In town for business and tried Uncle Julios for an early dinner. We were seated in the bar area and then quickly greeted by our server. Love the vibe and decor. Very spacious and nice furniture. My co worker had a house margarita and I had the El Hefe. Shaker for El Hefe ends up giving you two full drinks. Chips and salsa were very fresh and tasty. Dinner was Ceviche and then Cheese and Onion Enchiladas. All good. Service was good throughout. My only note is all surfaces needed a good dust and scrub. I came here one night for dinner with my family and their red salsa is yummy. Their brown salsa was smokey. Their beans are sort of like black bean chili. We had quesadillas for an appetizer. A group of us went on margarita day on a Saturday night. We had 730 reservations but were not seated until 8. Our server came and told us how busy they were. Took our drink order and it seemed to take a while to get the drinks. After a while the server came back and took our order. It took somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour to get our order and they got my daughter's order completely wrong. The food was excellent loved the Smokey salsa sauce for the chips. I had chicken fajitas and they were awesome. The service was terrible, I'm not sure why, we were in a back room away from the main areas. Even when the server came into our area, she never checked on us, no water or drink refills. The server was not unfriendly they just didn't pay attention. We arrived at around 4:00 PM on a Saturday night. There were maybe 5 tables full which should have been our first clue. We didn't speak to a server for over 30 minutes after being seated, and only received service after one of our party got up to ask for service. Our waiter wasn't even informed that we were his table, and no one was checking on us so we could've easily been waiting all night. Our waiter was polite, but didn't check on us once of his own volition the entire meal. We got one refill and that was after multiple attempts of flagging him down, because he was also bussing tables. One of our drink orders was incorrect, and with zero check-ins, it was impossible to correct without getting up again and bothering someone else. Service was a snails pace, even for the very few people who were dining here on a Saturday night. It was one of those experiences where you feel like you need to ration your drink because you don't know when you'll get a refill. We waited for maybe an hour and a half before our food arrived. We saw more than one person from other tables get up to ask for service, one of which appeared to leave out of frustration. The fajitas were over $24 for an individual and was probably the worst fajita I've ever had, not worth $15. There are many other reviews that share these problems and they have not been resolved. It's a shame because the location is attractive and the ambiance would have been a cool experience if the food was even average tex-mex quality and average service. The quality of food is amazing. They have fresh made from scratch Flour Tortillas. And made in your table Guacamole. But the favorite part for the kids was the Piñata dessert. Usually I would give four or Five Stars, but not today! Stood at the host station for 10 minutes waiting to be seated. We ordered Chicken Fajitas for 2, the salsa and chips showed up and the chips were folded over and sub par, the salsa was black and was absolutely horrible. As for the fajitas, the chicken was warm and not sizzling, I believe the chicken was sitting in the back before served and was dry and hard with a horrible flavor, the vegetables were not cooked well and were wimpy. The tortillas were hard around the edges and not fresh as well. Very extremely disappointed and the waiter could care less or he would not have served this shit! read more

My first impression was the place was decorated very nice, I felt as though I had gone to Mexico. Our waitstaff was good, he spaced out time for us to talk and exchange christmas gifts before taking orders and etc. I had a margarita, which was delicious. We were initially served chips and dip. The chips were warm, salty and delicious and the salsa was very good, I had to think twice about ordering anything else. My entree was the carnitas fajitas for one. It arrived at my table sizzling and piping hot. The meat was very tender and mouth savoring. The rice and black bean were both delicious as well. The food was so delicious, I only ate one tortilla, I just ate it as a meal. There was a nice size portion, which I did have some food left. The Uncle Julio's in St Louis is a nice environment with plenty of space but it screams "chain restaurant". Overall it's a broad menu of the traditional Tex Mex offerings. Nothing out of the ordinary but it meets expectations from a flavor and presentation standpoint. Excellent chips and salsa. Pretty typical queso and fresh guacamole. Ordered their fajitas and they came out not sizzling in fact they were luke warm. Returned them to heat up. Rice and beans were not hot but didn't want to be that picky! At the risk of sounding too elitist about Mexican food, this place is really about being the go to place for West St. Louis County folks who are looking for an upscale Taco Bell menu with margaritas. Sorry, but the food is not very inventive, and it's solidly TEX/MEX with a midwest sensibility (ugh) and a West County wallet to go with it. I thought it was a bit over priced, and although not terrible it was not great either-and thats for TEX/MEX. On the good side was the service which was in our visit excellent, on the food side was the house guacamole which was very good (we passed on the table side version for $15). Tasted absolutely amazing!! My only negative mark is that it's $30 for fajitas. That's excessive. The cost could be a little more affordable personally. 4 stars for the margaritas and churros, 3 stars for the service...The waiters brought 3 of the wrong drinks to the wrong people as well as the wrong queso (but still delicious anyways). They were polite/nice about it but it just took awhile to sort it all out. From other reviews it sounds like service is a bit of a struggle here. Watermelon margarita that was incorrectly delivered to our table (and hence was complimentary--can't complain about that) was refreshingly yummy. Both the Queso Blanco and the Chile con queso appetizer dips were addictively good with the chips. I also tried the dozen churros with chocolate dip--they were crispy, sweet, and cinnamon-y! The neighboring table ordered the chocolate pinata with churros and fruit topped with a big cloud of whipped cream for a birthday celebration. It looked amaaaazing and so fun! read more

I didn't realize the up charge until I got my bill but I was charged $27.50 for my fajitas. And the kicker was that the steak was RAW! The fajita plate was extremely hot when served so I as able to personally cook my steak on the cast iron it was served on. I'd recommend sticking with shrimp. The steak cut also ate fatty. The salsa is smokey- not my preference, but per each their own. The margarita of the month was a blood orange margarita. It was delicious! Also once the other patron got her quesadilla- it was delightful. It was stuffed with good portion of sour cream and guacamole. I'd recommend ordering this over the fajitas. The queso was really good. Only issue was that we ran out of chips and took extended period of time to get more, by that time queso was cold. Also to note it wasn't crowded at all. It was a Sunday afternoon. Once we paid and were leaving I noticed the hostess was looking down on her phone. Did not acknowledge us or even look up from her device as we were leaving. Uncle Julio's is a chain, and I was so excited to see this restaurant open in St. Louis! This place probably has the best, upscale Mexican food in town. Some of my favorite items are the fajitas and the prepared to order guacamole. The fajitas come with everything you need - sour cream, guac, cheese, tomatoes, beans, rice, veggies, you name it. I've tried the shrimp, chicken, and beef for the fajitas, and all three are great! Flavorful, tender, and decently portioned. The prepared to order guacamole is so moreish. The general manager doesn't understand how DoorDash works.. may need some training. Terribly rude and incompetent. (Update: staff called me back today and called me by name.) To elaborate further: the DoorDash driver that went to pick up my order said it was not there(stolen). Tried to reason with them to get the order made so they could deliver it. The staff then kicked him out of the restaurant and were rude. The obvious answer to fix this situation just for them to remake it and send it with the driver. There was no cancellation on their end. They just let the DoorDash app keep sending drivers and wasting everyone's time. They need training. read more
