Inside you'll find a gift shop offering Wisconsin-themed items, along with a fridge that has different meats and sausages. There are conference rooms that look like they could be rented or used for small groups. In the middle of all this is the coffee shop. The coffee shop itself is not a large operation. There are some very nice seating options that include high tops, tables, and couches. The windows let in a lot of natural light. There is merchandise that includes shirts, coffee, and accessories. There were a few other people inside, and everyone was having quiet conversations. Got a nice greeting from the baristas. It looked like one of them was in training. Ordered a couple of London Fog Tea Lattes (a little lavender, a little vanilla, extra foam) in a mug. I would normally get a piece of pastry, and prefer a scone, but they didn't offer those, so I skipped that. The senior staffer was doing a nice job helping the trainee with the recipe and process. It seemed to be a helpful and caring relationship between the two. After a few minutes, we got our drinks. We usually just get the drink in a mug, but our drinks were made in a small coffee urn, and we were able to pour them after they finished steeping. That was a nice option. The drinks had nice flavor with the extra foam. However, they were just barely warm. We decided to drink them, but I did mention this to one of the staff afterward. It's a nice place to hang out. Next time I would definitely mention or ask for my latte to be hotter (around 130°F to 145°F).

Since this is first a coffee shop, I will talk about the coffee first. The cafe latte I had was excellent. The baristas were polite, friendly, and seemingly skilled. The shop also have a very nice atmosphere- cute, cozy, and clean. Unfortunately, the "internet" (and I use that term loosely) was complete garbage. When my webpages weren't loading, I tried to perform a speed test. For some reason, the connection sporadically cuts out. It was so unstable the test couldn't even perform the upload portion with multiple attempts. For me, a coffee shop is about so much more than just coffee. Because I wasn't even able to do the simplest work, I can only give Uncommon Ground three stars. If you don't care about the internet portion of "internet cafe," this is an excellent choice. If you need to do some studying, choose somewhere else. read more

I decided to try multiple things, so I got steak & eggs, eggs benedict, and corned beef hash. With coffee my total was still under $15. The steak was by far the best thing I tried. I asked for it pink, and it came closer to well done, but it was so tender and well flavored that I didnt mind. The eggs benedict was also very good, the sauce homemade and the ham thick cut. The corned beef has was my least favorite, it was comparably dry. One of the owners was the only employee working outside the kitchen and she was very friendly. I dont know why I would ever go back to Merrill, WI, but if I do, and it is before 2pm, I will stop back.

The menu is posted on the table in front of where you order and is pretty standard with appetizers, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and ice cream options. We ended up ordering a chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and raw onions. It came with choice of chips or cottage cheese and a pickle. I got the cottage cheese, but the pickle didn't show up. Overall the sandwich was pretty good and the chicken was moist. I appreciated the ciabatta bun that it was on so that it could absorb some juices without being too soggy to hold. I will say the sandwich did benefit with some mustard that I added when we got home. We also ordered the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and soda. This was an upcharge, but worth it for the onion rings. They were nice and crispy and didn't feel overly greasy. The burger was juicy and well proportioned. It definitely benefitted from the lettuce, tomato, and onion that we added. Overall, pretty impressed for a restaurant in a feed store!
