The Uncle Julio's over by the Stonebriar mall is one of my favorites from this chain. The interior is warm and festive, and the service is the best I have had from these restaurants. The food here is really good. Their chips and queso (there are two queso options and I liken them both) are so good I look forward to coming here to eat. And I appreciate them having vegetarian options. There's a cauliflower bowl that is very tasty and is one of the better tasting vegetarian meals I've had in a while. read more

Overall, decent Tex-Mex food. My friend and I ordered fajitas; steak and shrimp, there is complimentary chips and salsa, and we ordered some queso on the side. Now that's out of the way let me start from the beginning. In the late 1980s the original Uncle Julio was opened on Lemmon Ave in Dallas where it still operates. Operated by the founder with undying commitment to his offering, As a result, Uncle Julio skyrocketed to success becoming one of the Best Tex Mex go to in Dallas. Unfortunately enter, (que sçary music),Ownership Change! As is often the case with new operations,the boat starts rocking. In Uncle Julios case,drinks became weak,potions shrank,preparations altered,you get the picture. Then, quickly, expansion with new locations started popping up. Basically none of the new locations ever rose to the occasion and in fact continued setting new lows in its offerings. So why am I here today and more importantly,what did I find? In my infinite wisdom,I know things can come full circle so, second and third chances are part of my vernacular. Plus,I need another Tex Mex north so I don't have to drive south into heavy traffic to find my favorite places . Today's meal was a winner. The chili con carne and onion covered cheese enchiladas are authentic and satisfying. The taco salad is loaded with perfectly seasoned beef, cheddar,cojita, jalapeno cream, romaine. So we hadn't been in awhile due to some poor service in the past but decided to give them another chance. We were seated pretty quickly and the busboy brought some chips&salsa. We asked for the red salsa to which he said No Mas. When the waiter arrived we asked again about the red salsa but apparently it's off the menu. My wife got the chicken tacos. Sadly the pulled chicken has gotten even worse. There's no flavor to it, it is stringy, and has big chunks in it... So not really pulled chicken. My wife said it tasted like it had been cooked in dish water. I tried the tortilla soup. Rather than the light delicious broth they used to serve I got a lukewarm mushy mass. I couldn't find any tortillas, chicken, nor avocado, all of which the menu insisted was in there. A clump of gritty cilantro was tossed on top. The waiter came by to check on us and I wanted to send my soup back. He got the manager for us who explained they had a new kitchen manager who was testing out new recipes. They are trying to make everything "fresh" so that's why no red salsa-it was made with canned tomatoes. The soup was less "brothy" now - not sure how "water" is a problem but the new chef likes lumpy soup apparently. He could see my wife hated the dishwater tacos so he comped both our entrees. I dined here tonight after seeing they had a taco Tuesday special for only $12 I was excited because that was such a great deal, the service was extremely slow and my waiter hardly came by, I ordered an extra margarita and it never came to my table which was disappointing. The food was OK it was actually mid, I was surprised to see my check when it came to the table because it had two orders of the taco Tuesday special, I was confused because I was eating alone, I asked the waiter to speak to a manager, a manager came by after about 10 minutes and told me that it was on the menu that it was for two people, I mentioned to him I never saw a menu I just knew there was a taco Tuesday special, he was very rude and unaccommodating and did nothing to fix it, I had high hopes for this place but it turned out to be a joke I definitely won't be back and don't recommend anyone to come either. read more

This was a really nice and modern Uncle Julio's location. I have been going to the Lemmon Ave location in Dallas for years, but this was my first experience with the Frisco location. The setting is real nice along a creek with a pond. The outdoor seating overlooks the pond. While it would be tranquil, the highway goes right past it keeping it a little noisier than what would be optimum. Our service was pretty good here. We were seated immediately and served within a reasonable time. Even beyond our main server, the other servers and food runners, and manager were very nice. I am always impressed when a manager drops in just making sure everything went well. Those are the places that care. We ordered a cup of Queso, which was really good. I would put it up against any other restaurant purchased Queso I have experienced. For my main course, I ordered the Chicken Fajita Taco Salad. I was pleasantly impressed with it. I'll start with the good- I was seated promptly for dinner- however I did just sit alone at the bar since I was taking mySELF out to eat. My server/bartender was a great level of attentive and not checking on me every two seconds just because I'm right there. The food was... good... but nothing I'd go out for. The salmon was so much like chicken that I nearly forgot it was salmon. My boyfriend and I send pictures of our food to each other and HE thought it was chicken. The bar stools... whoever chose those has clearly never sat in them. They're so high in the air your legs barely have room under the bar, certainly no crossing your legs, and you tower over the bar top. And tell me why I got a napkin laid down instead of a plate - I can't help but kind of giggle at that. It's not bothersome, it's just... odd. And I can't even remember the name of the drink I got.. spicy colada maybe? That thing was horrendous. It was like drinking mulch. Maybe implement a strain in the recipe. I had 3 sips and couldn't go on. You can see this in the photo. I know this looks like a ton of negatives, but the place is lovely inside and none of this is enough to never go back. This is one of those restaurants that gets both the food and the atmosphere right, which is harder to find than it should be. We went with the Taco Bar Tuesday special, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a build-your-own taco experience. The chicken and beef were well-seasoned, juicy, and generous in portion size, and the fresh tortillas they make for you are a huge standout -- warm, soft, and clearly made with care. Sadly, we forgot to take the remaining chicken, beef, and fresh tortillas with us -- not because the food wasn't great, but because life with two kids under two is pure chaos. Honestly, that one's on us. Beyond the food, the vibe here is a big reason we keep coming back. The restaurant has tons of character, from the massive bar to the spacious patio. The flame lanterns out front are such a cool touch and really set the tone before you even walk in. It feels lively, fun, and welcoming without being overwhelming. We have lived here in Frisco for 28 years. When we have fajitas, I usually make them. However, when I have had a rough day, it is nice to have a takeout option. We had been going to another well-known Tex-Mex restaurant here as that has been all that was available. It has slowly back slid over the years and the last time we picked up, we were not at all impressed. Today we ordered from Uncle Julios and I'm so glad we did. The food was outstanding. I would have to say that the fajitas were the best that I have had in a very long time. The portions of the sides were more than double what we received from the competition and much better. I wish they had parking for pickup close to the door. Other than that, couldn't have asked for a better experience. I will never go back to that other restaurant. I order chips and salsa delivered from this location one or two times every week. The last two orders, I have had to throw in the garbage. This week it was so salty. I could barely eat it. Last week it was too sweet. Like someone had poured sugar into it. Someone needs to taste test the salsa every day. And make sure that it stands up to the Uncle Julio's recipe. It's supposed to be tangy with a lime twist and smoky flavor. And I encourage you to train your staff on how much salsa should be sent on deliveries when ordered. It is the half quart clear container. Not the small round black container as a side dish. Again, I order this one or two times a week for months and months and months. PLEASE GO TO THIS PLACE WITH CAUTION! Calling the police on a customer. Me and boyfriend when too eat yesterday Saturday, December 13th at 9:15pm. We decided to seat at the bar. I saw one of the bartenders and from a women plate and then proceeding to lick his fingers. Than me made me a margarita. He went back to eating off that lady plate. He didnt once wash his hands. At this point I wanted to make sure I have proof so began to record with my camera on my cell phone. That bartender wouldn't give me his name and started yelling at me. "Stop recording me. " I told him at that point why I was recording him.. than he said "Screw you that was my mom" I felt so passionate about speaking up and so i started talking to each staff member to make sure to inform them because nothing was being done. The manager could barely speak English my boyfriend said. I thought he could speak just fine. I want know why he isn't washing his hands and from that lady plate licking his fingers and than making drinks without washing his hands. The manger refused to tell me his first and last name. Which made things worse when the cops showed up. My boyfriend and I informed the cops of what was going on. The cops informed that I am allowed to record what's going on. The manager call the cops for what?? Than I force to sign a form saying I will never be allowed to come to Uncle Julio's or I will go to jail. I don't understand why I am the one in trouble when this a lack of sanitation here! I informed the manager that I am a licensed cosmetologist and I work with the public is very important to sanitize and keep things and body fluids away from the public. Glad to see this location finally open. We stopped by for lunch a week after it opened and we were quickly seating in a booth and the service staff was helpful grabbing our drink orders. It felt like an enchilada day and the pulled chicken enchiladas was awesome. The slaw has a great taste and we were in view of the prep station making the slaw. Amazing slicing machine. We were in the area again that evening and returned for a few drinks at the bar and some table side guacamole. We had a wonderful experience and will return in the near future. Stalwart brand in Texas ups the ante with a scratch kitchen approach and it seriously works. Amazing build out for this brand; walk in and see the chefs kitchen at work! All of the usual suspects are on the menu but made with a "fresh" twist - we have been multiple times since opening and aside from the ignorable new hiccups this place has launched well! This was my first time there. I called in an order and got there about 10 min after. I get to the bar to find out it was just sent in. No big deal, I'll sit at the bar for a bit and wait. My food comes and I go to close my tab and they changed me for the wrong tab so I let them know and they fix it. I came home to eat and saw part of my order was missing. I ordered a small queso and the chicken enchiladas. On the description, it says it includes a slaw, but it wasn't there. And then I asked for refried beans and there were no beans. The queso wasn't bad. And the enchiladas were good but the tomatillo sauce on top had too much lime. I would probably go back and try again. Finally Frisco has an Uncle Julio's. Let's clear things up - the only difference with this "scratch kitchen" and any other UJ's is the decor and style. Less Mexican style building like the others and more exposed kitchen and prep areas highlighting tortilla making and guacamole prep. Same menu! I love Uncle Julio's and have been waiting on this one. Everything tasted fresh as usual and premium. They still have the smallest salsa cups. Expect to ask for lots of refills. I love their roasted salsa versus the traditional tomato salsa. Be sure to ask for some Mexican Butter, which is great with tortillas or to mix with the rice or on a fajita. Being new, they are working out the kinks. 2024- Yelp 100 Challenge - #51 Visited Uncle Julio's one work night for happy hour and good eats, but the food was mediocre. I ordered chips & queso and never received it. The server was kind and took it off the menu because it never arrived. The food to me was typical Mexican food nothing standing out and no much flavor. We took our adult daughter for margaritas and dinner on her birthday. Made reservations and when we arrived on a Tuesday evening it was very crowded. The hostess acted like she was swamped or just wasn't prepared. We were seated on the patio right by the doorway, we ask for another table where we weren't in the walkway and she told us they had to hold them because a bigger party was coming in. We wait 15 minutes to be acknowledged and then they told us they would be back to take our order. There were only about 6 to 8 other tables on the patio occupied. We entered the restaurant in the early evening (5-ish on a Thursday night) and asked for a booth in the bar area. There were 3 booths open in the bar and the restaurant was not that busy. The guy (larger guy with dark hair and beard..wish I had gotten his name) asked us to wait over there and pointed. We were the only ones in line and the area was empty besides us. He had no reason to not just seat us where we requested. The bar, where we wished to be seated, was not busy at all, so we saw no reason for him to deny us seating there. When he returned we told him that we no longer want to dine there and that we would go to a place that would actually seat us. He just shrugged his shoulders and we left. Landon was an amazing server. Quick, helpful, patient with our obnoxious kids, and had a great personality. We've been dying to try this new location as the one in Allen has disappointed several times over the past year. But the food was exceptional, the drinks were balanced and perfect, and everything came out hot, fresh, and delicious. Will definitely be back. I have been to Uncle Julio's many times at their Dallas Tollway location over the years. Last night, we went to the new Frisco location which is really close and convenient. It was also built beautifully as well. We sat on their patio which was also beautiful and cozy complete with a fountain. Our server was excellent and super funny. He took care of us all night. The taco plates are pricey for just having 2-3 tacos. But, my husband did say they were delicious. My taco salad was HUGE. I usually get tacos or enchiladas, but I was craving a taco salad and it didn't disappoint. My daughter also enjoyed her kid's quesadillas plate. Near the end of the night, we let our server know that our daughter's birthday was coming up in a few days, so he brought out an ice cream bowl complete with birthday candle. The service was not great. It felt like it took 10 minutes before someone said hello and before either one of the two guys behind the bar acknowledged us. Also, there were dirty plates with food next to us during our entire meal. Chips were light and fluffy, I really liked the chips but the salsa however could have been better. It had a good smokey flavor, I just wish there was a little more heat. It was bland. It took a while before we were acknowledged at the bar. I asked for a frosty mug with my beer and by the time it came out my beer was warm. We had Tacos and they were pretty good. We ordered veggies instead of beans and rice and they gave us a plate of mostly onions. Overall, it was not a terrible experience and Im not sure we will be back...the service could be better and the food was blah. When our food arrived, the metal plate was so hot it burnt the butter (image included), veggies, & all of the meat on the plate.
