Came here with several of my beach buddies and highly recommended by a friend who comes frequents in and around this area. What they're known for is their custard.. and I LOVE some good frozen custard! You can get a max of two samples. I got a small cup (which is actually a pretty big size cup/generous two scoops of whatever flavor you like) for under three bucks which was a great deal. I got the White Forest which I think was milk chocolate, cherries, and coconut shavings and the Cashew delight. Both flavors were packed with flavor and well created. The only thing that i was surprised with is that this, in my opinion, is NOT custard. It had the texture and taste of ice-cream. Custard is supposed to be smooth and less dense than ice-cream and the flavors I got here were not that. But it was still some of the best ice-cream that I have ever had though. Def. recommend going if you're ever in the area. read more

We didn't go for the mini-golf just the ice cream and it was really good. The portion sizes were huge and the variety was great. There were smoothies, ice cream, frozen yogurt, floats, sundaes, you name it. So many original items and flavors to try as well. My husband got a coffee float which was huge and amazing. A perfect balance between the coffee and the custard. My son tried a sundae. Since it was later he only got a small and it was so big he couldn't finish it. At first glance it's easy to write this place off as an old mini golf course with not a lot to offer. I encourage you to look beyond the facade though as even though it could use a little tlc the rates are reasonable, the course is well shaded, the plants well taken care of, and it's really a lot of fun! This is, without a doubt, the weirdest place I've ever been to. First we'll start with ambiance -- this place doesn't read as "Hatteras" to me -- the adjoining shop is dark with a heavy wooden mantle. It's not bad thing -- but it reminds me more of something you'd see in NOLA. The ice cream shop itself feels island-y, but in a Florida Keys kind of way. Lots of sparkle and glitter, which I love and my daughter loves. There are several (what I find to be) misogynistic sign for sale. The two I can remember read: "Men: No shoes, no shirts, no service. Women: No Shirt, Free Drinks" and "No Floozies in the Hot Tub (before 9:00 pm)". I mean, if this was Wings, cool. But an ice cream shop and mini-golf course (which I associate with kids)? Eh. But really, what made these seem REALLY out of place? Christian music playing on the radio, the man working was wearing a Christian tee-shirt and him giving us copies of the New Testament. My husband and I grew up with Christian background so this wasn't offensive (but I could imagine it could be for some people), but strange. The custard was good -- and my husband's sundae with gigantic, which made the price (16 bucks for a small cup of vanilla, iced latte, and brownie sundae) reasonable. I would eat the custard again with no problems. I am not saying we wouldn't go back -- but I can't see myself being loyal to this place like I am others. read more

My recent attempt to enjoy a round of miniature golf at Uncle Eddy's made me regret that I ever stopped there. There were so many mosquitoes around at 2:00pm that I was focused more on dengue fever prevention than my golf skills. Almost immediately after starting our game, my wife found three mosquitoes on her. As a result (of the mosquitoes and related childcare issues) our group of five golfers was quickly reduced to a twosome, with our request for a refund refused. During our round of golf, I continued to battle the mosquitoes, at one point noticing three mosquitoes on my body. I found the mosquito problem to be significantly worse at Uncle Eddy's than it was at our beach house just a few miles down the road. Despite this major distraction I continued to play, noticing that this small course was pretty bare bones and in rough shape. No waterfalls, windmills, or other animated obstacles. The putting greens had seen better days - worn around the edges, and so thin that the ball rolled almost as fast as it would on bare concrete. Uncle Eddy's deserves recognition for its popular frozen custard. However, the poor conditions on the course combined with an inflexible attitude toward miniature golf customers have resulted in a two-star rating from this reviewer. read more

Came here while i was staying in OBX, we didn't do the mini golf however it looked... interesting, mostly a kid thing really but i myself would not be a fan and if i did i would bring a big can of OFF for the mosquito's. We went inside... nicknacks and an assortment of things are for sale inside along with the custard. Its kinda like going into your grandmothers house who has an unhealthy fetish for things made with seashells and glitter. As for the custard, it was very good, a bit pricy , but good non the less, a huge list of flavors and combinations. Huge sizes if you really need a sugar high. One of my favorite things to do on vacation is to visit local ice cream places. I was very disappointed as I was driving around Rodanthe NC (OBX) and only found people selling store bought ice cream (Edy's and Hershey's). Until I found Uncle Eddy's Frozen Custard. I see that the place lists "homemade" custard, so I had to stop. I was not disappointed! They had a fantastic choice of flavors and options to choose from. I had the rice crispy treat custard sundae with Oreos and brownie pieces, caramel, and whipped topping (which looked homemade too). Wow! What great custard! I couldn't believe it. My sundae was $5. My kid's hurricane (like a Blizzard) was $5. But it was SO very worth it! I would spend this money again, and again on this custard. Unfortunately, I am over 40 minutes away so I won't be back this vacation. But definitely next time!!! Check them out! read more

Kids wanted to play mini golf on vacation so I thought we'd go to Uncle Eddy's; play golf, see the parrot and have ice cream. First disappointment was the parrot wasn't there - now granted that's not earth shattering but the last time we'd been there it made the place unique from all the other ice cream places. They'd moved it for some reason or another - the guy serving us wasn't exactly overpowering us with his friendliness Second disappointment was the mini golf - it was pretty tame - no novelties as such and as mentioned by an earlier reviewer the shrubs were somewhat overgrown in places - although the shade in spots was welcome. Everyone enjoyed their ice creams & frozen custard 'dreamsicles' as we sat on the gift shop couches in the A/C cooling off. I probably won't return. read more

Go early and play often. Unlimited mini-golf on a decent little course. It's simple, there are no windmills or animatronics, nor is there a giant stucco dinosaur or pirate ship, but there is FUN. We walked down from our rental one Sunday afternoon only to find they don't open until 3 on Sunday. Came back last night and it was open. Cute little shop with beachy souvenirs. Not overly crowded but it was a cool night so lots of families were playing mini golf. They offered 6-8 flavors of custard and lots of options for mix-ins, hurricanes (think Dairy Queen Blizzard), sundaes, etc. Husband and I both ordered hurricanes which were well-mixed. The custard was very good, creamy and thick. The reason for three stars: the customer service kind of stunk. No one else was ahead of us (or even waiting around us) and the cashier was pretty pushy for us to hurry up and order. I asked for descriptions of some of the flavors and was answered very gruffly, she was obviously annoyed by the question. Observing the interactions of kids and parents returning golf supplies confirmed the not-so-friendly environment. read more

I'm sitting here planning out my 2018 OBX trip and it got my thinking about Uncle Eddy's. My son and I love this place. We play some mini golf, then sit on the back of the Jeep and eat our frozen custard. We usually go in mid-to-late August and it's always relatively quiet, which I love. Uncle Eddy's is a fun little old school mini golf place. We always have fun here. And, of course, you can't play mini golf and not get some frozen custard. There are rotating flavors. I never remember to take a picture until after we have devoured it. We both usually just get a double scoop of mixed flavors and have never had any we didn't absolutely love. I got a banana milk shake last time and it was freakin' delicious. You just can't go wrong with a little island fun here. The service isn't always great. There was one lady who was kinda rude. I told her one time that she had my dream job..........working at an ice cream stand on the beach. She just rolled her eyes at me. But I'm serious. If I was working on OBX that would mean I'm near the beach and that would be awesome. I used to live oceanfront on LBI, NJ. I'd much rather go back to living there and working at 7-11 than doing what I do in Oklahoma. And I love my job in OK :) Go to Uncle Eddy's and play some golf, eat some frozen custard and enjoy the salt life. read more

Oh my goodness, the custard here IS THE BOMB. You will just never eat at another DQ again on your Outer Banks beach vacation. The little putt putt course is the perfect size for cranky adults and small children. Teenagers will want a bigger, harder course, but deal, the place is small enough that tired Moms and Dads can sit in the shade and WATCH the play all around the course instead of having to actually walk around and play. I know, I know - - sounds terrible, but family vacations are actually a lot of work and not so much vacationing when you've got young kids in tow, so dude, don't judge. read more

We've been coming to the outer banks since I was 5 years old. Through the years lots of ice cream/mini golf places have come and gone. This place has been open for years and the ice cream is great. I only gave it two stars because the service behind the counter is one of the worst I've experienced. My family went in the other night and the woman taking the orders was yelling at the other employees which wasn't a great sign. When she got to us she seemed very frustrated that we hadn't made a decision yet as if we should have the menu memorized and every question was met with rude and nasty tone and remarks. I'd hate to see people stop going here because of her and I'm hoping that management makes some changes accordingly. Unless of course she is management and in that case maybe she will realize the error in her ways. read more

This place is a one of a kind beach treat. A cozy ice cream/custard cafe and an old fashioned 18-hole miniature golf without special effects but with plenty of low tech challenges. Custard was delicious and golf made for good laughs. Was kind of wary of staff based on some of the other reviews but it turned out they were perfectly courteous and busy, especially given steady line of customers. Older mini golf and ice cream attraction. The mini golf course is not much of anything. The path didn't seem to be up kept and was kinda dirty. Bugs were everywhere. After being there I was covered with bug bites. Definitely not worth $8. It's cheap but just not worth it. The gentleman working inside was nice. Told us we could stay as long as we wanted which was sweet. But just after one game and all the bites I was ready to head back home. They also have ice cream. We wanted homemade ice cream and stumbled upon Uncle Eddys! I had homemade custard (which just has more eggs and cream than ice cream). They have soft serve custard but also homemade hard packed custard (which I had never had!). I had Almond Joy- delicious chocolate with coconut and whole almonds. My friend got a Hurricane Eddy which is like a McFlurry but with soft serve custard. Delicious! And there's mini golf if you want to make a night of it! read more

I would've given this place 4 stars, but the service was not up to par. I don't know what it is about some of the workers in the establishments on the Outer Banks, but most of them are not very friendly. They seem to be annoyed by tourist or something.
