Leave the station by the main entrance on Craven Road and you are met with a depressing array of tourist traps and uninspiring sandwich bars, or opt for the sterile lobby of the Hilton ... when all you have to do is walk a few steps along a bit of Regents Canal for much more pleasant surroundings. The Union Bar & Grill was one of the first places to open up when this section of the canal was first opened. The area has now been fully developed with office HQs and a fair number of chains along Sheldon Square. I still like this place just as much, it offers a good selection of food and the usual choice of beers and wines at regular London prices. Nothing all that special, but special enough to while away an entire evening. On a sunny day it gets packed with office workers, not so busy at the weekends ...

Came here for a late lunch, and didn't have to wait at all for anything. Quick table, quick drinks, quick food, etc. Food was quite good - we had the fish and chips and a fried chicken sandwich (it was Friday, we needed some grease!). Portions were large, and well cooked, not the most flavor in the world - but it's a pub, it was pub food. Service was great, everyone was nice, and quick. Atmosphere looked pretty fantastic. Great big open room with lots of mis-matched tables and chairs. I'm going to guess that it can get quite loud and boisterous during the afternoon drinking hours. Overall, a good pub, maybe slightly overpriced, but the food was good.

This pub gets very busy on Thursdays and Fridays. Good for a drink with colleages, I would never bring friends here though.

Bleak food, slow service, sticky tables. There's not a lot of choice round here, but this place is grim...

We specifically came to try fish and chips, so we were lucky that The Mall Tavern was nearby. Each of us ordered fish and chips, and all of our plates were left nearly empty. My goodness, I have never had better fish and chips than here at The Mall Tavern. The fish was crispy, and the chips were perfectly salted to taste. I appreciate that chips in England are more like potato wedges than classic American french fries. Way less fried and way less salty, so you can enjoy the actual taste of the potatoes! I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese that we all shared. I don't know what kind of cheese(s) was used, but it was the perfect starter to our meal. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding for the first time. It was hard not to order another one!! We came in for late lunch, so the restaurant was empty. I assume they are much busier at lunch and dinner time. I also enjoyed the selection of beer while we waited for our food to come out. Next time I'm in London, I'm returning here immediately.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I ordered the beef roast, and we also shared a side of the creamy cauliflower, which was to die for. I truly cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. The service was personable and welcoming, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions and try new things. One of the managers (apologies I don't know her name) checked in on us several times and even encouraged a few of us to try additional menu items. The food came out quickly, and once it arrived, the table went completely silent because we were all too busy enjoying every bite. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting London and even the locals. A solid 10/10 experience!

One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.
