We arrived around 11 PM on a Friday and the place had great energy. It was lively without feeling overwhelming, and a few tables looked like they were celebrating special occasions, which added to the vibe. The music was excellent and honestly brought back a bit of that nostalgic, high school party feel in the best way. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were definitely strong and well made. The service stood out just as much as the atmosphere. The owner was incredibly pleasant and attentive, checking in with us several times to make sure we were taken care of. You could tell she genuinely cared about the guests. I also learned the owners are Trini and Guyanese, which I loved because it added a nice personal touch to the experience. As a first time visitor, I really appreciated that she thanked us for coming when we left. It made the experience feel welcoming and personal. I'll definitely be back to try the food. As a vegetarian, I'm hoping to make a special request since there aren't many Chinese vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm confident they'll accommodate it. We left after 1 AM and people were still coming in, so it's clearly a popular late night spot. Great location right off University with plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient. Overall, a great night, great energy, and a place I'll be returning to.

The location is not in the best neighborhood, and by looks of their front door (iron bars), it very well might be an unsafe area. The restaurant inside is clean, I'll give them that. Tables and floors were well kept and wiped down after guests left. There were a couple ladies behind the counter who were friendly and gave us some time to review the menu. Jason and I both ordered the same thing, goat curry (curry goat) with rice and peas and it came side a small side of steamed cabbage and a few sweet plantains as well. We took our food to go and all the way home it smelled go good! Immediately when I opened the container I knew right away, it was going to be a hit or miss (for me). The color or the goat was very yellow, which means, this curry was more turmeric than actual curry power. Being from the Caribbean, you know the difference between the 2 things.... Nevertheless, we ate, and we both liked the food, it was not something that I felt like I could not stop eating, nor thought 'wow I can't wait to go back'. The meat of the goat was tender for sure. The flavors that I'm familiar with, were not there. And I understand that this might be the restaurant's way of cooking, and their style, and that's totally ok, it's just for me this was not one of my favorite Jamaican spots.

Dutch Pot delivered a really flavorful and satisfying meal. I ordered the fried chicken mini with…read morerice and peas, topped with oxtail gravy, along with a side of plantains. Everything tasted great. The chicken was crispy, the rice and peas were well seasoned, and the oxtail gravy brought everything together perfectly. The plantains were a standout, sweet like candy and cooked just right. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. However, the ambiance felt more like a hole in the wall spot rather than a polished dining environment. That being said, the quality and flavor of the food definitely make up for it. Overall, it's a great place to grab authentic, delicious Jamaican food, and I'd definitely come back again.

I ordered the Grilled Conch, with fried green Plantains. The Conch was very flavorful and tender, they know what they're doing here because Conch is that Seafood if you don't know how to cook it, it will be chewy. The plantains was not my favorite, they were not pressed enough and I like them more on the crispy side, these were too thick, but they were okay. The lady that greeted me brought out a sample of the seafood Chowder and I wish I ordered some to go, it was delicious!! I also ordered some Conch Fritters, very flavorful, a bit too doughy for my liking, much better than any Conch Fritters I've had here in the US, I'm from the Bahamas so my standards for Conch Fritters are above average. Overall great place and I will order from here again and I think they will do great!!

Two huge aluminum trays of chicken and vegetable fried rice were picked up from The Hibiscus and transported to a private pumpkin carving pool party in my subdivision for ten hungry guests. The chicken was tender with a lightly seasoned skin and packed a welcoming flavor. I dabbed the chicken with a red pepper sauce which unexpectedly sent shocking heat through my veins and quickly switched to a mild soy sauce for my second plate. As I scrolled through the extensive online menu, there were a few items that sounded appealing including the Jerk Wings, Lamb Chow Mein and Ox Tail. Prices hover around $17.50 per entree and The Hibiscus specializes in West Indian Chinese & Caribbean cuisine. All of the meats are certified Halal and offer local delivery and catering.

Going in, the interior was very clean and clearly gave off carribean vibes. The tables inside were jumping with other patrons, but we were seated rather quickly. For dinner, we ordered 1x griot dinner complete (meaning the platter; rice & peas, pikliz, plaintains), 1x lassot complete (fried turkey), and 2x pate codes (think of a loaded hatian empanada; we ordered 1x fish and 1x chicken). Moving on with our review; everything was excellent! The griot had a nice crispy exterior but was tenderly seasoned inside. The lassot was surprisingly moist and crispy too. To include, the contrast of the onions marinated with the green seasoning on top. The rice & peas were cooked perfectly as they were light as air and plantains were crispy & salted nicely too. The pate codes were huge in size and flavor as well! My preference would be the original over the fish, but they both packed a tangy, savory, and spicy punch! Moreover, we had the pleasure of meeting and being served by the owner, who was very friendly and attentive. Overall, we were highly satisfied with our experience and would definitely recommend this spot for anybody who's looking for quality hatian cusuine. Final verdict 5/5!

I have been coming here since I moved to the area pre-pandemic back in 2019. At the time, I was…read moreeager to try the local restaurants and find a spot that could be one of my "regular" places. The first few times I visited Chelly's there was always a pretty decent sized line (a mark of a good restaurant usually). I'm no stranger to island food, but I also don't know many of the dishes all too well so I always have questions. The first few times I came I met Chelly, the owner of the establishment. She was warm and welcoming and took time to explain what everything was even knowing that there was a line to get her delicious food. I ordered the chicken curry as my first choice with rice and peas, cabbage, and a Jamaican beef patty. The food was OUTSTANDING! Flavorful, fresh, full of character and the portions are BIG so it's a great value. They had earned my business from day one and since then I had been coming back on and off when I was craving Jamaican food. Fast forward to today, I'm still a loyal customer and I want to say...this is the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant I have ever been to. Sam usually takes care of me and always greets me when I come in, she's personable, and loved getting to know the clientele to the point where she remembers conversations you shared and will ask you "hey how's _____ going?" I really love the welcoming atmosphere. The thing is, it's not just her.....her husband Matthew, is the same way! He's super nice, super welcoming, takes the time to explain the food, gives samples, even sometimes hooks me up with a little extra on the house. It doesn't stop there though....Viannie is also just as nice, friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. The whole establishment is bursting with personality and friendly attitudes. THIS is something I highly value and has seemingly become lost in this post-pandemic world. Not at Chelly's, they take pride in not only serving up delicious food full of flavor and soul, but also serving it up with a smile and attitude that warrants becoming a regular. If you haven't dined here, or aren't sure about dining here....drop what you're doing and give this place a try. Also worth mentioning, their lunch special deal for 6.99 is a TREMENDOUS value given the size of the portions and the freshness of the food. Small businesses such as Chelly's need your support. We are living in a capitalist world and big name businesses are running small businesses out. Don't let that happen, support your local establishments and family owned businesses. Chelly's has earned my business for life and they should earn yours too.
