I love their pastries and drive about 25 minutes to get there but the last few times I've gone (around 11am), I see a bare counter with most things are sold out. This has never happened when I've gone couple months back, even later in the day. It's disappointing because I'm not interested in anything else on their menu and had to return home empty handed few times... they don't close until 2pm so I do wish they make enough to last till closer to their closing time.

I hosted a holiday brunch at my house today and decided to serve an avocado toast bar using Uncle Matt's sourdough and multigrain breads. They were both an absolute hit. With the leftovers we ended up using the bread for "breakfast for dinner" egg sandwiches. The loaves of bread are fresh and mighty. For an additional dollar the staff will pre slice the bread. Coffee was also excellent. We have tried their croissants on other occasions and were enamored by their flavor and flakiness. We love supporting this local business!

Everyone needs Uncle Matt's bakery! Quality, freshly baked goods. No matter what I get, I have to add a biscuit every time I'm here. The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is... its a little dirty/dusty/sticky feeling inside. I hope the kitchen is much cleaner than the customer area...but if it wasn't I can't say that'll stop me from frequenting this place haha. Also, the staff overall are friendly.

Uncle Matt's is a quaint bakery in Sandy Hook with ample outside seating perfect during warmer weather! The bakery itself has very cute and rustic vibes. Everything from here is very high quality. Their pastries, breads, and sandwiches are all outstanding! Today I tried their ham, egg, & cheese breakfast sandwich on their soft, delicious potato bread! One menu standout is hands down the fried eggplant sandwich. You must try that if you're looking for an excellent lunch sandwich. It's SO good... and so are the fries you get with it!

I've gone back and tied other items such as muffins and loaves. But today I tried the chocolate granola bar. It was so good. Cold, sweet, nutty, chocolate and crispy texture. Not too hard on teeth but simply yummy. Would go back for that. No pic since it was eaten by the time I got home. Try a granola bar if you want to se what a homemade one tastes like.

Love the bread here! First time getting a sandwich and it was pretty good! I went on a Friday afternoon and there was barely any people there but I waited over 15min for the sandwich. There was also no acknowledgment that it was taking a long time from the staff. The section to wait is also where people eat so it gets crowded and feels awkward to stand there. But after the wait, I took my sandwich outside and ate. They have a lot of tables and seating and it's more comfortable and spacious. Definitely a cute place to eat when it's nice out.

I ordered an Italian combo sandwich. They asked me if I wanted fries. I said yes these are regular fries in this photograph. They have zero salt on them and they are absolutely greasy and disgusting. I'm scared to eat the sandwich or the muffin I ordered.

I just left Uncle Matt's with a bad taste in my mouth. Other than the food being overly priced and very small portions, it was so uncomfortably hot that I was sweating and opted to leave instead of finishing our breakfast. I was really bummed out because I had been in a few times to take some pastries to go which never did disappoint, however the portion was pathetic and unjustifiable to pay $40 for dry eggs and less than caring customer service. The place is adorable and cozy, just much too cozy on an extremely hot day. Too bad the rest doesn't match up. It's a sad shame.

I had a friend gift me assorted breads and pastries from Matt's and I have to say I really liked the selection. The sourdough, croissants and apple pastries I received, all delicious and professionally baked. I'll have to visit the bakery/cafe in person the next time I'm in CT. Looking forward to trying their other items and coffee. read more

The pastrami sandwich was out of this world good, and was only made better with their fresh baked rye. The baked goods are great, and the staff is relaxed and friendly. I try to stop in anytime I'm passing by. read more

Love this place. Great outdoor sitting. We ordered a plain croissant (was hoping to order other varieties but they were sold out), morning glory muffin, and avocado toast, and coffee. Delicious!! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town. Also the prices are very reasonable. read more

What a great new addition to our Newtown community! I had an avocado toast on sour dough bread with smoked salmon, capers, tomatoes and cucumbers and it was delicious! They have a nice selection of freshly baked breads, pastries, and salads with eating options both inside and outside. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I got an everything bagel there today for the first time. Excellent bagels I got cream cheese, lox, red onion very good. My only suggestion is instead of chopping up the red onion to put slices of red onion on the bagel. I will definitely get it again, and I got my order in a timely fashion. read more

DELICIOUS! We regularly visit this bakery and have never been disappointed! The raspberry croissants are my favorite. The breakfast sandwiches are excellent, so fresh and full of flavor. I always get a bakery box full of variety and have loved everything. I wish this bakery was closer to where I live but it's so delicious I am willing to make the drive!! Just one more thing to love about living in Newtown is this wonderful place. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. We look forward to our weekend breakfast stops before sports. I'm partial to the raspberry croissants, my boys love the cookies and the plain croissants and my husband insists on loaves of the sourdough for our weekend meals. The breakfast sandwiches are made to order and delicious. Definitely a family favorite. read more

We visited this great bakery this morning for the first time. The set-up is neat and clean and there were several people hard at work within an hour of opening. We grabbed a loaf of bread and an assorted box of goodies and plan to return next weekend for breakfast. It was nice to see such a busy local spot. Black olive sour dough and a baguette. Bread was good but I was shocked at the price. 16.48! I called back just to make sure this was correct and was told the sourdough was $10.10 including tax - "Tax on bread which is a grocery?" I don't make up the prices the person told me. I like to support small and local business but not at this price. read more

Uncle mats has the best baked goods in the USA. There is nothing better than the freshest baked goods by a local store owner. They have the nicest employees with a fantastic variety of treats and breakfast and lunch options. I really really highly recommend this place if you want a local and delicious baked goods from kind employees. read more

Ok they are an awesome addition and generally everything is good. The sourdough bread was amazing, the rye bread was good but I like rye bread when it is crusty - this one had a soft crust almost like store bought bread - it had a great taste however. The everything bagel is good - different than a typical bagel - almost like a cross between a roll and a bagel - but it tasted great - problem is it was like $3 for a bagel with nothing on it - that's 3 times more expensive than bagel king or bagel delight which both have great bagels. The corn jelly muffin and poppy muffins were incredible. The cherry pistachio scone was good. Look forward to trying more stuff. In sum, you can tell they care and everything was more or less good or great. The prices were high which is fine for a small place where everything is made from scratch but $3.00 for a plain bagel is insane! read more

Suggested selling selling the 85/15 or 93/7 burger that wad available in place of the 80/20 but no one was authorized to make that simple logical decision. very disappointing that the management on site is not authorized to make the same decisions that fay shift management is authorized to make. Operation is focused on the dayshift management team, and customer they service and has nothing in place for management after dayshift goes home to take care of customers that manage their lives to non core hours. New store is very confusing. Vegetables are stacked so you have to pull from the top. Lo d the store but labor issues preventing customers from being able to purchase advertised items is a constant issue.
