spoke to a gentleman named Bryan. He told me the reason it was in sustainment was it was $13.66 from being paid off in full. I was STUNNED. I explained I had called two other times that week, and he stated "Someone must've given you the balance and not the payoff. You couldn't have spoken to someone in loan servicing". I said "No, I did specifically ask for Loan Servicing - How is that possible to see that $35 charge from Tuesday, which TRIGGERS the final payment / payoff being made?" He said "I have no idea". Bryan was trying to be helpful, but what he was telling me had no logic behind it. So I had to drive to the local Union Savings Bank (OH) branch and pay them the "remainder" that I tried to avoid all alone. Nope, they don't have an ATM like a normal bank would, so I stopped at a gas station, which of course the ATM didn't work the first try and I got double-billed for a $20 withdrawal. At the branch they said "The Cincy people like to go home at 4:30; they stop answering their phone around that time, so this will have to be finally processed Monday". So instead of it being a joyous time celebrating tonight with my family, I'm exhausted jumping through this headache. Never again will I do business with Union Savings Bank (OH). If they don't take care of this Monday and I accrue more interest over the weekend my head might explode. My mortgage, late Friday, is still showing over $1k balance remaining (I was paid way ahead by the way). Ugh. read more

I promptly got in touch with my bank and Mike from union savings and thought the issue was taken care of. (The payment came out if my bank on time and in January) Was just notified by credit karma that they turned me in for a late or missed payment ! Which messes with my credit score. Do not recommend. One of the most frustrating processes my wife and I have been through in our adult lives. Went through USB for a mortgage on a rental property, and the amount of miscommunication around what information they require was egregious and simply unprofessional. It was very evident that the loan officer did not know how to communicate well with underwriting and vice versa, not to mention communicate with us, and caused unnecessary delays in the closing process. Each time we provided requested documentation, we were told to provide something different or additional. This happened over the course of a 2 full months. Additional issues: 1. Loan officer miscalculated closing costs, which caused us to revise contract more than once 2. Asked us for additional financial information a few days before closing, and also asked wife why her employment status was "on leave" (she was on maternity) when he could've asked a month earlier 3. Told us 3 times the titling agency doesn't do remote closing, and we called the agency directly and they said they do Shocked and disappointed doesn't even begin to explain the disgusting level of incompetency and lack of transparency we experienced. **DO NOT GO WITH THIS BANK** We were supposed to close on our new home on 6/19 but the bank didn't start reviewing the application until 6/18. Closing was moved to 6/26 and the bank was unable to meet the new deadline. We had to send an amendment to our original contract and still have no idea on when we will close. We have 2 large dogs and an 11 month old baby, thanks to the delays from USB we are homeless as of today. We have had to reschedule painters twice and are still unsure on when we will be able to close. Better yet, USB continues to be unresponsive. If you loved the 80s, you'll love this bank. They have nearly zero technology. Their phone rings with a busy signal. They don't have online account access for the mortgage (or at least not ours) or the ability to make a payment online or over the phone (we had to take a check to the local branch). We actually received an EFT confirmation (which we had to submit via snail mail in writing) with a HANDWRITTEN confirmation on it. The only great experience I've had is than when I told their customer service rep they were 20 years behind, she responded, "oh - we're much farther behind than that." Terrible experience - RUN This was the single worst customer service experience of my life. Practically nonresponsive through the entire process and took several months to even get close to a closing. Appraisal was not shared until a few days before closing and it included comps that were two neighborhoods away. Loan officer said he was having conversations with the appraiser about updating it and that the appraiser was not open to changes. Continued to try and shove me into a loan that would require PMI. After several non-responses I contacted the appraiser directly and they had NOT EVEN HEARD FROM USB since sending the original appraisal. Not a trustworthy organization. read more

Just bought a house with USB as the lender. Do not recommend. They consistently were unprepared, missed deadlines, and lied to cover up their mistakes. Initial closing was scheduled for 11/6, on 11/4, the loan officer called me and asked if I had heard anything about the appraisal (which is completely the lenders responsibility.) The next day, they called to tell me the closing would have to be rescheduled as there was a USDA delay. This was a lie to cover they forgot to schedule the appraisal. Closing is moved two weeks out, two days before new closing, loan officer calls me and tells me there ACTUALLY IS A USDA DELAY now, and moved my closing again. I almost lost the house I was buying because they are incompetent and unprepared. read more

I wish I could give them a 0 because my experience with them was nothing short of being absolutely terrible. Their mortgage process was laughable to say the least. They kept mixing my loan application up with another client and gave me conflicting information whenever I asked for the status of my loan approval. There is a loan processor their named Shannon who asked me for the same information multiple times. She provided the worst service that I didn't even know was possible. Think of the least impressive thing you've ever seen and it still probably wouldn't live up to how bad her service was. Worst lender I've ever "worked" with. After numerous solicitations, decided to go ahead and refinance. There communication is horrible! After going weeks and months throughout the process I would reach out only to be passed off to another officer. 3 times! After months of no contact after scheduled appraisal. I had to call 5 different people to get a hold of someone. Finally we get appraisal results only to be surprised it came in 80k below market value. The appraiser used 3 non comparable comps from a neighborhood over 2 miles out w/ no adjustments!!! They're unprofessional, lack communication, and have no knowledge about the market. Very poor communication and promptness. Applied for a loan and was preapproved in 10 minutes and confirmed a 30 year fixed at 3.5% with 25% down payment. The next morning Tina called to state the loan numbers can back needing an additional 12000.00 for that agreed loan rate (in addition to the 25% down payment which is after they confirm your score and account balances) so I moved it to a variable at 3.75% with the same down payment. I felt this was nothing more than an after thought and gouge for profit or commission. Following that I moved along that day same day providing Tina with dozens of requested documents and confirmed receipt. I followed up 7 days later requesting a status update and was told they are waiting on the appraisal. I asked about final loan approval and was told no problem "you are gold". This was between April 8 thru April 15. On April 26 I got a call from Tina stating the underwriter could not write the loan with nothing to support statement and the underwriter not having an accounting background to understand a long form tax returns. She was short and defensive. I was upset because they sat on their hands not even looking at the doc's for more than 10 days all the while the seller waited and we prepared to move our daughter in early May. We also stopped looking at anything to rent or buy after traveling from out of state to find something. Following that call I contacted a credit union in Ohio I have dealt with to inquire about being able to do a loan in Columbus. The CEO called me back and forwarded a contact to assist. The following day that credit union approved the entire loan under the same conditions except not 12,000.00 gouge or profit incentive and at the 3.5% fixed for 30 years. The above is clearly detailed, supported and pure with no intent to insult anyone. If you are interested in finding a loan go to another operation. Union Savings Bank appears to be some what of a predatory lender but certainly not with high standards, ethics or principle. read more

We just refinanced with Union Savings in March 2017 and could not have been more impressed with both their price and their service. Prior to selecting them, I had called 5 different banks to get an estimate of closing costs. All 5 banks offered me the same interest rate but Union Savings had the lowest costs; we spent a little under $500 all in and this was almost a grand less than the next lowest quote. Our loan officer, Jerry Wimmers, promptly answered all of our questions. He walked us through the entire process and made sure things went very smoothly. We applied on Friday the 10th; the loan processor called on Monday the 13th and the appraiser was at our house on Tuesday the 14th. In just two and a half weeks, we were at the title company signing our closing paperwork. If you're thinking of buying a house or refinancing, save yourself some money and definitely get a quote from Union Savings. read more

Disclaimer: We closed through USB at the end of July so this review is coming several months after the fact. Our landlady was selling her house so we had to move. We had the money to afford purchasing a house, so we decided to pull the trigger and buy. We got approved but only after it taking so long that I assumed I had gotten scammed and was preparing to take action. When we finally got approved (which took 3 weeks and 4 pushed self-imposed deadlines instead of the few days it should have), we found a few places but need to get the preapproval letter resent with an increased slightly larger amount to put the offer in. I and my realtor sent emails marked urgent to request the new letter on a Thursday... we got a response on Sunday evening... after we lost the opportunity. We eventually found another house and my father purchased it for us for cash so that we could buy it from him and not have to deal with the slowness. My dad closed on it in May and the lender was aware of the situation the whole time but for whatever reason wouldn't let us close until the end of mid June. During the review period where we were getting insurance and all of that put together, our lender sent us a NASTY email saying that he will "no longer work with Geico" to get the required information to them that they needed to finalize our policy. he claimed to have sent the documents 4 or 5 times and passed this task off to me even though it was entirely his responsibility to take care of it. I called Geico to take care of the insurance issue and it turns out that the idiot at USB was sending Geico encrypted files that they could not open. Geico deals with hundreds if not thousands of requests every day. They don't have time to figure out how to decrypt every encrypt file they are sent. (Sidenote: when I called Geico, they were fantastic and we had it all squared away in about 3 minutes. USB took several weeks to give up and tell me to do their job). Due to the incompetence of USB (and some scheduling conflicts on my side that was not USB's fault in any way), it took an extra 4-6 weeks from the initial estimated close. The only good thing was that since my dad technically owned the home, we had a place to go when had to leave previous residence. Long story short, USB has TERRIBLE customer service, and created by far the most stressful 3 months I've gone through. If you decide to go with USB and you get a response from a Brett L. RUN THE OTHER WAY! It would be better to spend a higher closing cost or to continue to rent than to have to deal with lazy egotistical, arrogant, self-righteous buttmunch. read more

After many transfers they figured out there was a miscalculation in escrow. I called many times and spoke with different people and received different answers. When the home valuation came through, mind you it was an inspector sent by Union Savings Bank they flat out said we do not like the appraisal and said we would have to put an additional $18000 down. We were under contract and were close to closing leaving us no other option but to go through with the loan. Thankfully the previous home owner cut us a break and took $5000 off of the asking price but we still had to come up with an additional $13000. I expressed my frustrations and was transferred over to the manager and said he could help out with a credit which was not even close to making the situation right ($250 closing credit). We closed in October of 2022 and I am leaving a review now because there have been more problems. Union Savings Bank has been shorting payment to our insurance company for 4 months. I contacted our insurance and they assured me they have been sending the correct bill and I believe them. Do not fall for the low closing cost marketing as they will just get your money some other way through the process. I applied for a refi from Union Savings Bank, who currently holds my current mortgage as we enter our tenth year out of fifteen. They know me and I thought I knew then, Ten years ago it went very smoothly. But this time, once they got me to sign up for the refi it has sucked. The communication has only been when they needed information. They refused to respond to any emails. They asked for info I gave them everything within 2 days. Our credit scores are very high, well above 750. After a few weeks I asked for an estimate and was told 6 weeks from application. Wow, not great but we were three weeks in so it was what it was. Then, I was told we were approved and the appraisal was not needed, then six weeks went by and I received an email from a closing co. I filled out their book of information which of course was everything I'd already told Union Savings and then it kicked out a closing date of NOV 2. 73 days,10+ weeks from when I applied. I have contractors lined up to start work. I have a van on order and now it all has to be pushed off. Never again. read more

My wife and I refinanced through USB and it went well enough to use when we decided to try an investment property. USB consistently dropped the ball even though my partner and I had provided information they needed on a same day basis. We had to get an extension due to their lack of performance. We are in the process of buying a home and chose Union Savings based on experience we had 6 years ago. Not the same bank at all. The loan officer collected all the docs and information needed to begin and assured us the 45 days closing date would be no problem. 30 days in and have not been able to get an update on closing other than sometime in September vs mid August. And sometime?!?! Not even an appraisal date! The sellers needed answers for their next purchase. I did not receive returned calls and even called supervisor and managers. My gut told me they were not going to deliver. The next day I started looking for another solution. I found one. After just two days of working with Sibcy Cline Mortgage services the appraisal has been ordered and our loan has been submitted to underwriting. I requested my original docs from US and when I arrived the teller gave me my entire file. The loan officer had not done anything! We have excellent credit and more than qualified. There was no excuse other than they are selling what they cannot deliver. They are messing with people's lives, their dreams and their money. It's a crime. Shame. read more

I have had my mortgage through union savings bank for around 25 yrs. No problems really as I just drop off my payment at drive through window, I have had major issues in the past with the older men loan officers, but another story. So I ran out of checks with my fifth third account, which is how i pay, and the checks still haven't come in yet. So I ask, can I pay with my fifth third debit card, which is linked to my checking account, an no, I cannot pay other than check or cash, since I have no account with them? Of course I cannot take that amount out at an atm, so i have to go into the bank to make a cash withdrawal. Really??? I work 14 hr night shifts so getting to a bank in person is a real problem !! And the bank card is not a credit card. It comes directly out of my checking account! I just find this frustrating and irritating. I feel their methods are antiquated and need to be upgraded to today's technology. Rant over! read more

The appraisal dept. did not take interior pictures, even though they are supposed to. Well it took over a week to even get a response and my husband and I both had to call the department. And now no one is pushing the loan through or answering emails or phone calls. So we have no idea when we'll have a closing date and our lease is up at the end of month! This is by far the most awful bank to ever try and do business with. My husband and I were 3 weeks from closing on our new construction loan when the bank came back and asked for an additional almost 40,000$ down. We were told that since its a portfolio based bank they "can do whatever they want." This was after we had paperwork showing we needed x amount of money down, after our appraisal was well over what we were building for. We attempted to add a co-signer and we're told that because of health issues they would not allow it, which is completely discrimination. We thought we would scramble and come up with the extra money but decided to let it go because if this is how a bank treats customers in the beginning we couldn't imagine what the 30 years would look like. Our mortgage officer also tried persuading us to go to another bank because she was leaving and wanted our business elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone. They are scam artist and I highly recommend staying away from this bank! I am helping my 81 year old mother that is suffering from Chemo brain and they are definitely taking advantage of her. For example, we pay the exact amount 5 days before the due date, and the next bill will say that we did not make a payment and we have a late charge. When I call, they say "oh sorry, we applied it as an extra principle payment, and we will fix it". They keep doing things like this. They are nice when you call and will fix it, but how many people do not catch this and pay late fees. The bank is either ran by idiots or this is intentional. read more

Lied and stoled my money BEWARE !!! First off I've never complained online ever, but Union Savings Bank has the worst customer service all the way up the ladder. They stole money from me then closed my account without my consent. Then they said they sent me a check for the remaining balance I had in my account I'm still waiting for that check. I'm a business owner of 10 years and I have 20+ years in customer service. So I know what good customer service looks like. The regional manager (BOB) didn't even try to return my multiple phone calls or messages I had left for him. Beware they will charge any and all fees they can for their Free checking account. I will also follow up if they decide to do the right thing. But there again I'm dealing with untrustworthy greedy Bankers and we all know where they are on the trust factor. I have no idea how they can sleep at night. My six figure deposits will happily be snatched up by any other financial institution. Nick G read more

I would recommend that you do not do business with this bank. Their internal departments have a serious lack of communication. Which really screws over their customers. There was a problem in my escrow account. It was solved in one week. That was about four months ago. The escrow department has repeatedly solved the problems six more times. But I continue to receive phone calls and letters from other departments in the branch saying that I owe them $80. I know it's a very small amount of money but it wasn't my mistake and I call bologna on the whole situation. I'm done. Thank you read more

Union Savings bank is horrible. Extremely slow with home finance. I have been a customer of theirs and refinanced away as soon as possible. Now I am selling my home to one of their client and its worse.....we have been asked to delay original closing date by 10 days. Even after 2 of the morgage officer have been doing this for 30+ years. They care about nothing. If you want the "run around" and alot of waiting and not knowing anything this is the pace to be. If you would like to work with honest people and reputable people then stay away. Horrible!!!! read more
