Gave them another shot following a few months hiatus. I believe they have increased their prices (and maybe it's not reflected on their truck's price list). Still as delicious as I remember! When I was still working in the Financial District, I'd have Uncle Gussy's Chicken Breast platter at least once every 2 weeks. Pre-pandemic times, that's right. That's how I've gotten to know Nicko and his team over social media because I was a regular. Fast forward to the other week. My husband was near their Park Avenue truck and the thought of having their chicken platters and souvlakis were just too good so I ordered online, messaged Nicko and he said, "I got you, guys." Decent food and price is alright for what it is in midtown. Not the best cart you can get around the area but they work quick so even if the lines seem a little long, it'll go down quick. I personally like the other gyro cart on 53rd more than this one but to each their own. This spot will always be popular during lunchtime. Been a patron of this truck since I started working in the area. The pandemic has changed my work status to fully remote so I haven't been able to get my fix. Just recently I found myself in the area and walked over to Uncle Gussy's spot. I ordered 2 chicken and rice platters with tzatiki and hot sauce and brought it home to my family. The pricing for size of the gyro is great. I always get my gyro with tzatziki and the extra hot sauce. I love hot sauce and am usually disappointed by the amount of heat that's in most hot sauces, but this one packs a punch, and would suggest getting the mild hot sauce if you're not a fan of spice. I was super excited to get their pork souvlaki over fries because all their dishes never disappointed me and their pork is always juicy. When I received my order, I noticed that their packaging changed and also the pork souvlaki over fries looked different. I was not concerned until I bit into the pork. Believe in the hype, it is so good. I wish I worked closer to here but I guess we can't get all of what our heart desires! First, you know a food carts good when you come at an arbitrary time like 3:20 pm on a snowy day and there's a couple of people ahead of you. The prices are reasonable and the portions are more than suffice. The staff is also really sweet and swift (can we coin that phrase)? Like finishes making my meal in 2 minutes max kind of swift. I got the combo wrap with fries inside (because like, why not) and it did not disappoint. The fries were so good (kind of wish there was more) and there was more than enough meat in it (most important part obviously). It was $9 (sandwich typically $8 but extra $1 for the fries). Definitely stopping by again. Whenever I go out to lunch around 12-1pm (depending on my workload), I always see an insane line stretch across the block to this food truck. I was curious what all the hype is about. It's a good thing I asked a friend about it so I know how to avoid the line completely. I was recommended to preorder my food. I could always use some Greek food, and this place was also on my bookmarks list, so it was perfect. We arrived a little after 1 pm and waiting about 15 minutes (according to BF, there's always a line). We decided to go halfsies on the Hercules (yellow rice, Greek salad, pita bread, and fries) with chicken, and added a side of lamb. This was more than enough for two people, especially since they don't skimp on the meat. We were still full at dinnertime. I prefered the lamb over the chicken because the chicken has this charred flavor I don't really care for, which my BF loves, so if you like barbecued stuff, this one's for you. The more you eat the platter, the heavier it feels, and the saltier it tastes, but the Greek salad definitely helps cut that. I ordered the Hercules with Chicken (dark meat) which included a Greek lettuce salad (olives, feta cheese, tomatoes and lettuce), french fries, yellow rice topped with chicken drizzled with tzatziki and hot sauce. It came with slices of pita bread on the side. I went around 12:15 PM. The line was long but it went somewhat fast (this was on Good Friday - can't imagine how much the line maybe on a regular Friday). There is a sign on the truck that mentions you can order online for pick up. My order took a few minutes to prepare (the line itself took longer than my order - it shows how efficient they truly are!). I was a bit worry about the fries being soggy since I had to I trek back to Grand Central Terminal but was surprise at how crispy the fries was. They'll ask you at the end if you want the tzatziki/hot sauce so you can always opt out of it or maybe ask them to put it on the side (I asked them to go easy on the hot sauce and they did a good job of that!). The pita bread started to get a bit tough by the time I dig into it but I was getting full with everything else. I did wish there were some hummus with the pita bread. Chicken was well flavor. After my meal, I was pretty thirsty for the rest of the day/after. I'm hoping it was a one-off or maybe it was something else that made me thirsty. Will definitely go back and try the Pork Soulvaki. I am usually pretty leery of food trucks but Uncle Gussy's appears to be clean.
