We adopted our amazing dog, Max, from PPR back in October of 2014. He was a rescue from the Playa…read moreDel Carmen area of Mexico. This was our first time working with a rescue, so the whole process was new to us. We filled out a lengthy application online, but didn't mind as you could tell they were truly vetting the homes that the animals were going to. At that time, we noted that we were interested specifically in Max. The following weekend they had a meet and greet event at a Minneapolis pet store, so our family went there to meet him and his current Foster Mom. They both turned out to be wonderful! The next step was to have volunteers come out to our home to make sure we were providing what we promised (single family home/fenced yard, safe and clean place for him to grow and thrive). At that meeting, they went over the specifics of his adoption, including their requirement of a first right of refusal (if he didn't work out, we would reach back out to them before placing him in another home). We also agreed that we would never use a shock collar on him. Shortly thereafter, we connected with the Foster Mom via email to discuss a time to pick him up, what he was currently eating and how much, and what items he would be sent "home" with. I picked him up along with his vet documents from Mexico and also after he arrived in the U.S. Max continues to be an amazing dog. He does have some medical issues, but those weren't diagnosed until a while after we brought him home, and I don't know how the rescue could have known. I chalk the issues up to a likely combination of genetics, and possibly poor diet and traumatic events before he was rescued. We absolutely couldn't be happier with our adoption. I highly recommend this organization, and also love all the other programs they offer as well.

The PPR people were helpful and the adoption process went smoothly even though it was hella packed that day at Urbanimal. I do think it would be better if the foster parents came to the adoption events. I didn't want to wait to adopt my kitty, so I didn't get a chance to speak with her caretakers. It would have been helpful to know that she is not as social as she first seemed, and that she has a noisiness problem.

I appreciate all this charity does to help people during homelessness and helping them to get jobs…read moreand get their own apartment. I buy as many new items as I can afford for personal use and upcoming apartments. I also buy used suitcases, bags and sleeping bags so people and their children have places to keep their belongings and easier to move when the time comes. I try to deliver my current car load at least monthly if not more often. I have been downsizing my own house but still love to shop so I now shop for people living in this place and for pet adoption centers. Pet adoption centers always need blankets, etc. Some people appear to complain in their reviews but I don't see too many other people helping the homeless families as much as Sharing and Caring Hands does. If not for Mary Jo, then who? God bless her and those who work there.

This is my favorite charity. They are so good about…read morehelping people who really need help. Mary Jo Copeland who runs the operation started it many years ago and has grown it the organization is today. As Mary Jo once told me she helps people that are so poor they have no relatives. I wouldn't believe it unless I had seen it myself. She has done it all with private funds and refuses to take governmental aid. Cheers to her. Besides providing food, medical and dental care she has built a building with apartments for mothers and children to live while they are in transition to get their feet back on the ground. She provides them with food, shelter, daycare and clothing for them. In turn they need to show progress for finding employment, housing and education if they choose. I have provided clothing, food, time and my money to the organization as i can. My children also have and I will continue to in the future.

My partner and I were happy with the results from a private session with Lynn. The best takeaway…read morewas her advice on crating our dog, which has made the process far less stressful for each of us. She taught us a few training games which have been great to use too. After that private session, we were really looking forward to the Mastering the Leash Walk workshop. Based on the training philosophy listed on the company's website, Lynn's recommendation, online reviews, and the class description we thought this workshop would help us improve walks with our rescue pup. Unfortunately the experience didn't meet those expectations. One [very large and awesome mastiff] puppy took over the instructor's attention and barked for much of the workshop, which made it hard to engage in the class. The dog was sweet, but obviously had very little training (nor had it been neutered, which was surprising for a group class) and disrupted instruction and learning. Although we respect Cesar Milan's training methods, it was disappointing that Max seemed to recite book content without fully showing how to implement those methods in the leash walk. The class description said be ready to enjoy walking with your dog off-leash, by your side. We didn't expect drastic change, but at least wanted actionable information on improving the walk. We were hoping for more instructor attention for each attendee, not just for the loudest or one that needed the most all around training help. It would have been helpful to see the instructor work with the variety of dogs in attendance and reiterate each of the general training ideas he shared. I think the cost warranted a handout or a web page (just one page with an outline or a couple short instructional videos) dedicated to the workshop content. Ultimately, the grandiose description was misleading and was not fulfilled in the workshop. I think at best this workshop was an Intro to Leash Walking Philosophy, which left us feeling like money and time wasted.

Robert truly is the Dog Whisperer! We rescued an abused dog that started to show aggressive fear…read moretowards strangers soon after she turned 1 1/2 yo. We took her to obedience class and hired 4 other well known dog behaviorists with no results. In fact, our dog's aggression towards people began to escalate. She bit several of our friends, family and a neighbor. She broke through our front glass window twice when the mailman walked by. We were told by 2 seperate veterinarians (after an extesive work-up that showed no physical reason for her aggression) to euthanize her. We were hopeless, desperate and concerned for our dog's future as well as for the safety of our friends and family. I am so pleased that a friend referred Robert. I couldn't believe that our dog (labeled "devil dog" by others) was on her back and asking for belly rubs from Robert shortly after he arrived! All the other trainers we hired NEVER were able to pet her or come within a few feet or her...even after 3 months of private training. I am so amazed at the change we have seen and continue to see in our dog. She now welcomes our friends into the house and sits calmly waiting to give sloppy kisses! She looks to us for direction and responds to our commands. She is so peaceful yet happy around company now. We continue to work with Robert as his training techniques work wonders! Robert , we can't thank you enough for saving our dog....and our sanity!
