Would not give them any stars if it was a choice. So many complaints. Ordered contact lenses and was told the prescription may need to be tweaked, which it did. I talked to a rep about needing my lens tweaked in the beginning and he assumed it was for eye glasses and made an appointment to see the frame specialist. Wasted my time and gas because I needed to see the doctor about the prescription change. Went back again and was refitted for my left lens. After months of waiting and several phone calls, the new lens came in. Problem...it was the same prescription that I received the first time. (Are you f#&&#* kidding me.) I am still waiting on my new lens 8 months later. I had to use my old lenses (which were 8 years old and full of deposits) to take a glaucoma test because the rep forgot to put my new lenses in solution before the test. Another tech tried to get pressures on my eyes with a puff machine and gave up after around 15 to 20 minutes. Asked for help and discovered the machine will not work with someone wearing gas perm lenses. (What the Hell!) The worse part was Dr. Tom made me assume I was losing my vision to glaucoma and it was too late to treat. Even retired early because of this news. Needless to say...I went to a specialist in St. Louis and am being treated for mild to moderate glaucoma and my specialist said we are stopping this disease in its tracks. That place is a nightmare. Run for your life. Well I called about my lens after writing this review and was told that it was in. Went to pick it up and was told that it had to be cleaned and conditioned first and the lab person just went to lunch. This was at 2:45pm. Another trip... wasted my time and gas. So unreal. I cannot tell you enough how much I do not recommend Unger Eye Care. - takes days to get ahold of them - impossible to get pricing info on contacts, was belittled when I attempted - they told me one prescription and wrote a different one in my file initially - eye doc had to catch it/correct it - another staff member was sitting in my eye exam dictating and talking to someone else the entire time - they initially messed up my billing, & I had to correct it, delaying my order several days - took days to get ahold of someone to make a contacts order - once order was made, waited weeks to find out it actually was not made, I was charged but no order made - found out by having to call and text them over several days b/c no response - when they read the wrong mailing address for my contacts to be mailed to and were corrected they said "it's fine" - I just came out from the freezing cold - from getting my YEAR supply of contacts, HUNDREDS of dollars of supply that was mailed to the wrong address (the same address they read aloud) I can confidently say I worked harder to get my contacts than anyone at this business. I do not recommend them & will not be back. As someone who values customer reviews, I hope this saves someone else the unbelievable trouble & disorganization I went through. read more

I love the folks here! After I was denied service at crown optical in O Fallon because I did not want my drivers license left in their files, I called Harmony. to find out what other places took their insurance. I called Unger, and they were delightful to work with! They said all they needed was my Harmony. insurance card and nothing would be left in my files. It has been many years since I've been to Troy. I knew how to get to Troy O'Fallon Road from Belleville, but needed some directions once I got to Troy. Jan was spot on with her directions and very friendly. When I got there, Jan was waiting on someone else so I had plenty of time to browse. Justin came out to help me and was very good at helping me pick out the right frames for my face shape and haircolor. I did not feel rushed and at the same time did not feel like I was holding anybody else up. A delightful place with really friendly, knowledgable people! Unger Eye Wellness - Optometrists Near Me - Troy, Illinois

I've been going to Unger Eye Care for many many years and would recommend them without batting an eye... I now have to resort to writing to review because this place has now become like many other places that accept or DID accept Medicaid patients. Instead of being foreword with their current Medicaid patients on why they've become waitlisted, they just keep them at bay, because of reasons only staff knew. I absolutely understand now why they're keeping them at bay, but when your current patients (three children (one of which had eye surgery and needing a follow up) and one adult) have been waiting literally months to be seen, but waitlisted until an appointment is canceled or a no show between open and 3pm Monday through Thursday, then we get to take the spot, if we can even take that slot, because it's on their time not when we can schedule. I've tried to make an appt online through their site and get denied because of my insurance, yet I see slots available, so why are we waiting? Because they can only do a state eye exam between open and 3pm. They need to let their current patients know why we are being shoved aside... Just tell us the state isn't paying enough or isn't paying at all. By doing just so, we can ease the burden off the business and find else where to go if the waitlist is so long. Just say after this date we will no longer be accepting Medicaid. It's pretty crappy because even though us low income families work, we still can't afford private insurance, and we get looked down upon because of it... read more

Extremely poor customer service. They do NOT tell you ahead of time that you CANNOT be 10 minutes late without canceling your appointment. I was exactly 10 minutes late bringing my mother to her appointment as I took the wrong exit. Rather than tell me on the phone (u must call before entering) they waited to to come out to tell me after I got out her wheelchair and set the chair up for her. What doctor's office cancels you at exactly 10 minutes late? Let alone cancel a patient that is unable to get to an appointment independently. I will not reschedule her appointment there and likewise none of my family will continue their eye care at Unger. To treat an elderly patient like this in unacceptable. read more

Not bad service once you actually get waited on but usually you have to plan at least an extra hour more than necessary as they are never on time. Nice people but clearly no one owns a watch or thinks you have anything better to do. read more

The optometrists were nice but they were REALLY rude about the fact that I did not buy my glasses from them. They brought it up OVER and OVER. (8 times in a 15 minute period.) I understand that they get a great deal of their income from their glasses sale but the guilt trip was not necessary! read more

Dr. Tom and dr. Alice are great! They are both very knowledgeable and very pleasant. They thoroughly explain all options available when you get your eye exam. They make recommendations for you but do not pressure you into buying anything you do not want to buy. The staff that helps you with glasses selection is also very easy to work with. I have gone to Unger Eye Care for 2 or 3 years now, and have always had a good experience. I have waited for a short while, but not too long. The doctor and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They aren't the cheapest around, but you believe they care about your eye health, and I like that about them. I definitely recommend them. read more

Unger Eye Care has friendly staff and knowledgeable doctors, but there are two things wrong. First - they are running horrendously late every time we go there. I've never had to wait less than 30 minutes, and I have waited as long as 1 1/2 hours. Secondly, I feel like you are nickel and dimed the whole time you are there - do you want this state of the art eye test? Yes, well it's $27 and not covered by insurance. Do you want this state of art map of your retina? Yes, well it's $39 and not covered by insurance. I have learned to get a print out of my prescription and then go to an eyewear outlet or order them online, though, because their frames and lenses are really high. read more

I saw Dr. Under and got my first prescription for glasses. I could not afford the glasses that his office,so I went and had the glasses made at another reputable place. I could not see out of the glasses and had to return them. After a few months I decided to try again. Another doctor examined me and told me that the original prescription had been written backwards. The lens for my right eye was written should have been placed for my left eye. I finally got glasses that help me see correctly. When I contacted dr. Unger's office they denied the mistake and refused to give me a refund for my exam. Really poor customer service. read more

I had eye surgery when I was 4 years old. The only eye doctor that I had been to was at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. When it was time to go to an eye doctor that was not at the hospital my mom took my brother and I to Unger Eye Care. We grew up in Troy and are huge supporters for the local business! When we went there they had noticed that my eye was acting like it was before I got my surgery so they had me do eye therapy there. They treated me like I was their main priority the whole time. That was when I was 7. I am now 23 and I still go there. Yes, their lenses are pretty expensive, but they make the price of the lenses worth your whole visit. My mom was diagnosed with Glaucoma and they treat her so great there. They accept care credit which helps you with your glasses purchase so you will not have to go anywhere else. They have great staff that welcome you with open arms and also staff that helps you pick out the perfect frames for you. The only problem that I do have is even though they accept care credit it is hard to pay for such expensive glasses every month and if you do not get it paid off in a year your interest rate sky rockets. and also you do have to wait a really long time to get seen. You will have to wait to be seen even after your appointment time. read more
