The sound is 1' to 3' deep so tip overs (if they were to happen) are not going to happen in deep waters. The kayaks are light - my wife nor I had any issues being the main paddler - we each had a kid in helping. We saw some fish, pelicans, and many sea gulls during our two hour rental. We dropped anchor (me holding onto the kayak) and got out and walked / played in the water midway as well. See my pics, this was a great time in the calm sound side waters. They close at 5pm most days so plan accordingly.

We tried to catch a couple cobia we saw, then trolled for Spanish mackerel. We caught a couple and then spotted a school of drum and hooked into a nice 29" fish. We then trolled some more catching several nice spanish mackerel. We bottom fished some structures and caught black sea bass of various sizes with a couple keepers. The beach is clean, has easy access from the car, there are public restrooms, and it is big enough for many people to share. There are picnic tables, but you may want to bring your own seats. I'd suggest beach umbrellas also if you want any type of shade. Since it is the sound side, there are no waves and it is 1-2' deep almost everywhere. Check out my pictures for how far out we were and we could have kept going. This was a really fun day, we brought inner tubes and did a lot of floating. People were also jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and sail boarding as well. The place is big so we never felt crowded at all. A+ day.

I recommend you de-stress by going for a trip on the Miss Hatteras! She is a fishing boat that sails out of the picturesque Oden Dock in Hatteras, N.C. Our leader for the trip was Captain KP Scott, also the owner, and is supported by first mates Chase and Wolfie. Natalie Scott is also a Captain but most frequently is the one booking your trip over the phone and does all kind of other important tasks. All were friendly, helpful and professional. The half day trip is approximately six or seven miles off shore. Trigger fish and black sea bass are most commonly caught. Please be generous with these hard-working mates, 25 percent tip based on the trip cost is a reasonable gratuity. Highly recommend the Miss Hatteras!
