What a treat this place is. The ambiance is an old bus station which offers the place a unique ambience. We chose the Thursday night date night package which was $69 for a shared starter, choice or meal, and then dessert. Fair enough price. The food was over the top delicious. The steak was "perfectly" cooked and the Demi sauce was outstanding. Shrimp and grits also a star. Portions were leaned more than less. You wouldn't leave here hungry. Service also a star. Exquisite. Sunday dinner was . The salad with guava vinaigrette was so complex but also simple. Every bite tasted like a new dish. It's seasonal so go right noww ( I hear the dressing is on the strawberry fields salad!!) The lemon chicken francaise- perfect balance of lemon and cream. Every thing was very good! Ordered Mac and Cheese for the kid, it was good. Ordered Jerk Chicken and Ox Tail Ramen. Wife and I split the meals. Ox tail dish had amazing flavor, Ramen was fresh and delicious. Added twist was the southern collards in the dish - also Amazing! The Ox tail itself was not rendered enough to my liking, but, edible. If this chef makes this dish this way always, I would order it every day and twice on Sundays. The Jerk chicken was "too nice of a guy"... Subtle flavors, other wise it was also very good. I didn't care for the seats, hard and uncomfortable, but that Ox Tail Ramen would bring me back! read more

What a lovely gem in the heart of state line. The service was phenomenal. Waiter was so attentive and considerate. He even asked the Chef to customize an order for our team member since the menu changes so frequently and we didn't see what we originally came in for . The food ?! So darn delicious! We enjoyed oyster baked oysters and crab hors d'oeuvres. I had the duck curry and it was flavorful and DELICIOUS. I loved this dish. My coworkers had other things and it all looked so good. No complaints and happy customers all around! This was a very cozy atmosphere . We thought we were over dressed but no we were just fine !! My wife and I went here for our 26th anniversary and were treated like absolute royalty. This is an amazing restaurant with amazing service and amazing food. For an appetizer we had the croquettes and they were amazing, as was the sauce. For the main course my wife had the red snapper with shrimp étouffée and okra with coconut rice. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the Oxtail Ramen and plantains. The portion size is incredible. I couldn't finish it all. The plantains were cooked to perfection. For dessert they complimented us (for our anniversary) with the "Chocolate Bomb"-and it too was delicious. This restaurant is a must try. The price is right for what you get. We came here for my friends bday and the staff were all so welcoming and sweet. Service was quick and the dishes were delicious! For appetizer, we had crab beignets (amazing) and then I had the Szechuan duck for entree and my friends got the steak and the jerk chicken. The Szechuan duck was not spicy at all (I wish it was a little) but still delicious. It was a perfect medium rare and the flavor was good. The jerk chicken was delicious and actually more spicy than the Szechuan dish. I also tried some steak and thought it was okay. The portions were all huge though for the prices we paid which I appreciate. We all had to get to go boxes for our entrees. Dessert was also delicious and I had the seasonal sorbet which was the prickly pear and watermelon and tasted divine. Since it was my friends bday she got to choose a dessert and it was on the house. They also sung happy birthday for her. For drinks I had the lavender haze which was yummy and had a bubble on it. It tasted like spiked lemonade and presentation was cute. My friend had the luggage and it came out in a suitcase and when she opened it there was a margarita inside with a lot of smoke that came out. Very fun drink presentations. For ambiance here it was a bit loud actually. We found ourselves having to speak pretty loud to hear each other so I'm not sure about this place being for a date night but maybe a get together. Most tables we saw were groups anyways. We were also told they're opening up a patio area soon and got to go outside and see it. WHAT HAPPENED!!! This used to be our "hey let's go out for a fancy dinner" place. Family and I went out for dinner one Friday night, and we were horrified at the difference in the price of the food compared to the quality. Let's start at the beginning. Service was friendly and we didn't want for our servers attention. The bad started when we tried to order drinks. We got about 5 no's when ordering, and the only beer worth drinking was a miller lite because their tap was "tapped" out. Next was our appetizers. Crab Beingnets: good, but we have had that each time we came here and our first time was when they opened the place, Curry Chicken Roti: I could make a better curry than that out of a packet, and the "roti" were like small tortillas. Then came the mains which included: a crab leg Jambalaya that looked and tasted 2 days old, Jerk Chicken that had 0 jerk to it. It tasted like rotisserie chicken with under seasoned, watery rice. We used to get plantains but there weren't any. Bourguignon Lasagna was OK, but the most depressing dish, other than the dessert (more on that later) was the Pork Belly Ramen. I can't begin to express the love I had for the oxtail ramen the first time I visited Union 41. A giant bowl with rich hearty broth, plenty of noodles, fall off the bone meat etc etc. when I first tried it, I looked at the other 20 people and announced "Oh my god, this is amazing". Was it truly authentic Ramen? No, but was it amazing? Hell yeah it was. This "Ramen", I'm sure a true Ramen Shokunin would slap any one who called it that, had about as much broth and noodles as a pack of Top Ramen, and Pork belly that was chewy. The broth was very salty, almost like it had been left in a pot for 2 or three days and the water evaporated. Tonkotsu (pork) Ramen is my favorite meal, Something that takes 24 hours to cook better be amazing. This was the opposite of that. Want some good noodles that don't cost $30? Go buy a pack of Shin Ramyun at the store, poach an egg, add some spinach and whatever other additions you want. Voila, a delicious bowl of noodles. Or, even better, go get a bowl of Pho from Kalm Bistro. Ok, dessert, what the good god d@m~ was that? We have had the rum cake twice here, the past 2 times it was amazing! The rum syrup gushed out of the cake when we cut into it with a spoon. This time, they squirted a little bit of syrup on top of some sponge cake and served it with the smallest scoop of ice cream I have ever seen. It looked like a butter sized scoop. And the ice cream itself tasted like it had been left open in the freezer for a couple of weeks. This was a Friday night. Were it a Tuesday, I would still be upset but might have given Union 41 another chance. Not now. We spent $230 on food and 2 drinks. I think for that much, I should be allowed to be upset when the food turned out so poorly. We could have eaten at the waffle house and been way more satisfied. It was a night that the owner was out, supposedly back on TV. Perhaps the problem is that her staff aren't up to par or are not committed. It would be better for her to close the restaurant than for them to keep serving food like this. We will go to Juniper inn next time we are craving a fancy meal. I'm sad this has happened to what was a fine culinary establishment. Edit: thought about a few more things: #1: The $230 we spent was for 2 adults and 2 kids under 9. I didn't want anyone to think that we were spending $230 on a bunch of people and then complaining. #2: When I got my drink there was green lint on the rim. I know my server saw me pick it off but she didn't offer to replace the drink. That means it happens a lot. #3: We sat outside and were not impressed. The patio has so much potential that's been wasted on a few swings and a canopy with no lights. I just woke up and immediately started thinking about how depressing the experience was. I don't know what the secret is to get good food here. There are several 5 star reviews, I only wish one of them could have been me. I don't mind spending money on good food, even if the service sucks, as long as the food is amazing. It's like they bought the place, and then gave up on it. I'm not a chef, nor am I a business person. But I've watched, and read enough Gordon Ramsay to know that inconsistency will kill a restaurant. If you are going to charge top dollar prices for the area, then you better keep dishing out killer food, or else quit and focus on being a celebrity chef. It takes months to years to gain a loyal customer, but just seconds to lose one, and they lost some last night. Most customers won't complain, they just don't come back, and we won't be back. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was nothing short of amazing. We started with the crab beignets which were fried to an incredible golden brown while retaining the integrity of the crab. These were served with a grilled lemon to juice over top and a delicious remoulade. My husband and I both chose the scallop special for our entree and we were not disappointed. The scallops were prepared perfectly! These scallops earned a top spot for the best prepared scallops I've eaten to date with both the seasoning and cook being perfect. I don't use the word perfect often in the region when describing scallops. These are a MUST try. Our cocktails were delicious as well! The "lost luggage" was my husband's favorite (video provided! Such a fun presentation) while I loved the blood, sand, and whiskey. We finished this meal with two different desserts the rum cake (pairs great with "lost luggage")and the black forest trifle ( was made to be eaten along side of the "blood, sand, and whiskey"). The staff was appropriately attentive, being both very nice and helpful. I especially appreciate the open kitchen format. It just allows you to see the passion and prep work put into each place. Lovely service and really great food! The *only* complaint was how loud it was in there, but given its unique structure (it used to be a Greyhound bus station!), that's definitely not unexpected. Even when it got louder the longer we were there, the vibe stayed consistently great. Special shoutout to whoever the bartender was who made me one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Our first time was Sunday Brunch and it was delicious. We made a reservation and sat at the counter, I recommend this if you have a small party, and enjoyed watching the staff in the open kitchen. Since it was Father's Day we celebrated with fancy cocktails and the presentation alone is worth it. Brunch for us was chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits and oh my they were fabulous. The shrimp has a bacon gravy covering a grilled grit cake that was light and fluffy on the inside. The shrimp were lightly fried. A lovely take on a traditional dish. The waffle was wonderful and great fried chicken. Almost forgot the Mac and cheese balls fried and served with a light caramel sauce - totally complimentary. Chef T mentioned they were adding casual creative pizzas on the patio where reservations aren't necessary. The patio is shaded and private and offers space for kids to be kids. My husband calls this restaurant fancy casual dining - well thought out menu using seasonal foods in a relaxed and cheerful environment. Forgot to mention there are oysters too. Me and my girlfriend had dinner reservations for 5:45 on a Friday. We arrived and got seated immediately on the main floor with no problem, the dining area has a sort of quirky ambiance that I really enjoyed. Our server was a very pleasant young guy that gave great cocktail recommendations and seemed like he was trying to give us the best experience he could. We started with the filet mingon birra kebab as an appetizer, I had the blood sand & whiskey, and she had a dirty martini. The cocktails came out quickly and were honestly amazing, I don't generally like smoky drinks but after our servers recommendation I had to try, and it was rewarding, possibly the best whiskey drink I've had. The kebabs were delicious, cooked just right and the birra was flavorful. Up to that point it was a very pleasant experience, but we experienced a very noticeable lull after our first small plate was finished. For our main course we decided to share two more small plates and a large plate, the venison sliders, the crab beignets, and the 16 oz smoked prime rib with the lobster skewer add on. The small plates were both good, the venison sliders especially had a beautiful mixture of savory meaty flavor and sweet. The prime rib we were told was supposed to be served medium rare, which would have been perfect, but when we cut it, it was much closer to medium well. The lobster skewer was also missing from the plate. I normally don't ever send things back, and if it were Chili's I wouldn't have, but I don't eat prime rib cooked past medium rare, and at this price point especially I don't think it's unfair to want it cooked the way it's ordered. Our server was prompt and polite about taking the dish back, but at this point we had been waiting so long we were ready to just call it and leave. We didn't have an option to have it just taken off the bill, because within one minute of taking the first plate, the server brought another prime rib plate complete with the lobster skewer. This cut was cooked perfectly, but I'm not being petty when I say it tasted like they hadn't seasoned it at all, and the lobster meat was actually overcooked. When he noticed we hadn't really eaten the second prime rib our server said he would speak to the manager, which resulted in 10% off the bill, I would have much rather just not had the prime rib come back, a few bites of unseasoned prime rib was not worth the price. Some afterthoughts on the entire experience, the entire staff other than our server looked unhappy and overworked, and this was relatively early on a Friday night. The still water also tastes bad, which I would expect better from a place at this price point. read more

Wow! I'm from South Louisiana and carry seasoning with me every time we travel North. So I brought my little bottle of travel seasoning in with me and put it on the table. I got busted by the Chef/Owner "T" and with a smile she informed me that I could just put my seasoning back in my pocket because I would not be needing it. Let me just say, "boy was she ever so right"! Everything was so fresh and deliciously seasoned to perfection. I would recommend Chef T's cooking to ALL. We had a reservation for 530 on Sunday. We were seated immediately and the restaurant was about a quarter full. We weren't aware but Sunday is a family style without a menu choice available. You get what you get. I'm not opposed to that but you would have thought we snuck up on them because there were large gaps in the courses. If I don't get a choice of entree then you would think it would be prompt, but it was fairly disjointed. The food is good and I like what they were trying to do, but they didn't quite pull it off. My wife and I were served two of the smallest empanadas that l have ever seen. They looked like something that was about the size I would serve my 2 year old. They were good but, just like the rest of the food, left you wanting more and waiting for the next course... only to wait some more. From our experience and the other yelpers here, waiting for your food there seems to be a pattern. Our main dish was a luke warm brisket. The flavor was good but for a stewed dish that obviously has been made much earlier in the day, we sure waited for it. It was also luke warm, like it was cooked earlier in the day and left in the slow cooker that was off. All in all the meal quality was high, but it left us hungry and unsatiated. Here's what I got: - 1/4 of a garden salad - 1 small finger sized empanada - 1/2 a sweet potato with chorizo on top - 3 bites of brisket - 1/2 scoop of ice cream and a table spoon of bread pudding It's still some of the better food we've gotten in the tri cities area but it just didn't quite get there for us. We left a little disappointed because it's almost very good. We'd probably give it one more try on a regular menu day. read more

So things were slow to come out-for now-order as much as you want as soon as you want and if you know you'll want another drink, order it before you really want it. The gluten free pizza was really good! They have an oven for the pizza outside too. You can see they preparing it on a wood fired oven. You truly cannot tell that it is gluten free. I got a lavender cocktail--which I LOVED. My friend got the one that come in the luggage which was also really cool and the presentation honestly made it taste so much better. We had the friend Mac and cheese and omg it was great! The chef here is famous, like literally. They do accept reservations but I wouldn't go if you are on a time crunch, but again, they are new. The atmosphere was super fun, they have so many photo op spots with a tent and a swing, plus there's a stage! So live music is going to be happening frequently (super cool). I'm sorry pigs and a blanket and oyster and cheese with bacon crumbles They over charged our drinks the bar is small was not that busy didn't have the blocked ice for my husband old fashion which wasnt that big of a deal but the staff was not prepared at all for this event.The bartenders don't know what they are doing also they were out of alot of their alcohol selections for a private event that people paid for. It was hot as all get out in there will not be coming back. Food maybe good to people but the service sucks for events. It seemed thrown to gether.
