Best chicken fajitas in DFW!!! The chicken breast was amazing also!! Love this place.

The waiting times for this place is horrible! Took 20 minutes for the waiter to take our order, I ended up not ordering anything.

How does one screw up chicken fajitas and how can service be any worse? I had dinner at Uncle Julio's in Grapevine. The hostess was very nice and pleasant. However since I was seated behind their station, all I could hear during the dinner was Spanish speaking. Don't they ever work? I received chips and dip almost instantly. The waiter was prompt in taking my order. I asked for extra onions-which in the dinner were almost raw. All the cook did was briefly for 30 seconds sautéed them. The waiter brought my ice tea-barely any ice in there and during the meal never showed his face to me- no napkin for the glass. It dripped water every time I picked it up. He never came back to see if I wanted anything or to refill the tea-is this restaurant in financial trouble? And they weren't even busy. The noise from the kitchen was deafening. Someone dropped a container of flatware and everyone one in that area had to rush over to see what happened. I hope no one was injured. Don't the others have to work? People dropping kitchen items is common. The guac and chicken were too salty. The onions and green pepper dripped in oil. I had oil pooled in my plate and and all around my table top. There was only 3 tortillas which I believe is par. But if the waiter had returned I could have asked for one more. And I believe tortillas are hand made. They could have had a less taste of raw flour. Cook them another 30 seconds. And they were too thin. Taco Cabana has true home made tortillas. Beans are a cheap commodity. How did they find such a small bowl to serve them in? Again are they financially in trouble? Couldn't determine if they were good-not enough to taste. Hope the Chef and General Manager see this review. And if they need help running their operation I willingly volunteer-I too have a management and chef training and experience. People stick to the cheese nachos- so far they haven't screwed that up. Signed a disgruntled customer. In the future if I ever go back I will stick to the cheese nachos. What a waste of money did I spend last night. And I tipped the waiter-not that he deserved it. read more

Always exceptional! Service is exactly as it should be. I don't think you can order a meal that won't exceed your expectations. We usually order drinks, an appetizer, and share a meal. The meal we enjoy most is the fajitas. If you want a variety of meat options, go for the Guadalajara. We always ditch the chicken and order steak with the shrimp. Tonight we added three extra bacon wrapped shrimps for a total of six. Totally worth it! Guadalajara Mesquite grilled jumbo bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese and fresh jalapeño with mesquite grilled chicken and steak fajitas. Served with Mexican butter, fresh guacamole, sour cream, cheese, sautéed peppers and onions, and our homemade flour tortillas. The restaurant is really large and can get a little noisy. If it's cold outside, try to be seated near the fireplace. They also have a large patio which can be really a great choice on cool evenings. This restaurant has been a favorite of ours for years. Food poor, service awful. ambience~~ what ambiance? We sat on the patio as we always do and we picked the table we wanted and hostess sat us. There were old soft tortillas on floor around our table and a plastic drink glass with straw still in it. It was obvious Hostess saw this mess but went back inside without picking up the surrounding trash!! Then our waiter, David showed up and he dismissed the trash also. Brought us our ice teas and water. Melted down ice for our glass of ice tea before we even got our tea. Restaurant was not busy yet took 30 minutes to get our food. An appetizer and a Tex mex dinner. The real star of this experience was the service. Dante our server consistently checked on us, so did everyone else working. We were seated quickly during lunch on a Friday. The food was okay. The mango passion fruit lemonade was too tart. There are no steak fajitas on the lunch menu so we ordered the dinner for two option. The dinner "steak fajitas for two" portions were weird. We had to share toppings which were really portioned for one person. We were only given 3 tortillas, but when we asked received more quickly. The meat was excellent, but we only had enough for 2-3 fajitas a person. I might return, but I'd order different items next time. read more

Uncle Julio's was one of my favorite places in the past, however I haven't been there for more than five years. I must say they did not disappoint! Although I felt the combination fajitas might be overpriced, the quality and quantity were certainly in line with what they charged! I can't imagine the portion which is supposed to be for just one person, just being for one person! Thankfully we shared it, and there was more than enough. They have the most unique salsa, very fresh and tasty, but not quite as much of a bite as I would like. However, it is excellent! The chips are some of the thinnest I've had anywhere, and are also fresh and excellent! We got the Sophia for dessert, it was excellent, and certainly more than enough for two! It has always been what I consider high-end Mexican, and worth the price! Definitely will be coming back! read more

I came here for a business lunch last week, and really enjoyed the meal. The hostess and servers were excellent, attentive and friendly. We both ordered fajitas in our proteins were cooked perfectly. The fajitas came with guacamole, sour cream tortillas, and some fixings. They have really nice booths and tables here and a lot of natural light. We have been to a couple locations and it is a chain that we actually enjoy frequenting. The space is large and we did not have to wait to be seated. The service was quick and friendly, the servers were attentive. We ordered the Fajitas for 2 (steak and chicken), beef queso, and the margarita/ sangria swirl. Everything was served hot and every item was delicious. If you are visiting for a special occasion, I highly recommend trying the Chocolate Piñata (especially if you have kids dining!). read more

We called ahead to ask how late they were open first and the lady didn't offer any information about the reservation policy or short staff. We walked in and was told it is reservations only. Booked a reservation and got a confirmation email and then a minute after I received a cancellation email for the reservation. They called to let me know but when I answered the phone no one spoke. I called right back and asked about the cancellation and was told that they cancelled it because they are short staffed. I had to explicitly ask the lady if they were no longer taking reservations for her to tell me that they will no longer accept guests for the evening. Your improvements should start with retraining your hostess to give necessary information to your potential and inquiring guests. The information about reservations and no longer accepting guests for the evening should have been given on the original call asking about the closing time. Considering this review is based around the fact I wasn't even able to give your restaurant a chance to be reviewed is crazy work. I understand being a reservation only restaurant especially considering the short staff situation. The problem is your lack of consideration for someone who just wanted to eat at your restaurant. Been here a few times when I visit Dallas , the food is always good, service is ok too. Their fajitas are always good, queso appetizer is always a hot. But this time it didn't start off on the right foot for me. More than 2/3 of the place are open with over 15 tables, we were led to the table right I. Front of the bathroom!!!!!!!! I was sad when the Uncle Julio's closed in Austin, TX and was excited to find one in Grapevine, TX when I was in town for a business trip. I was seated quickly. However the service was VERY slow, I had to wait a long amount of time for drink and chip refills which was a bit frustrating. But the food knocked it out of the park, my fajitas had beef, chicken and bacon wrapped shrimp and was cooked to perfection. The chips and salsa is always fresh and on point. The flavored margaritas are where it is at. I went with the grapefruit flavor this time and it was so fresh and a perfect balance of sweet and tart with a slice of grapefruit. I was jealous that I couldn't order the piñata dessert since I was dining solo but was very happy with all my other food. Just wish the service had not been so slow and my server had been a bit more attentive (reason I removed a ), might have sold me another margarita. Keep going...... Not a good happy hour /dinner at Uncle Julio's again and again. Food was good assuming they give you the right order. The bar is not the place to sit to order drinks as they can't count and added on multiple drinks to our tab. Brought out incorrect food then to end the night to see we just ordered quesadillas that's it.. had to ask for chips and wait 15 min at the bar to get attention . At the end of the night-tab was also incorrect-- added 4 beers not ours, added the fajitas we didn't order and kept the quesadillas on the tab, then after correcting the tab the second time still left in the incorrect fajitas and 1 extra beer then removed an error to return for 3rd time to keep the fajitas still on the receipt... so when we asked for the bartender attention to focus on our issue he raised his voice to gain all the restaurant to listen. Bad service, bad math and bad attitude. Cooks --food was very good, assuming they were told the correct order... after years of going there we are finally done. We will not tolerate to be yelled at for an error not of our own. Shame on management who we asked for and did nothing but ask us "so if the receipt was correct and if we needed anything else. " ????? Worthless. Customer service starts from the top management down. You just lost 10 + patrons. Go to Baja just down the street - better margaritas and still good food to avoid this nightmare and verbal abuse from the staff. Go to Uncle Julio's at the Grapevine location at your own risk. And ... hope you have no plans for the night with the servers errors and favoritism to other patrons forgetting you're there. read more

We met our friend we've not seen in a while, took our time and savored the thin chips and warm salsa - enjoyed the time with our friend. You know those lunches that you catch up on EVERYTHING, talk about old times, and chat about how we all can meet up again? In between our chit chat, our amazing server kept our drinks full, and we ordered table side guacamole. Prepared with what SEEMED like 100 avocados (though I believe it was 3 or 4) -perfectly seasoned and perfectly mashed andprepared just the way that we wanted. No tomatoes no onions. Just with cilantro and extra jalapeños. We also ordered crunchy tacos, and soft tacos, and an order of fish tacos. This was lunch, of course and we want to eat light. (just kidding) the tacos are flavorful, and filling. Each of the orders comes with beans and rice and also we stuffed each taco with the guacamole along with the salsa. This was an absolutely delightful lunch. We did not feel rushed at all, and our server was fully attentive. We look forward to coming back and enjoying another lunch or dinner. This place is perfectly located in Las Colinas close to the airport, as well as near to nearby offices and hotels of Las Colinas. Sat at the bar for happy hour. Bartenders were overwhelmed in serving customers and making drinks for servers. 10 minutes to the end I finally got waited on and ordered double. As a longstanding customer I can attest that Uncle Julio's was outstanding and my favorite. Sadly that is no longer the case. The menu recipe changes and quality are no longer done to the same standards. The rice has changed and is hard or gummy. The marinades are either non existent or too salty. The fajita beef is basically jerky thin. The outrageously good Smokey salsa is different every time we go. It's just not the same and it's too bad. read more

Everything felt like it was poor quality, the meat felt cheap quality, cheese felt like bagged cheese you find in a baseball game. Service felt acceptable and good, Sunday night not busy at all. I got the quesadilla and the pulled chicken I always get tasted like eating a bbq smoked turkey. It was disgusting and hardly any cheese. I asked the bartender why the pulled chicken tastes so different & he said "I forgot to tell you they changed it." They really need to tell guests before ordering when there is a big change like that. Was disappointed I was not told and also that they would change to a chicken with such a nasty flavor. We came on the "busiest day since before Christmas" as one waitress shared. Even with that being the case we were able to observe parties being seated in a reasonable time (with plenty of bar seating for immediate seating if a person was in a hurry). While the staff were rushing about to serve customers quickly, none of them were rude nor inconsiderate of the customer. That says a lot for a company and their employees. I sat at the bar, which is my solo thing! I've given up drinking for a bit but still the place when solo! The service was great. The best part was when I asked for recommendations she was all over it. She named her 2 favorites and I bought one - chicken enchiladas with special cheese. It. was really good. Great flavor and fresh tasting! The beans were flavorful and creamy as of cooked with a Mexican sausage, maybe it was. The rice was well spiced and hints dry which i liked for the cheese sauce. I ordered a side of guacamole which was nicely done with a good garlic hit! Salsa was fresh but not spicy. The chips were tasty but thin so couldn't lift the guacamole.... only negative so far! OK....I ordered the churro.... and.... tasty! The chocolate dip was different. It was more fudge vs milk or Mexican chocolate . I liked the small churros! The servings are sooo generous! I had enchiladas and they were wonderful! The salsa is a chipotle-based sauce and is served cold. Everything was delicious. The house margaritas come in a serving for two, but I loved the Mescal Margarita's smokey flavors. When we were younger, every trip to DFW had to include Uncle Julio's. We loved the chips and salsa, with that roasted flavor! My favorite was the soft tacos with ground beef. I got them every time, as prices went up, up, up. Fast forward 30 years, and we haven't been to Uncle Julio's in forever. Thank goodness the salsa hasn't changed. Still wonderful! Glenda got her usual sour cream enchiladas, which were tasty. Me? Soft tacos of course! Well, their not as big as they used to be, but still so tasty.
