I love this place! We found through our trusty friends on Yelp and we weren't disappointed!! First off, there was a line, but it moved very quickly. I anticipate it's a family business and they are truly from the UK by their accents. Though it was busy, no one seemed rushed when answering our questions. It felt as though they really wanted us to have something we would find delicious. My boyfriend asked, "onion rings or pickles?" When three separate men in line unanimously shouted "pickles!", we knew we were in a good, and regular driven, spot. So he went with the staple- fish and chips. Delicious. Wonderful tartar sauce. Fries seemed like they were probably Belgian style. I had the Turkey Lurkey- essentially Thanksgiving in a panini. The meat and cheese was freshly sliced in front of us. Fried pickles- served with ranch. They were more of stackers than spears, which made them less juicy, and probably a lot easier to eat. Everything was delicious. My favorite thing about all though- how nice everyone was! They all smiled, seemed truly happy to be helping and seemed actually excited when you told them how much you enjoyed their food. Oh my maniac heart is fulfilled knowing that Union Jacks exist! I came upon this gem purely by accident. I love fish and chips and I'm from the coast of Maine where fresh is the only way to have your seafood. I have had some iffy fish and chips from places here in Vt, and usually am leery of trying it. I ordered the regular size fish and chips and holy sweet haddock was I in heaven, from the first bite of the just right batter encrusted flakey, tender filet. The chips were fine too,but that fish just made me want to keep eating until I burst! The portion size was phenomenal. You won't leave hungry that's for sure! I have been wanting to go to this place for a while, and I am so glad I did today. Went in there and got a classic fish and chips (regular). The service I got when I was ordering/waiting for my food made me feel really good and welcomed. They are doing in-person dining during COVID, and they are handling it extremely well and sanitizing everything regularly. A very clean environment to eat in. Food came out and I was astounded. I have never had better fish and chips in my life. Normally the fish and chips I've had were soggy and not crispy at all, but this was not the case. The fish was super crisp and flavorful, and the tartar sauce and malt vinegar made for an ultimate taste experience. The fries and fish were massive and the fries were cooked to perfection. They have fountain drinks, and that accompanied my meal extremely well. I literally (slightly) burnt my mouth because I could not stop eating it. I ended up stuffing myself and was full afterward. After I was finished eating, I went to leave and was given a friendly goodbye from the workers. This place is amazing. The staff is super cool and nice! I have some stupid food allergies and the double checked ingredients to ensure i would have a good dining experience! The deep fried banger was awesome! My wife and I were back in VT for our annual summer vacation. We returned to Union Jacks based on our great experience in 2017.My wife had the Fish and Chips which was again outstanding. She also enjoyed the Stewart's Birch Beer with her meal. Union Jacks also specializes in great sandwiches. I had a pastrami on rye with English mustard. The sandwich was grilled as a Panini and was quite tasty. I would have liked a bit more pastrami on the sandwich and would have preferred the pickle on the side. I enjoyed a Stewart's Root Beer with my meal. We also shared a side order of onion rings that were very good. Randy (owner) and his staff were very friendly and welcoming. Come to VT once a year for the Brewfest and have made it also a tradition to come to Union Jacks. We just love their sandwiches (my fav so far is the Cheeky Bugger & my fiancee's the Mexican). I had the beef & onion melt, which was an amazing sandwich. Bread was incredibly fresh, beef was perfectly done and the beer battered onion rings were perfect. Also ordered a side of the onion rings -- seriously the best onion rings I've ever had, absolutely delicious. My wife had the fish & chips, which she proclaimed as spectacular. I didn't get a taste of the fish, but did the chips and they were way above average. Not sure what other reviewers noticed about the cleanliness, but having read others' reviews I did look. The entire place was spotlessly clean. Even the floor shined in spite of the rain/snow/ice mess outside. Lots of interesting menu items, we'll definitely return soon. They didn't disappoint, I watched as they hand batter the large piece of fish before it goes in the fryer. They could easily pair the fish with frozen bag French fries but no fresh cut, skin on potato fries are the perfect partner in this dish. The shop is located across from the Subaru dealership on Shelburne Rd. It's in the same plaza as the Champlain Station USPS. Unlike most of the sandwich shops in Burlington, this place offers a wide selection of "unhealthy" but good sandwiches with a very reasonable price point. Most of the sandwich joints in downtown charge you $8+ for uber-tiny subs/sandwiches. This place offers large sandwiches for $6-7. One thing I like about this place is that everything is cooked to order. They make the sandwiches in front of you. When you take a peek inside the kitchen, it is absolutely sparking clean. Also, the staff here are super friendly. Although this place doesn't advertise organic / new-age style and gives off somewhat of a more commercial vibe, it is still a mom-and-pop place that is clean and offers consistently good sandwiches at a reasonable price point. I had a cheese steak with onion rings (forgot what's it called) and a rueben before and they were both excellent. Highly recommended for those who hate the vegan / new-age / organic BS that plagues Burlington. read more

Two stars because I've had other, better experiences at UJ's. Went in to order two wraps. They made the first one, no issue. The sandwich associate then made me an extremely small wrap and said "thats a puny sandwich without the vegetables, sorry." She then pointed out to the other sandwich associate how small it was. I was tired and hungry so I didn't say anything. I got home and realized half the wrap was just that, wrap. It had a very small amount of turkey, a piece of bacon and an insignificant amount of cheese. City market wraps are easily 4x the size for the same price. Just bummed about the whole experience. Easily the best sandwich place I've been to - hands down. Wife and I were visiting Burlington and decided to check yelp for a lunch place. I came across this gem and decided to check it out. They make everything from scratch there. They slice the meat and cheese right in front of you as you place your order; veggies are cut fresh in back; and fries and onion rings are cut/made as you place your order so no 20 minute old fries (always fresh). And of course the sandwiches are amazing. Lastly, the customer service is great. Friendly staff always with smiles on. I'll definitely be back here when I'm back. We pointed it out, and no problem, they opened it up and slathered some on (not quite what we expected). I ordered the beef and onion melt. Delicious! The onions in this masterpiece are actually onion rings! I really should have ordered a small. I always order a large, but with this sandwich, it was too much. I really enjoyed the jalepeno cheddar bread. My wife pointed out that the place was dirty. I didn't notice until she pointed it out. But she was right. The floors clearly had not been cleaned in some time. I did notice that the meat slicer had collected some scraps. Overall... Four stars. This little walk-in only fresh fast food place is great. 1) its something different. As my travels take me all over the country this is a place I would return to. 2) I had Ron's Reuben ... Best Reuben I've ever had. I LOVE this joint! I think it's a great sandwich spot and LOVE that it's owner operated, not a chain. The owners are cheery, and have very busy hands. We ate lunch here yesterday and a steady stream of people came in while we were there. It's clearly popular, and it's popular because everything is fresh, the people behind the counter are fabulous and it's a great deal! As an aside, I especially like that they actually close for a short period of time to go on vacation each year. This is a great local business that servers some really awesome food. I was a little worried when it first opened mainly because of the location and the fact that Burlington doesn't do English fare well. However, this place is perfect!
