We were excited to try this after trying to eat there during Cinco De Mayo but it was too pack. So our second time of coming and it was a disappointment. It was only a party of 2. They sat us very quickly. But we waited and waited and no one helped us with a drink order. So we left. Waiters and waitresses would walk by look at our table and not have the courtesy to ask if we have been helped. Why should we ask for assistance? We came to a spend money and enjoy the food, but their poor customer service made us walk out after sitting their for about 20 minutes. So idk if their food was good but I know the service needs help. read more

5+ 's My mother and I share a birthday & every year we do something special. This year we made reservations & drove 2 hours to try the hype of Uncle Julio's. Walking in immediately we were greeted with smiling hostesses. We actually arrived early for our reservation & to my surprise there was no wait on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We were seated immediately. I ordered steak fajitas & she ordered a chicken burrito bowl. A month later my mom tells me that she craved the flavors of the burrito bowl. My fajitas were also like something I've never had before. The steak for the fajitas was better than steak I've ordered at some steak houses. Our waitress was understanding , polite, and speedy for all of her tables. She was knowledgeable about the menu & made sure we were well taken care of. After lunch it was time for the much anticipated chocolate piñata! If you're just hungry for some good Mexican food, have a hot date, or celebrating a birthday this is your spot! Thank you Uncle Julio's for making our birthday lunch special! read more

Uncle Julio's - The famous Chocolate Piñata with fresh fruit! It's a must experience! - Tex-Mex Near Me - Oklahoma, Oklahoma

A nice Tex-mex restaurant as described in their bio. Not your hole in the wall authentic Mexican restaurant. The food was yummy, but not exceptional. The stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp were delicious. My margarita was good but a little too sweet. Their patio is beautiful but might be hard to sit outside in the hot OKC weather however their indoor area looks nice. Their dessert offerings are short. I often times expect Tex-mex/Mexican places to be somewhat relaxed and affordable and at uncle Julio's you can expect leaving the door paying more than you intend for a casual Mexican experience. read more

Strike 2, I'm out. The food is decent but the service is not. The bar is a cool place to hang out but the drinks weren't very good. The second time, we never even got sat. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant but a huge table in front of us and nobody even acknowledged us. Waited 10 minutes, then left. read more

If 3 1/2 stars were an option, that would be my vote. I would round up for the great atmosphere and and plentiful portions. However, I round down here for the quality of service which was a mediocre at best. They're complementary fire roasted salsa is not my favorite, but I thoroughly enjoyed the guacamole and queso combo. They're beverage menu was a bit excessive, so I went with the servers suggestion of a swirl -- and loved it (sweet/acidic/large). I chose the fish tacos as a main entrée, with black beans and veggies. The fish was a bit salty, but I enjoyed the texture along with the fresh cabbage slaw. (I also requested a side of their habanero pineapple sauce, which gave a nice kick.) I also liked the hardiness of the black beans and the julienne veggie side servings. I was able to take half my meal home, and it reheat well the following day. In sum, the location and menu options make this a fun and/or intimate destination. It's not the best food in its category in the city, but you won't leave hungry! Don't be in a hurry to get out of there, and try to get a patio seat on a nice day. read more

I ordered 2 enchiladas last night. One beef, one chicken. Halfway though the beef, it switched to chicken. They most likely skimped me on beef because it costs more than chicken. Half the enchilada had beef (which they barely put any in) and then the other half was all chicken. The other enchilada was chicken through the whole Thing. That's really suspicious and I won't be returning. I can't post a picture because I obviously had eaten the beef half and stopped when it got to chicken. read more

Dear Mr. Julio, Hi, My name is Connor and I would like to tell you a few things about your restaurant that I noticed on my first (of thousands) visit there. The fact that EVERYTHING is made from scratch is not just noticeable, but impossible to miss. The care that goes into each dish allows for humble patrons, like me, to eat more, and more, and more, and more, and more, because it is so gosh darn good! Don't believe me? Let me break down everything I have had from there. And before you start judging me, some family I went with had some leftovers that I took home so I did not order alllll of this food on one go round. Chips and Salsa The salsa is warm, which I did not think makes sense as salsa actually means "cold goodness" in Connish (Self made up language, let's move on) but the warm actually makes me think that Connish just simply did not understand the range that salsa has. So as such Uncle Julio, you have made me change the meaning of salsa in Connish to "Temperature Irrelevant Goodness." Also this has kind of a "Fire Roasted" Vibe, so there's some marketing material for you Julio. Chicken Fajitas I love chicken. I love it grilled. I love it Fried. I love it smoked. It does not matter much, aside from being raw, I am pretty much good to go. The Fajitas you are pulling off here Mr. Julio *Kisses sky* what a masterstroke of wow. I had some, then had more. The slices of chicken are huge. I actually filled up a small cup from the juice inside of one slice of chicken! How crazy and fake does that sound? Okay just believe that they are juicy and perfectly cooked okay? Beef Fajitas So remember what I literally JUST said about the chicken? Good. These are better. You can flat tell that they are better. I actually think a statistician should come in and make a spreadsheet showing exactly how much better. My final estimate is it at roughly 39.013% better...That is really all that needs be said about the situation. Honey Chipotle Salmon This was my actual dish that I ordered. I looked around at everyone else's food and thought "Crap I messed up because all that looks too good...except that shrimp(I'm allergic to shellfish.)" Then I tasted my fish. Woah. This is different. This is, my favorite aquatic meat I have ever eaten. I mean it. One taste of the sweet chipotle sauce on top of that perfectly cooked salmon? Forget about it. I can't see myself getting anything else, except for all the other menu items that I feel required to try because I finally can trust again. Service This is the easiest section to talk about. Our waitress(Erika) actually made everyone enjoy their meal 76% more than we would have with a normal and merely "good" server. She was running all over getting a refill here, corn tortillas there. I swear at one point she duplicated herself and was getting two things done at once. I mean I'm not saying I'm jealous of the self duplication, but I am impressed either way. Real moral of this story is, great job Erika, thank you for bringing a level of awesome that no mere mortal can bring...Mr. Julio give her a raise. My Wife says the nice lady who made table side Guacamole is her secret best friend....I do not know if she is lying. read more

This our favorite Mexican restaurant in OKC. You will not find fresher tasting food. The table side guacamole is a must have, hands down the best I've had. We took the kids and grandkids for celebration lunch. We ordered the chocolate piñata and they were kind enough to personalize the dish just for our table. The food is wonderful. Try something new, you will be rewarded. While you're there take a walk around the area, lots to see. read more

Pulled this up to come eat because we couldn't decide anywhere else. Little bit confusing at first on how to get here due to google maps. You know when it shows arrived and you are staring at a waterfall or something wild in front of you but no restaurant? Ha. Well we figured it out. No wait, as far as a line upon entering for us. Our table was a bit crowded but we adjusted fine. Waitress was great. Guacamole, chips and salsa were so good. Margaritas fell short, food was awesome. Try the filet mignon fajitas! Stuffed, bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp was delicious as well. Had to get some fresh fruit because the grapes and pineapple weren't all that good for all 3 kids meals. I wish I would have known that the ice cream served for dessert is about 4 huge scoops. Each bowl (we got 3, one for each kiddo) was $4.00 and we could have easily shared one bowl among the 5 of us. read more

Finally tried this place out since it's always so busy! Reserved online and when We got there, there were so many empty tables.. I was expecting the place to be super packed but it wasn't that busy at all. Saw so many empty tables.. host sat us outside by the door.. which I was hoping we'd be sat by the pond for the view but didn't want to be difficult and move tables.. The server was very informative and nice but tad bit slow on refills. Got chips and salsa which i love how thin and soft their chips were. I guess they don't salt their chips? Or not enough salt which was weird to me. Ordered the guacamole and white queso which had a bit spice in it which was good for me but not for my nieces.. ordered the combination enchilada with beef and chicken. The rice was pretty flavorful and bean was in the juice/water. It was okay. My boyfriend got the carne asada taco which I like better than my dish. Very flavorful and his side beans had meat in it. I got so full off the chips though so didn't eat all of my food. Might try again when I'm craving Mexican food. read more

The food was sub par, which I don't understand because the last time I was there (probably over a year ago), it was great. Also, the service was simply awful. We had reservations for 8 (celebrating a 40th birthday) so it's not like they didn't know we were coming. Our waiter was also waiting on another large party and several other tables. They should have divided up the tables differently. We had to wait and wait for each and every thing we needed and had to ask for it repeatedly...even refills on water. Your prices have gone up and your quality has gone way down. I felt embarrassed for suggesting your restaurant to my family. Another issue is the payment process; no itemized receipt, just payment on a pin pad. The waiter holds it while you get to look at at and then he stands there and waits while you figure out payment, tip, etc. Extremely awkward. The only good thing was the chocolate pinata. read more

The place is in a great spot, and the view is awesome if you sit outside. However; our food took about 45 min to come out, it was cold, and half of our food was missing. The food was bland, no flavor to what we all ordered. This place has great potential if you get a better recipe to your food. The cost is too high for the value of the food. I spent time reviewing their reviews and they all say the same thing, the food was bland and the quality is poor. Why haven't there been changes? It also makes me wonder if the 5 stars they have are from their own employees. read more

I eat Mexican food ALOT, maybe a problem, but can't stop!! It is a bit of a drive for us so we only go occasionally but I get so excited when I know it is on the horizon!! Best drinks, best food, and service is top notch. The ambiance is out of this world. read more

Had heard good things about this place and expected your typical Tex mex. Saw the menu and the range of choices was minimal and not at all worth the cost. Nope. I did not like coming here. The food is horrible, service is even worse. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because the outside seating is amazing. Otherwise I recommend going elsewhere. read more

First time here for my spouse and I. It's located in north Edmond loff Memorial near Top Golf. Has plenty of parking and small walk to the entrance. This is a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating inside, open seating in the bar area and plenty of outdoor seating with covered patio. Menu is simple, with good choices, priced fairly for the amount of food you receive. Me and wife shared Matador Carne Platter which comes two cheese enchiladas with homemade salsa carne sauce; Excellent, one beef enchilada, we used New Mexico red sauce, wife and I loved it and she is from NM, closest NM sauce so far; also comes with 2 soft tacos, we had 2 crispy with beef, beef was seasoned well and flavorful, we enjoyed them, rice was tender and seasoned well as well, pinto beans was okay. We really enjoyed the homemade sauces and food and would recommend. read more

Great food and service. I would skip the table-side guac and just get the version made in the kitchen. Spend the extra on another margarita. The $5 happy hour one was . Wife and I went for drinks at the bar on a Saturday afternoon. We were the only ones at the bar when we first arrived. The bartender seemed preoccupied with dishes when we sat down and we were not even greeted. The bartender left and about three minutes later returned and greeted us. The service continued to be sub par, and we felt like we were a burden on the bartender. Not once did he ask to refill salsa. Not once did he ask if we needed more than the one drink we finished. The question was, "Can I get you guys anything else?" Wife and I joked that maybe the bartender was high. Having said all this, the drinks, chips, salsa, and guacamole were good, but we will not return to the bar. It is sad because the bar and restaurant have so much potential. read more

UPDATE: we stopped in tonight, but there was a wait. We sat at the bar and got pretty bad service. The server had too many people to wait on, and the bartender was slow. The drinks were good, but my water glass literally had a hole in it. It got all over me, and the table and yet all the bartender did was give me a handful of cocktail napkins. And he nor the server never replaced the water. We left after our cocktails. My friend and I visited an Uncle Julio's in Dallas last year before Dallas Pride, and had a great time. So when the new one opened in OKC, we were really excited. And my mom's 65th birthday dinner seemed like the perfect opportunity. And it was a great decision. It was a great atmosphere, and a lot of fun for a large group. In fact there were several other birthday parties and a good time was had by all. The food was great, the table side guacamole was perfect. The cowboy queso was some of the best I have had. The chicken and steak fajitas were perfect with a butter sauce that was phenomenal. Even the chicken tenders that my niece ordered were really good. The margaritas were really good, but I don't suggest the frozen sangria, it was a bit bitter. The star of the show was the chocolate lovers piñata, it was tremendous fun, and too much dessert for 7 of us, including a 7 year old that can eat silly amounts of chocolate when allowed. Overall, it was a great experience. I would suggest making reservations if you are a party of more than two, but there seems to be plenty of room at the bar. Give them a try, you won't regret it read more

It's confusing to me why people are so mad at this place. Yes, it's slightly overpriced. The food and drinks are very average and underwhelming. The service is ok, but not great. We went on a Friday night so it was pretty busy, but no one at the table got a refill and we all had to manage on just one glass for the whole meal, with cups empty. Ok so maybe I get why people don't like it. Maybe. However, with all the bad, the location is perfect and sitting on the patio is a really chic experience. The chocolate lovers piñata was super cool and it's worth trying this restaurant just for that, especially if you have kiddos. Our whole squad was enchanted by the piñata. I'm not sure if it's worth $35, but hey. It's less of a place of magical food and more of a magical experience. read more

So I had heard mixed reviews on Uncle Julio's, but was still excited to try it after visiting the original location in the Texas Metroplex. I have to say they hands down did not disappoint! Now, there was a wait, so I highly suggest making a reservation! But, there were just two of us so we found a spot at the bar no problem. (Service industry insider here: the best service is always at the bar. Bar tenders are typically the most experienced staff in restaurants.) The margs are fantastic! Fresh ingredients and great quality, I highly suggest ordering one. We got the "Queso Blanco" which the bar tender suggested to start with and it was great! Then we ordered the Guadalajara Fajitas and I was blown away! This fajita platter came with well seasoned chicken, perfect cooked steak, and these amazing bacon wrapped shrimp that were stuffed with cheese and jalapeños. It was the perfect amount for two and was very fairly priced for the amount of food. All in all, this is now my go to Mexican restaurant in OKC! Uncle Julio's - Tex-Mex Near Me - Oklahoma, Oklahoma

I am not a chain restaurant gal. I think if you sequenced my DNA you'd find an aversion to the high-ceilinged, big-menued, stale hospitality of a nationwide chain. And I think the real reason chains are so bad in OKC is that our local restaurant scene is so thriving (or at least was until April 1 or whenever the world came crashing down), the "talent" mostly goes to those cool local indie hotspots. Thus, the farm team servers at chains seem on a mission to prove to you they'd rather be anywhere else. Of course, this is old me talking. New me considers all these people to be frontline workers, risking their lives to help us, and I won't be caught dead leaving less than 25% and being the friendliest customer of the day, no matter how long and convoluted the menu. So, lesson learned, smug old Julie please sit down. But my parents hadn't been anywhere since mid-March, and they were literally going to lose it if I didn't take them on a field trip. I'd been delivering their groceries, and getting them set up on things like Butcher Box and Hello Fresh so they'd never need to leave. But we were on the fast track to a padded room if I didn't get them a break. So I took them Costco, since Costco is perfect. And they were good, so I said we could go to Uncle Julio's. Here's where the five starts part starts. When you've done everything in your power to protect your people for months, you notice the little things. 1) Tents set up outside to provide extra shade while you wait 2) All check-ins done at an outside kiosk 3) They text you when your table is ready -- none of this passing around a beeper anymore (how will we explain that device to our children, and when did those things ever get cleaned, and did you wash your hands always before digging into your chips and salsa? Jesus) 4) They were seating people AT LEAST 6 feet apart on their big patio. It was shady and cool enough, even though it was a super hot day. 5) Our server was definitely struggling, but I felt for him. He was struggling in the heat, in his mask, in all black, and was just kind of a mess. But, as Moira would say, he was so good at trying. 6) The food was great, albeit probably being graded on the curve of having only eaten my own cooking for 90 days and 90 nights. We had a nice big guacamole and I ate that with chips and a big ass margarita that somehow also had an extra shot of tequila floating around in there. I was simultaneously heartbroken that it is now inappropriate and unsafe for me to finish my mom's margarita (she never drinks it all) AND glad my dad was there to DD since I'm not trying to get a DUI at 40 on a Monday afternoon during a pandemic. I had just really missed margaritas. My mom loved her taco salad (massive) and my dad dug into his enchiladas pretty much like you'd expect someone to who is used to eating out three meals a week, and has been stuck at home for three months. 7) Every employee I saw was masked up, working hard, taking care of customers and being lovely about what has to be a pretty tough way to work. So I think this where chains have it going on. They have entire teams of people to help them figure some of this shit out on the fly. They have lawyers and health and safety experts and whatever on tap, ready to write up the new procedures and policies. AND they probably get a lot more PPP than everyone else (did not fact check this, don't sue me), and/or they have deeper pockets to help them pivot in a crazy time. So, in summation, I won't be changing my ways to become part of some chain gang. May I never darken the doorway of an Olive Garden so long as I should live. But, when taking elderly-ish parents to a meal during this dumpster fire, I think I may be more likely than ever to give a chain a chance. read more
