This was the BEST experience! All of the Underdog staff & volunteers I worked with were amazing. It was clear they truly care about the dogs. They are very knowledgeable about the breeds, the needs of the dog, and help to ensure the dog is a good fit for the perspective family. Bubba's foster mom was a gem of a woman. This group genuinely care about the animals and their welfare. I would not hesitate to rescue again from Underdog in the future! The entire process, from completing the application, to meeting for a home visit, to meeting him in person, to taking him home, to the follow up email congratulating us on his adoption and offering to answer questions has been fantastic! Underdog was phenomenal! I am very thankful for the Underdog group and the work they do! I am very thankful for the opportunity and acceptance to be Bubbas forever home. He's been with us less than 24 hours and already has a piece of my heart. Thank you Underdog

My first foster experience was not the best but I am trying it with a different rescue who appears more professional. But here's the story related to Underdog . I received a dog to foster. I bathed, bought toys, treats, worked on walking and potty training . I then updated them because she was having some vomiting and maybe adjustment to new food. I did update them because I assume they wanted to know all concerns or issues sine she did come from a puppy mill. Another night, which I took videos and sent on, it appeared she was having some respiratory distress; breathing heavy/panting for no reason. I've seen this in Yorkies. I updated Underdog and they said to bring her in; so I did. Underdog seemed more upset and blew me off and took her away from me. They said the vet didn't see any issues at last appointments. Myself and my other dog were bonding with her but they're like cut me off and put her in some other house. And they said if you want this dog who is seven years old, it'll be $1000. I was just so miffed of how rude and unaware of heart fosters put into these doggies. (The price they charge for dogs seems elevated compared to other rescues idk).

The vetting was kind of intense and I really appreciated that. Both my references were checked, the application was extensive, and they required a home visit. It shows that UDR really wants to make sure the animals are going to forever homes. My adoption process was smooth, everyone I worked with was incredibly helpful and friendly, the kittens were already fully litter trained (at six weeks) when they arrived with me and they adapted to their new environment very well. They were clearly well taken care of since the day the rescue received them, and they are thriving!

Today is one week that we picked up our beautiful adopted baby girl Lily (AKA) Maybell. We all love her so much and she has bonded with everyone in our home including our 9 month old male puppy. The pups are now inseparable and our family is now complete. Shout out to Amy and Her partner who fostered Lily and took good care of her and to all the wonderful fosters who open their homes to these sweet animals. Also to Underdog who rescued our beautiful girl and all the other furry loves they save.

But the bio on the site, which was written by the foster who actually lived the dog said otherwise. So the director, who hasn't spent time with the dog, is making adoption decisions for them without really knowing them. We met a few other dogs and filled out an application that asked us to list multiple choices for dogs, our vet's contact information, and 3 references. The director then selected a dog (that wasn't our first choice) for us and said we'd be perfect for this dog. We met the foster and the dog and there was literally zero connection. Our references told us they were "grilled" by a representative of the agency about our fenced yard, how we cared for our previous dogs, how did they know us, and what kind of people we were. One reference was admonished for the type of collar he used on his dog. He wasn't adopting a dog from them and his trainer is the one who recommended the collar. So how was this even necessary? A representative of the rescue called our vet twice. The first time they talked to the receptionist who answered their questions. Then they called back and asked for a vet or a technician. The receptionist told me they asked the technician detailed questions about our deceased dogs health care. The technician had to pull up the records going back close to 20 years. Then we got an email from the the director who chastised us for not having our last dog neutered. Even though our vet said it was healthier for him to not be fixed. Our first dog was fixed and he had cancer. The vet said this type of cancer was typical for neutered males. Our last dog lived a long and healthy life. So our vet was right, at least based on our experience. And the dog we were assigned was already neutered. So why did that even matter? We had to do a virtual phone visit where we put Warrior Dog Rescue on a video chat and had to show every room in our home, including opening the closets. They needed to see the inside of closets "to make sure we weren't hoarding cats or cooking meth." The adoption contract states that Warrior Dog Rescue reserves the right at any time in the dog's life to check with your vet to make sure vaccinations are up to date. And if they're not, they reserve the right to "impound the dog" and you are responsible for their legal fees. At that point, we declined to adopt the dog that was assigned to us. I understand you want the dog to go to a loving home, but to put someone through all of this to adopt a pet is excessive. And we weren't going the spend the next 10+ years looking over our shoulders worried that our family member would get taken away from us because a vaccination was a week or two off schedule. And then be taken to court over legal fees. This review is based solely on our experience and here to inform others of what to expect if they go through this rescue. Fortunately, there's other options out there.

Wow, what a wonderful shelter!!!…read more Rather than being in sad cages, all the cats are in rooms - some with other cats if they get along or need some socialization (and some alone if they are divas!) The rooms are all SUPER clean with lots of beds, perches, toys, litterboxes, etc. and the cats all looked very well cared for. They all got turns to come out of the rooms and explore the hallways for a while. The staff were great and very friendly. They knew a lot about the cats and who might be a good fit for the adopter - making sure that every kitty goes to a home that will let them thrive the most. If you are looking for a cat this is 100% a shelter you need to visit. You have to make an appointment but you will most likely have the place to yourself to get to know the cats. Well worth the extra bit of effort (we had recently gone to an adoption event at another shelter and it was so busy and most of the cats were off in "visiting rooms" so you couldn't meet them very well.

Rather than keeping the cats in kennels or cages, the cats can free roam within rooms that are specific to their personality type or medical conditions. There's a big main room for the social cats and kittens, another room for cats that are shy, a third room for cats with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities, and a fourth for kitties who are FeLV positive. The rooms have windows and beds and space for them to move around, which is so nice to see! This is a nonprofit no-kill shelter in a fairly small town so because they are volunteer based, they don't have long daily visiting hours. However you can rest assured that the cats get plenty of socialization and attention. These are very happy, very loved cats :) Staff here are also very active on social media so check out the Caring For Cats Facebook page to see all of the cats and their stories, to donate, or to participate in their fundraising events! If you're in the market for a fluffy new best friend, please consider making the trip CFC!
