TL;DR: Not going back I'd noticed this store years ago, but since it seemed to only sell underwear, I never went it. Finally, though, when I saw a sign outside mentioning Cut Loose, one of my favorite brands of clothing, I stopped in. The front of the store holds tops and the back of the store has a rack of jeans -- one brand I like is featured there (NYDJ). The rest of the store has underwear and pajamas. I have found at least one item at this store that I wear a lot -- a pair of NYDJ jeans. I prefer it when no one helps me, when I can look through the store on my own and decide if I like something or not. However, usually either the owner helps me or her associate does. Once I had both helping me when I was trying on bras. They also grabbed a bunch of tops for me to try on and exclaimed how wonderful they all looked on me. I ended up buying a number of tops, plus the bra that day. At one point during my fitting, one of the woman suggested I exercise. I'd never had anyone tell me that (except doctors and my kids and husband). I was offended, but still purchased the items. Of the items I bought that day, the only thing I've worn much is the bra. I keep trying on one item, but it just is not me. The others, well, I have worn them once or twice, but they are not me either. I've continued to go to the store, sometimes buying items, usually not. The most recent visit was my last though. I'd been to lunch with a friend, and parked in the parking lot where this store is located. I figured I had some time left on my parking stub, so went to check out what was on sale. The owner was there and asked if I'd shopped there before -- I was masked, so I understand that she didn't recognize me, but when I dropped my mask, she still didn't. That's okay. She asked my size, and pointed me to what she called cute tops in the front. I found nothing cute, in fact everything was pretty tacky in my opinion. I mentioned that the jeans I were wearing (same brand as they carry) were size 4. She told me they were too long. I countered that I liked my pants long and she argued if they were shorter they could be rolled up to become capris. read more

Excellent experience and highly recommend. I tried to find bras myself, wasn't successful, and then found this place. I walked in the door, she guessed my size, the first two bras fit like a glove, and I was out the door with three new bras in 15 minutes. The bras are priced the same as those at a department store. Before Underwraps, I never realized that for my entire bra-wearing life I had been wearing useless pieces of fabric instead of comfortable, supportive, good fitting bras. The owner took one look at me and found me two perfect bras. I have never experienced anything like it. I not only appreciate her knowledge but also her kindness and the fact that she was judging the fit of the bra, not me. I have been to many trendy bra shops where I have felt uncomfortable. This is an old reliable local store selling undergarments and other assorted womenswear. Shirlee gives personalized service like I remember from the shops I went to with my mom when I was growing up. I was on a cross-country flight for a work trip, wearing comfortable travel clothes and a sports bra, when I realized to my horror that I had forgotten some important things at home when I was packing that morning: real bras. So I started frantically searching and found this store right around the corner from where I was staying for the week. I made a call when I landed to confirm business hours and sizes available, and headed straight there from the airport. I regret not getting the woman's name, but the shop attendant was SUPERB! She recognized me from the call, showed me straight to a dressing room, and had me lift my shirt to get a sense of what she was working with. She came back a moment later with a bra that was almost perfect, but for a slightly too tight band. The next three WERE perfect, and I bought them all. Prices are right in line with a department store (I presume the shoppers complaining about "high" prices must generally buy their undergarments at a flea market or something, yummy). They also had a quite good clothing selection for such a small shop, as I discovered once my nightmares of free-range heaving beasts for the work trip subsided. She told me they can also get in any sizes not in stock easily. Next trip to Bethesda, I'm heading back to do some more open-ended, non-emergency shopping. The service is helpful and the location is ideal. The selection is wonderful. You can find fun PJs, practical or impractical undergarments, slips, socks, stockings, fun tees, sweaters, bath robes, and more. Perfect place to shop for a Mother's Day or Valentine's Day gift. Also, because of the small town feel of the shop, it is a comfortable place to go for bra fittings or to get a first bra. I wonder why anyone would bother with Victoria's Secret or Nordstrom when there we have Underwraps in downtown Bethesda. Shopping at an independent shop that cares about its customers is ten times better! read more

This store was extremely messy and unorganized. The only benefit for coming here was that the professional gave me great one on one service. They do not carry half of the lines I expected them to and the ones that they did carry, their selection was very minimal. I was so overwhelmed by the messiness, old smell, and cluster all over that I was unable to be in there for very long. My trip here was pretty disappointing to say the least. read more

I went in here today on a whim. Wonderful selection of very nice clothing and lingerie, albeit a bit pricey (~$40 for pajama pants). But, this is Bethesda. I walked in and a very nice employee asked if I needed help - I said I was just browsing. Another woman (I'm assuming the owner) interjected - "be aggressive!!" I thought at first she was talking to the employee, but a few minutes later she clarified that it was meant for me, because they have quite a bit of stock and the layout makes it so that some things can be hard to find. So the comment was to be aggressive while I browsed. I was confused, but figured it was just a misunderstanding. After some chat about pajamas, I started looking at the bras, and she said "if you're looking for a bra, I can help you with that too." I said "great, thanks - actually what cup size do you go up to?" She said G, and asked what size I wear. I told her. I have a small band size and very large cup size, and considering it's December, the coat I was wearing wasn't all that form-fitting and made me look smaller. She took a look at me and asked "are you sure you're that size?" "Yes, I'm very sure," I said. I've been fitted professionally at a store similar to this closer to my home in VA. It was weird - how do I respond to that to assure her I'm not BSing? Take off my coat in the middle of the store and point at my chest? Nah. But it's weird being made to feel like you have to. Then: "You have enough for the both of us?" I'm sorry, WHAT? I laughed out of pure awkwardness and just brushed it off. I have no idea what it was supposed to mean (I actually couldn't tell if it was a question or a statement/comment - inappropriate regardless). THEN: "A lot of women pay LOTS of money for your chest." I'm really confused as to how this store sells DD+ sizes but reacts this way when someone with a large size comes in. All I asked was what cup size they went up to, not commentary on my body. I get that sometimes, some sort of referential "verbal wink" or whatever is helpful to make things more comfortable. Sometimes. Even then it's a fine line, and there are still things that are not okay to say even though it's "just us girls." If I was out for drinks with my closest friends, whatever, sure. I JUST MET YOU. There was absolutely none of the no-nonsense, comfortable, professional and non-judgmental attitude I've gotten from other lingerie shops where I've been fitted and helped. No one goes into a bra shop to hear opinions or commentary on their chest size unless it's a simple "this style would be great for someone your size." A person's cup size is neither positive or negative. It is what it is. Unbelievably inappropriate. I'm more or less confident with how I look; I can't imagine how someone who wasn't confident would feel with attention being brought to it like that. The icing on the cake was that I moved away from the bras so that she'd stop talking to me about my chest, and I was idly looking at the pants. And she said "we also have a lot of pants that you wouldn't have to shorten! You're VERY petite!" I hadn't noticed!? I hadn't noticed that I'm five feet tall! Wow, gosh! One thing would be saying "we carry petite sizes too" like I seriously don't care if you notice I'm short and say something about what you sell. That's helpful. But another thing is making it yet another comment on body type. I just said "...yes. I am." And thanked her and left. read more

Underwraps is the only place I have found that can truly just take a quick look at you, get your bra size spot on, and recommend bras that will be comfortable on you (as well as steer you away from bras that won't be comfortable). The prices are a bit of sticker shock, but they only sell name brand items, plus you are paying for their expertise in bra fit. read more

Great personal and professional care. Shirley, the store owner, knows how something should fit, what looks good, and she knows how to run a business. Yes, the store is small, and doesn't carry everything that a department store might carry...but it has loungewear, lingerie, casual tops and bottoms that you won't see everywhere else. Apart from the general messiness and clutter of this store, the owner, Shirley, was extremely rude and hurtful to a friend of mine. She apparently became annoyed when my friend couldn't find something that fit and and remarked, "If you didn't have such a big belly you would be better off." My friend left feeling very demeaned and insulted. I'll never set foot in this place again. read more
