I have been coming here since I moved to the area pre-pandemic back in 2019. At the time, I was eager to try the local restaurants and find a spot that could be one of my "regular" places. The first few times I visited Chelly's there was always a pretty decent sized line (a mark of a good restaurant usually). I'm no stranger to island food, but I also don't know many of the dishes all too well so I always have questions. The first few times I came I met Chelly, the owner of the establishment. She was warm and welcoming and took time to explain what everything was even knowing that there was a line to get her delicious food. I ordered the chicken curry as my first choice with rice and peas, cabbage, and a Jamaican beef patty. The food was OUTSTANDING! Flavorful, fresh, full of character and the portions are BIG so it's a great value. They had earned my business from day one and since then I had been coming back on and off when I was craving Jamaican food. Fast forward to today, I'm still a loyal customer and I want to say...this is the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant I have ever been to. Sam usually takes care of me and always greets me when I come in, she's personable, and loved getting to know the clientele to the point where she remembers conversations you shared and will ask you "hey how's _____ going?" I really love the welcoming atmosphere. The thing is, it's not just her.....her husband Matthew, is the same way! He's super nice, super welcoming, takes the time to explain the food, gives samples, even sometimes hooks me up with a little extra on the house. It doesn't stop there though....Viannie is also just as nice, friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. The whole establishment is bursting with personality and friendly attitudes. THIS is something I highly value and has seemingly become lost in this post-pandemic world. Not at Chelly's, they take pride in not only serving up delicious food full of flavor and soul, but also serving it up with a smile and attitude that warrants becoming a regular. If you haven't dined here, or aren't sure about dining here....drop what you're doing and give this place a try. Also worth mentioning, their lunch special deal for 6.99 is a TREMENDOUS value given the size of the portions and the freshness of the food. Small businesses such as Chelly's need your support. We are living in a capitalist world and big name businesses are running small businesses out. Don't let that happen, support your local establishments and family owned businesses. Ordered: Rice & Peas w/ Fried Chicken & Oxtail Gravy (lunch special) Soursop Juice They offer the typical Jamaican options, oxtail, ackee & saltfish, fried chicken, soup etc. Small, yet personable Jamaican restaurant. I visited on Saturday and they were not super busy. At the entrance, it was clearly noted customers are required to wear their mask. The inside was clean, service was prompt and price is reasonable. The food was pretty good, well seasoned and they gave me oxtail gravy! a plus, lol. The chicken was a bit salty but didn't impact the overall experience. My family ordered take out from here on a Wednesday night. The girl who took my order over the phone was nice, but she couldn't tell me how spicy the spicy beef patty was. So I was a little worried. The food was ready when my husband got there; however they had sold out of the chicken patty even though the girl on the phone told me they had one left. The food is displayed buffet style in the restaurant. It seems to be a "we have it to sell until we run out" type of restaurant. Now for the food itself....it was all very good. We had never had Jamaican food before so I don't have anything to compare it to, but we enjoyed everything. The jerk chicken was spicy, but not overly so and full of good flavor. I personally liked the brown chicken stew the best. It was super moist and soft. My husband liked the oxtail the best, but I felt there wasn't enough actual meat compared to the amount of bone and fat. We got plain rice and the rice with beans; both were good. The spicy beef patty was also really good, though I felt it was more spicy than the jerk chicken. The only thing we really weren't a fan of was the spinach. We will definitely be back. read more

This place right here my friends is what we call FIRE. Someone call the Fire Department because this place is FIIIIRREEEEEEEE. I love the food here and it is that damn good. OMG I was so indecisive on what and where to eat on this Good Friday. I've passed by this restaurant numerous times and said "one day I'm gonna try!" Today was that day! I called to see if they had Escovitch fish and whomever the young man was that answered the phone was very very polite and attentive. He checked and said it was just getting finished. I had a weeklong workshop 5 minutes away from Chelly's, and I ate lunch here three days in a row. That's how good it was. I brought a friend and told more friends who all agreed how great the food was. I ate jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken, rice and peas, plantains and cabbage. Excellent service. I'm going to say it, this Jamaican spot is better than the renowned, Dutch Pot. The service was so much better and the wait is shorter. The employees were friendly. Even though it doesn't have a drive thru, it's just a great place for authentic, fresh, and delicious Jamaican food. They have the best meat patties in town (yes, just as good or even better than Dutch Pot). Honestly, I really think this is a hidden gem because it's not as popular and bumping as the competition. They have a decent size parking lot (next door to Bru's Room). They are open until 10:30 pm Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. The portions were so large; the small ($10.25) is enough for two meals. I had the small oxtail with rice and peas; it comes with steamed vegetables and two pieces of freshly fried plantains. The veggies were good with mainly cabbage in it; the plantains were to die for and so soft and warm; it melted in your mouth. The flavor of the oxtails was perfect, the meat fell off the bones. I like my rice drenched with the oxtail sauce. The large is $12.99. I also ordered a spicy beef patty ($2) which was so fresh and hot. The meat inside was so flavorful and had a hint of spicy: it was nicely minced and the pastry was nice and flakey. I've always opted to go to the competitors but now this will be my new go-to spot when the cravings occur. They have plenty of tables and the restaurant was very clean. Great authentic Jamaican food!! This little hidden gem is a great place for lunch. Lots of people during lunch time. They have traditional entrees like jerky chicken, oxtail, goat, lots of sides and much more. I opted for the oxtail lunch platter. It comes with mixed bean rice, steamed vegetables, and plantains. The oxtail was so tender. Completely fall of the bone!! It was a good combination of soft fatty sides with lean meat. The steamed veggies it came with was cooked well and complimented the robust flavor of the oxtail. The plantains are delicious!! Not super sweet and mushy but a nice firmness with some smoky flavors. I happened upon this place because my husband wanted to go to a local sports bar and watch the football games, but I wasn't interested in sports bar food at the time. Fortunately for me, Chelly's is located 1 or 2 doors down from a popular sports bar, so I checked out the reviews and decided to give this place a try; I wasn't disappointed. These reviews really had my hopes up only to be later disappointed. First, I liked that they had the all day chicken lunch deal like Golden Krust in Tamarac . It was $4.99 for curry chicken, fried chicken, jerk chicken and stew chicken. However, unlike Golden Krust, they do not provide a drink with the lunch deals. Second, the customer service was great. However, I am giving them a 2 because the cabbage smelled spoiled. When he brought it from the back, I thought I smelled something but I ignored it thinking it was just in my head. But once I got home and opened my plate, I could smell it. I couldn't finish my food after that. This place reminds me of the Dutch Pot because they both have spoiled cabbage. That totally ruined it for me because I know they smelled that while they brought it out from the back or while they were adding it on the 4 plates I ordered. It was gross.
