A group of us were in Frisco to attend a musical at one of the local high schools. Of course we were going to have dinner beforehand. Since I was the "Yelp Expert" they left it up to me to figure out where we were going to eat. My wife and I love Mi Cocina, especially their salsa and chips. Our friends hadn't been to Mi Cocina in quite a while, so we set our sights to head to Mi Cocina. There was also an extra plus, it was a cold and blustery day. Tex-Mex, to all of us, sounded perfect to warm up our tummies. My wife and I've been to many of the Mi Cocina locations, but never this one. When we walked in, I was stunned. In fact, so stunned I forgot to take photos of the decor. This location is one of beautiful locations that we've visited. The decor is so inviting and has a phenomenal staff. While we waited we all took seats on one of the sofas in the lobby by the hostess stand. The furniture is a bit low for older individuals to get up from. When our pager went off, one of the managers came by and helped each one of us get up. Now that is true customer service paying extra attention to customer's needs. The manager then asked for our menus from the hostess and led us to our table ensuring we were all comfortable. Chips and salsa were brought to our table. I immediately asked for extra salsa since I knew I was going to need it. I always go through a lot of salsas. Kasim, our attentive server, greeted us asking if this was the first visit to Mi Cocina and if we had any questions about the menu. We said none so he took our drink orders. I opted for my fav, a Mambo Taxi, one of Mi Cocina's signature drinks. I ordered the Tacos Mi Terra, beef fajita street tacos, three of them with pico, guac, beans and rice. My wife ordered two crispy beef tacos. Our friends, a chicken fajita salad and an enchilada platter. As we chatted and waited on our entrees, we munched on WAY too many chips. I depleted one bowl of salsa and moved on to the next one. All of our entrees were so delicious. I had enough chopped beef fajita to make 6 tacos instead of three. The beef was marinated and grilled to perfection. The guacamole was over the top. There was nothing on the platter I didn't enjoy. Everyone's entrees were prepared perfectly. I was at the star for happy hour with friends and we decided to go to an oldie but goodie Mi Cocina. After arriving at Mi Cocina we were quickly seated. It was packed. I think this is because of the affordability, tasty chips and salsa, great service, delicious drinks, and family environment. I love the chips and salsa and always like coming here just for that. I got the mambo taxi cocktail. I hadn't had this cocktail in several years but it was as nice as I remembered and I was glad I got it. I was really hungry and got the shrimp ceviche as my meal. I've been eating at Mi Cocina for decades and have had great experiences at locations across DFW. The Star location is consistently the worst. Every visit seems to involve slow, inattentive service. This time I sat at the bar, waited far too long (and had to ask) for a menu, had to flag down the bartender to order, and was served a disappointing margarita. The final straw was being told I couldn't substitute the guacamole and pico for a side of sautéed vegetables. I wasn't asking for anything more expensive - in fact, I was offering to trade two sides for one. The request was immediately denied without any attempt to accommodate a reasonable modification. Only after I asked for my check and decided to leave did the bartender suddenly offer to check with the manager. At some point, a pattern is a management problem, not a staff problem. There are too many good restaurants in Frisco to keep giving this location chances. read more

Always heard good things about Mi Cocina, so we stopped by for the very first time for Cinco De Mayo! We were seated and got our chips and salsa quickly! Our server, Aubrey, was truly a doll! She was patient and so accommodating. I got the famous mambo taxi and a mix of chicken and beef fajitas with corn & flour tortillas! It was all so delicious! I really enjoyed Mi Cocina's salsa as well; it was so addicting. The only downside of the visit was how slow the food and drink got out to us. I noticed it took a while for other tables to get their food too, so it was disappointing to wait when it wasn't such a full house! I was a little disappointed in the food. Maybe it was my choice of entree, but the chicken inside my enchiladas was seriously dry. The sauce on top helped a little, but it wasn't the moist, slow-cooked shredded chicken one expects in Mexican food. The flavors weren't bad, but it always hurts when a dish is too dry. Whoever is bartending at this location, the young lady in the front I think it's time for you guys to have a talk with her. I literally sat down and it took her almost 10 minutes to even acknowledge me mind you it was only four people at the bar and it was around 8:30 so it wasn't that busy. She was at the prompt computer and then she was on her phone while I was trying to be served. Then she comes and decides to take the drink order. Then it took her another 20 minutes to take my food order. This is the second time I was here and she was bartending and same thing happen. It takes her a very long time to get people's orders. The atmosphere was calm, and the space itself is definitely well put together. I ordered the poblano enchiladas, and honestly, they were just okay. Nothing really stood out. Surprisingly, the chips and salsa ended up being the highlight of the meal--super fresh and flavorful. Our waiter was alright. He seemed more focused on chatting with coworkers than checking on our table, but maybe it was just one of those slower days. All in all, I'm not sure I'd go back on my own. FIVE stars! I had such a positive experience here. Even on a Friday night, the wait was pretty short and I was able to get some food/drinks before going out at The Star. The drinks are really affordable (and HUGE??) and my food was great. Service was excellent and I found that everyone I interacted with was notably personable and pleasant! The restaurant is decorated well with a lot of cool lights and wall art. I got the Gina's, my favorite thing to order for variety, and the mambo taxi and sangria. The sangria glass is huge, larger than water glasses! The mambo taxi is very strong so I would be careful drinking more than one. I highly recommend this location and will be returning. read more

This is the first time that I have visited any of the locations and was totally surprised by the food- expecting the norm Tex Mex. I ordered the Tacos "De Pescado" which was three Grouper tacos, a yummy Salad, and Cilantro rice. Everything was so delicious. The only drawback was that the place is very modern and echoey so it was extremely loud. The music was super loud, as well, so everyone was talking over each other. I like a more woodsy, quiet place to eat my food. If I go back, I'll try the bar area which looked a little more quaint. read more

The owner comes from El Salvador and his recipes are outstanding! All of the staff is amazing and very knowledgeable! The chips are fresh and delicious and they come with a spicy salsa and a black bean dip! I could eat just them and wash it down with a delicious Paloma! You have to experience the fried plantains and dip OMG they are so good and the portions are enough to share. If a restaurant offers Flautas I always try them and these are pretty good especially when dipped in the black beans or salsa. A fun way to sample the menu is the sampling plate that comes with chicken nachos, flautas and quesadillas make this a meal or appetizer to share as it is a lot of food. Ordered to go on a Tuesday night and this place was pretty busy when we arrived. Ordered our food at 6:09 and got an email saying our order would be ready at 6:31pm. I went up to the host at 6:30 and let her know I was picking up an order and after checking on it she said that it would be a few mins, no problem as it was crowded. At 6:43 they brought our food out and we headed back to our hotel which is located less than half a mile away. When we opened our food it was cold, we were super disappointed as we had to wait longer for our food and then received cold food. The food was okay but I'm sure it would have been amazing if it was hot. Maybe this place is fabulous when dining in but definitely missed the part for takeout. Service was not that good from our waitress. We saw her to take our order and give us our check. The manager had to bring us more chips. Another waiter filled our drinks and brought our food. She was basically just walking by saying "Your food will be out soon." Or your drink will be ready shortly. Drink that was supposed to be frozen was mostly melted with sugar melted down the glass. Food took way too long and tasted like it had been under a heat lamp. I will definitely NOT be returning. read more
