These guys are amazing! I started going there because they got great reviews for being honest and doing good work. And they do not disappoint on either front. They always give good advice and never try to up-sell you on work that you don't need. And when you do need work, their prices are very fair. Their oil changes are very quick too. I am usually out of there in a half hour. Today I came in because there was a burning smell coming from car. Even though they were busy, they had my car up on the lift in 15 minutes. It turned out I had a plastic bag that caught on an exhaust pipe underneath the chassis. Went and got a quote. Seemed high - I asked about the hourly charge , they wouldn't reveal their hourly price then said pick up our car and they don't want to do the work. Seems very shady and bad business practices. As you can see by the owners reply below, he is now covering for his nasty attitude and lack of communication. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the "Customer is King" - the "I'm doing you a favor and take my price or leave it attitude" and defensive nature against the pricing discussion is not a good way to run any service business. I'm agreeing with Gabriel, the review from 3 days ago just below mine. Purchased brand rear new tires and bought my car had to have them mount and balance them which they did. Soon after I bought the front tires, again brand-new , to have them Mount and balance them, as well as do the alignment. After getting the car back the car had a vibration and the alignment is still off. They told me the reason alignment is off is because the rim is bent, I asked him how come they didn't see that when they balanced them the first time , I was answered with" well we see it now". Not to mention the alignment was $140... Then the second time I bring it back they check it out and then proceeded to tell me all the issues that they notice with the car.. Oh now all of a sudden you so observant?? but when you was balancing the rim you couldn't tell that the shit was bent tho? This place is an overprice Daddy's hand me down with no integrity or customer service. They only get business because their location. They will never get a dollar of my money and I suggest anyone reading to stay away from them read more

I went to Union Lube Shop first to get a normal oil change - I didn't feel like schlepping out to the Valvoline oil change shop out on 22 and waiting, then schlepping back. When the sign out front says 10 minute oil change, they meant it - it was in and done in 10 minutes. I came back the next week to have my headlight bulbs replaced. They said 40 minutes, it was done in 40 minutes. It was priced below what Pep Boys wanted, including bulbs. They found a loose socket in one headlight and were able to get a quote on a part from their supplier for the next day, and they installed it at a very reasonable price. Then my wife's car started to make loud noises - they were precise and happy to break down costs of parts, labor, etc. in order to give me the full picture. They were comparable to actual parts pricing, and their labor rates were reasonable. In the end we sold the car to them for a reasonable price, given the required repairs. Joe and the team that work there were beyond professional, helpful, and friendly at every turn. They returned calls on time, they didn't try to scare or upsell, and they seem to get the fact that they exist because of the great service they provide. Union Lube Shop is the kind of business older generations would respect. These guys are about honesty, integrity, and reasonable prices. I brought my '05 Honda Pilot for a 120K mile service here. What caught my attention was that the owner listened to the car's service history and told me what on my service list from the dealer I DID NOT need. This is what you look for in a mechanic; They put their long-term relationship with you as a higher priority than the guy looking to make a quick buck. From 3 Stars to 4.5 Stars - See below: Friendly staff. Even though I brought my car in the afternoon, they were able to replace all 4 brakes in the same day. I would have given them 5 stars, but found out afterwards that I would have saved $150 if I had it done by another repair shop. Overall - They were pricey, but professional and the service was what I would expect from any mechanics. In regards to your response, I tried calling but the manager said you were not available. Visited my hometown on my birthday and noticed a screw in one of my tires. First tried a place on Salem Road but there wasn't a place to park. Then tried a place near Five Points and was told I'd have to wait 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Drive into this place on Tyler and Stuyvesant (I remember it as an Amoco station years ago) and they fixed it on the spot at a fair price. Certain members of the team have an attitude and the business decided to implement a $25 minimum for credit cards that falls just under the price of a regular oil change. I'm fairly certain that the legal minimum is $10, but legality aside, it's just not customer friendly. He wondered why I would drive an awd car when I come from a state that doesn't snow. I gave him my out of town license yet still wanted my "real" address where I'm currently staying in jersey. Then he told me my car needed syntec oil. So I wondered whether they even have experience on working on regular cars like mine. lol. Come to find out that my brake rotors and pads were completely shot, my front tires were worn down, AND that an animal of some sort chewed up internal wires! As you can imagine, the cost of fixing all this wasn't cheap, but when we spoke through all the parts and work that it entailed, my wife and I understood. So we got the work done... Really great service! I took my beat up Camry for an oil change knowing there were some other issues that they'd catch as well. I got a call about the oil change being done and they also let me know there were some issues with the car, as was expected. Instead of just telling me what was wrong and telling me I had to get them fixed, they took me to the garage and opened up my hood to show and explain to me exactly what was wrong and what they'd do to fix it. They even put the car on the lift again to make sure I understood what the issues were. They didn't pressure or scare me into anything which I really appreciated. Also a few months later, when I was unsure about something in a different car, they inspected it free of charge. Since taking my car to Union Lube on December 2013 for an oil change, it has broken down five times since then. I never had an incident prior to that. Today is May 30, 2014. My car has been in that shop at least once per month for "repairs". Every time I took it there, they told me it was fixed only to be stranded again three to four weeks later. On one of those occasions I was stranded on the New Jersey Turnpike with my 5 and 7 year old daughters in a blind spot, trucks whizzing by narrowly missing the car as we waited up on the embankment waiting for a tow truck for the third time. Finally on the fifth occasion I took it to a different mechanic, because something was not right. It was the belt again. Union Lube repaired it about a month ago. The new mechanic stated that the belts were improperly installed, they let loose and ricochet through the inside of the car causing extensive damage. He also pointed out the repairs performed by them were faulty and had they been done properly the first time I would not have been stranded all of those times. This was my experience, I am sure I am not alone. Union Lube's gross negligence and incompetence has cost me thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs and even more disturbing and disheartening, compromised the safety of myself and my family. I was referred here. The worker, I think George saved me $20.00 by allowing me to use a coupon which he said did not apply. He said I needed rotors and pads because the brakes were thin or low, the battery leaked (weak) and rotated the tires for $19.95. He seemed nice. I researched prices and found a place a couple of miles away and the worker tested my car and did not hear any squeaking and that my brakes were ok for another 30 days, the battery at the 75% of life left and he put the best tires in the front, after the worker at Union Lube rotated them, less than 24 hrs. before. He Union Lube) quoted $295.00 for brakes and my brakes were done for $195.00 yesterday. I saved $100.00. I returned and asked what happened and the nice guy" turned ugly. Another man there saw the tires should not have been rotated and gave me a $19.95 credit. He should have returned my money; I don't need to return there; I'll never use the credit. I went there before and they patched a tire in minutes. I had a favorable opinion of the business then. This time, the guy presented like a rogue. read more

Carl Sil in the last week I've been coming to this lube shop for years, and never have I experienced such horrible service. I brought my car over for a valve gasket change, paid $1100 for this job. I got my car back, in 2 days it started smoking again. So I wouldn't accuse them of a bad job I took it to a different mechanic shop just to be sure it wasn't the valve cover gasket. It was the valve cover gasket. My new mechanic told me one of the nut was not fasten and the gasket wasn't aligned properly. With that knowledge I took it back to the lube and bought a new gasket out of my pocket with me. They look at it and told me that my valve cover was no good and if I bring my own cover they're going to do the job for $900 more for that one side. So I took my car and brought it to my new mechanic and he install the gasket properly with out me have to buy a new one. They will never see a penny from me again. I bought so much referrals to this shop, and for the love and greed of money cause I spent it over ther so much they won't admit they were wrong. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would do that. One star is a compliment. I have used this shop before for routine oil changes now and again. There was a rattling sound coming from inside my hood on the left side. They checked it out, said I needed both engine mounts replaced, totaling $611. Thinking that was rather odd considering I'm not an abusive driver and my car is only 4 years old, I went to my father's mechanic whom he's used for the past 30 years. The problem was simple: the rattling was coming from the engine cover that had a loose snap and all I needed to do was put in a sponge or piece of rubber from preventing the plastic lid to rattle against the place where it snaps! He even showed me my engine mounts and showed me they were properly intact!! NOTHING WRONG!! To think these crooks could have pulled over $600 from me!!!unbelievable.
