Well, what can I say! Golden Krust has my heart. Just about everything I have had from there is amazing. Especially the chicken soups, Ackee & saltfish. Jamaican cuisine in general combines some of the most robust flavors and hits so many points in the taste buds. Which explains the craze at business lunch here. It is insane. I ordered rice and peas, calloolloo ( a type collard greens I believe ) sweet potato (white) , plantain , dumpling, and salt fish. Everything was delicious. The plantains flavor is more towards the salty side. The sweet potato is actually not orange looking more towards a white color. Everything on my plate tasted amazing. This restaurant is located in a strip mall adjacent from the Walmart and Sawgrass Mills mall. My friend recently turned me on to their daily specials. The food here is always very good and always has a nice sized portion. This place is my usual go-to when craving Jamaican food and don't feel like driving too far. While there are better options from the hole in the wall mom & pop restaurants in Broward, this isn't a bad option when craving a good brown stew chicken or some oxtails! I personally usually get the brown stew chicken special they have for $5.99 all day. The meal comes with a portion of the bone-in chicken pieces, your choice of white rice or rice and peas, warm vegetables (cabbage, carrot etc), two plantains, and a can of soda or water bottle. The brown stew chicken is really good for a chain restaurant. I have never been disappointed. The flavor, quality, and quantity is always consistent. I always get rice and peas and have them smother it with the delicious oxtail gravy. So good! The staff is always friendly and service is always prompt even when there is a long line to order. This is a no-frills restaurant with about 5-6 tables, and it seems like most people order for carry out. You really can't beat the price for what you get. Wow, I have been to this Golden Krust so many times that I have lost count. Some times I just pop in for a hot meat patty. They are best earlier in the day. By the evening they are a little dry. I usually do the curried goat which is the best I've ever had. I would love to say it is authentic Jamaican, but since I've never been to Jamaica I can't vouch for it. I can say its damn good! The soups and desserts are great too. And the oxtail is simply AWESOME!!! If you are in the area you have to stop in. I've been here several times and the food is good and the service is alright. Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, and an assortment of patties--all good (even the veggies!) Like all US-based Jamaican restaurants, the Jerk seasoning is missing certain elements that seem to be exclusive to the Island. Considering the lack of competition and availability of local Jamaican restaurants, I'm very happy there's a Golden Krust nearby and I wish the franchise success. That being said, the man in Jamaica selling Pan Chicken on the side of the road has better chicken. I don't know why or how. Golden Krust has room to improve. I would suggest they focus on bringing more of that authentic, sweet-wood smoke to their meats and allow the aroma of Jamaican-styled BBQ to dominate the shopping plaza. read more
